What is your opinion of this Vivienne Westwood bag?

DD and I have differing opinions- what do you think? What would it say about the wearer?

Not nice. Tacky. Cheap looking. Yuck

I would assume it was fake and bought from a market.

TBF it is a skill to design a bag that simultaneously says 'I am very expensive but carried by a fool, please mug me' and 'I'm a fake that cost £5 at the market'

And to then try to pass off said bag as an anti-capitalist statement as it is made by Kenyans who clearly would otherwise starve to death if you weren't so kind as to buy it, that's a stroke of genius

It is really tacky and cheap looking. I say that as someone who likes VW, hence my user name!

Unimaginative. A dope for spending money promoting someone who was also extremely unimaginative when they ‘designed’ this bag.

Looks cheap. I’ve got a nicer one with a cat and a German slogan on it that I was given at a trade show to put my bumf in (not leather). I’ll be sad when it wears out, its very similar to one Molly Goddard did a few years ago.

Vivienne Westwood lost me when she started being so hypocritical with her environmental stuff.

If you need to ask here you’re obviously a bit insecure. If you have £400 to waste on a bag that tasteless.
I have never got the obvious branding. Get a bag for £1 from Tk Maxx and put the rest towards something that will last a bit longer. Teenagers are a dream for marketing especially on social media.

Honestly, it’s no worse than the LV neverfull bag. Expensive and a bit tacky.

If your teenager wants a big name bag, round here they (and MN!) seem to like the Longchamp le pliage. I think it looks a bit grannyish. But at least it’s £300 cheaper.

Edit - to add if it’s for your dd then of course you’re going to have differing opinions. My dd has an expensive tote for school

I wouldn't use it myself but it is rather fun.

OP (the mum) doesn’t like it. Her DD does.

I'm not a bag person so no idea if it's considered good or not by stylish people. It looks fine to me.

What does it say about the wearer?

Same as any product with the designer name as the main feature - it says the person wants the name visible for a reason that matters to them. They want to be associated with the brand. Maybe they just love it so much they want to shout it out, maybe they want people to know they buy that brand, or see it as a status symbol, or indicator of wealth, or indicator of style or fashion sense , all sorts of possible reasons.

I had a Vivienne Westwood bag and it kept falling off my shoulder. It was very annoying. I gave it to my DD who loved it, used it once and it fell off her shoulders too so I sold it.

I’ve just bought a different Vivienne Westwood tote. It’s a gift, I like it - but I do think it’s overpriced.

Weirdly my first thought was the Post Office as the same colours they used to use for their signs. I think it would look good with an all black outfit.

Look - it’s not my style, but I can see it looking great.
