I have a couple of dresses and was surprised to find that the drape and sculptural effects are achieved by using unbelievably cheap and thin jersey.

If you look at it the wrong way, it makes a hole in the fabric.

Wolfpa · 16/06/2024 09:28

It says look at me, I have an ugly designer bag.

Mikki77 · 16/06/2024 09:33

Tut!

theaL · 16/06/2024 09:34

Looks a bit vulgar

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 16/06/2024 11:18

PinkRadiator · 16/06/2024 07:25

I like it very much now! Mainly because of the comments here! Youth/VW is about rebellion - and maybe you wouldn’t want the appreciation of a Mumsnet audience…

Totally agree. I was a teenager in the punk era, and lived very close to the King's Road. I grew up observing punk rebellion! But this bag is not rebellious. It's a big logo on an otherwise very ordinary bag.

Frogandfish · 16/06/2024 11:25

There's nothing beautiful about it, just a huge brand name. Not for me

QueensOfTheVolksAge · 16/06/2024 11:33

@SD1978 I need to know more about the potato sacks! Was it a conscious choice? Rejection of societal norms? Were you punks? VW's brand became, to me, too far from punk, ie it's now a mainstream brand endorsed by her eventual damehood, not very anti establishment, that, from a cultural provocateur).

It sometimes feels too far from her own tagline of "buy less, choose well, make it last".

Begsthequestion · 16/06/2024 11:40

I would want to know how much the Kenyan makers are paid out of that ridiculous price tag.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 16/06/2024 11:40

AGodawfulsmallaffair · 16/06/2024 09:16

I don’t like it, but I’m more interested in how much of the £400 is paid to the Kenyan workers.

It's notable how much blurb is about how women can send their children to school thanks to the company - but nothing about what school costs. Yes, people will benefit from having an income that means even the government complaining that some 'rogue headteachers' are charging 'as much as 200,000KS a year in Secondary', but that is around £1200.

So VW could be paying those people £30 a week to make 100 of those £400 bags (and probably less, as that was the maximum school fee in the government quote I read, not the normal).

Begsthequestion · 16/06/2024 11:45

No wonder Vivienne Westwood revenue increased from £42m to £101m between 2020 and 2022.

Thousands of rebellious, non conforming teenagers are making a few adults extremely rich.

Augustone · 16/06/2024 11:56

Hideous and screams ‘look at me’ Naff and tacky

ZadelRoad · 16/06/2024 12:07

Hideous.
It screams "I want everyone to know I bought contemporary designer so I need the most garish colour screaming the brand name so people think I'm loaded" when it's a horrible shape, horrible colour and hardly a brand you'd want to advertise...

SalviaDivinorum · 16/06/2024 13:53

Mercurial123 · 16/06/2024 09:16

I've heard the jewellery is pretty rubbish quality. I have a couple of the drunken shirts and a tshirt, and they are well made and are good quality.

Yes it was a bracelet. Put me off the brand completely.

Divebar2021 · 16/06/2024 14:24

I don’t mind it but the fact that most posters hate it makes me like it more. ( and I generally don’t care about branded luxury bags). It certainly beats a good percentage of bags I see being worn currently.

cardibach · 16/06/2024 14:42

Justcallmebebes · 14/06/2024 23:29

More money than sense? It's OK but not for nearly £400

This. It's a fancy carrier bag. No design as such. And that much for any bag would be ridiculous anyway.

Nevergoodenoughforthem · 16/06/2024 14:45

This is a bloody iconic bag. It’s 90’s inspo. It’s loud with reasons. It’s not an everyday bag. So I’d say it depends on what you’re looking for. Personally love it but I couldn’t carry it.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/06/2024 16:08

I don’t like it. Red and yellow are an awful combination. Maybe if the writing was in a different colour it might be okay (as far as okay goes)

lipglossandmascara · 16/06/2024 17:56

Not my style at all. Garish colours and obvious branding.

Unforgettablefire · 16/06/2024 18:00

No3387 · 14/06/2024 23:31

Certainly not to my taste

I despise overt branding

This.
And paying silly amounts of money to advertise for a designer is definitely screaming more money than sense.

StoatofDisarray · 16/06/2024 18:03

Ugly and try-hard!

beatrix1234 · 16/06/2024 18:06

you’re paying 400 bucks to serve as a Vivienne Westwood moving advertisement. I believe Vivienne Westwood should be paying you the 400 to wear this bag.

Purplecatshopaholic · 16/06/2024 18:17

Well there doesn’t seem to be much love for it on here, but to put the other view - I have one. Love it and use it a lot. The strap is long enough to put over your shoulder, or not, depending on your mood. And it’s huge, and I love huge bags!

Scrumbleton · 16/06/2024 18:55

It's about as bad as bad can be - V tacky (sorry) 🤢

LuluBlakey1 · 16/06/2024 19:12

It's just a shopping bag- like a carrier bag promoting M and S. It's intended to say 'I have a bit of tat with Vivienne Westwood stamped on it that I paid a ridiculous amount if money for.' It's horrible in terms of colours and there is NOTHING stylish about it.

VerityUnreasonble · 16/06/2024 20:00

Not really my style.

Also, I really dislike leather totes. Totes are big and for throwing everything in, they have thin straps, they are heavy enough without being made of something heavy.
