I hate it! AIBU?

Is this as bad as I think it is?

I was told they would be super-subtle baby lights. I explained that long hospital admissions mean that I can't get to the hairdressers often so I wanted to avoid anything that might leave visible regrowth.

I am so upset. I hate the big tiger-like stripes.

I also booked in for a cut and colour. The hairdresser told me (once the colour was on) that a) she couldn't do short cuts but I could book in with someone more senior at additional cost, and b) she didn't have any time left to do the cut.

So 3 hours at the hairdressers, no cut, and a colour I hate.

I am known for getting over emotional about the hairdressers so AIBU?
I'll pay to sort it out but I hate it.

not good, tbh - possibly do your hair in a different way

Spirallingdownwards · 12/06/2024 17:31

I would complain, ask for a refund and/or get the salon to get someone more senior to sort it out.

Did you complain at the time?

PickAChew · 12/06/2024 17:31

I often come to these threads and think it's not that bad but that red is awful, I'm afraid. It doesn't blend with your natural colour at all. I'm not surprised you're disappointed.

ladybee2 · 12/06/2024 17:32

Oh dear,
It does look rather patchy, with quite strange colours together.
Sorry OP

Apileofballyhoo · 12/06/2024 17:32

It looks like an unsuccessful home dye.

Catchlock · 12/06/2024 17:34

Oh heavens. I'd go back to the manager and tell them you're not happy. The colours are really mismatched and the sections look really thick.
Sorry op. You're not being unnecessarily emotional here.

Mrcrabsleg · 12/06/2024 17:35

I think this is where you have to get a bit assertive and go back and ask them what they’re going to do to rectify it. The hairdresser has done a poor job and any reputable salon would see that, sort it out, and throw a cut in for free!

EatCrow · 12/06/2024 17:38

Explain you want it rectifying before you leave an online review.

Sunriseatsix · 12/06/2024 17:41

I'm so glad I'm not overreacting. I'm genuinely devastated. I know some would like it but it really is exactly what I asked not to have.

I was too upset at the time so just paid and left. I'd wanted a cut and been told I couldn't have one and I was just so sore from sitting for so long (I'm a wheelchair user so can't sit for long periods).

I have sent an email to the salon. I feel so awful about complaining but I also feel awful about the colour. I'm meant to be out tonight but I'm feeling too upset to go. I genuinely hate it.

Sorry. Message above is unclear. I'd booked (and paid for) a cut so to leave without, and with this colour, has really upset me. I hate the idea of going back but I'm also so embarrassed to be seen like this.

It's really bad. It's striped and not at all subtle. I'd be complaining to the hairdresser and her manager if she has one. It's nothing like what you wanted by your description

Changingplace · 12/06/2024 18:02

That’s awful that they didn’t even do your cut either :( Sorry OP I always want to look for the positive on these kind of threads and I don’t want to make you feel worse but they really haven’t done a good job and you’re right to be upset and complain about the service.

Hope they can fix it for you x

neilyoungismyhero · 12/06/2024 18:04

It's not great to be honest but the entire service was dreadful. No cut because she wasn't capable then having to rebook with someone senior!! and having to pay more money too. Pretty dreadful all round. I get maybe some hair dressers specialise in colours/cuts but you weren't advised of this and this looks like the work experience colleague's work.
I wouldn't let it spoil your night out though..have a rant about it and crack on with your friends.

Billyandharry · 12/06/2024 18:11

I actually really like it! But it's irrelevant if it's not what you asked for and the fact that she didn't cut it is odd. Hairdressers never used to be so poncy/bad at time keeping/ up their own arses did they?

PrincessHoneysuckle · 12/06/2024 18:33

Looks a bit geri halliwell ginger spice

TheOGCCL · 12/06/2024 18:40

Definitely not being unreasonable, this is very poor. It's so distressing when you feel your hair doesn't look it's best, we have all been there. They could maybe put on an overall plain colour to fix it? But not sure I'd trust this place.

DailyEnergyCrisis · 12/06/2024 18:43

You are absolutely 100% due a full refund for that- and they should also offer to correct it free of charge so you’re at least back to where you started.

BESTAUNTB · 12/06/2024 18:45

It looks like a few of my friends’ hair in the 1990s. With that era being in fashion, I don’t think it looks awful, just a very amateurish attempt, like a home dye. But the point is that it is not what you asked for. If you’d wanted Ginger Spice locks, you’d have said so I’m sure.

Ineedaholidayyyy · 12/06/2024 18:46

It's not subtle and not what was asked for, I would be upset with this and complain . Was this a new hairdresser OP, she doesn't sound very good. Terrible colour application and then she can't cut you hair, the service is very poor. I really hope you can go back and get it resolved.

Sunriseatsix · 12/06/2024 18:56

I did discuss the colours, to be fair, and I asked for something like a strawberry blonde. This is my natural colour (photo taken this morning). I just wanted a bit of a lift. A slight push towards ginger/copper in a really subtle way.

I suppose the main issue from my perspective is the big stripes. It's hardly natural looking and I think the regrowth will be an issue.

I just hope it's not too uncomfortable or awkward tomorrow. I'll go somewhere else for the cut after all this!

I hate it! AIBU?

DailyEnergyCrisis · 12/06/2024 19:02

So hard to trust them to correct it. Ask for their most senior stylist to do it, take a friend for moral support and maybe suggest a whole head of subtle highlights with the rest coloured with a warm-ish all over colour to help blend. Good luck 🤞

Sunriseatsix · 12/06/2024 19:03

I look like my cat! Except her colours blend better.

Your natural colour is much nicer. Like another poster said how they've done it is very dated.

I know how difficult it is to complain but they really shouldn't have not done the cut and left you with hair the opposite of what you wanted.

scrapsontheside · 13/06/2024 10:01

This is the second thread about poor highlights, the other person's hairdressers couldn't see the problem either , maybe because 90s fashion is popular maybe they are thinking 90s highlights (obvious chunky etc) are what ppl want? ( I'm not defending the hairdresser)
It was wrong of them to get you in the chair and start , then tell you they couldn't cut it! I'm glad you've emailed them, I hope you get a resolution and your money back as it's nothing like what you wanted ( I once left the hairdresser's with the wonkiest haircut ever, smiled at my reflection , paid left then cried! Rang the next day to be sorted out by someone else, turned up sat in chair new hairdresser, whilst yesterday's hairdresser stood beside me telling me off for not sitting straight or crossing my legs!!!)

Back21970 · 13/06/2024 10:15

Ginger Spice in the 90’s (done at home)sums it up perfectly - you are not overreacting.

Can I ask what you paid?

I am not surprised you are disappointed - and the having to rebook for a cut thing is ridiculous.

Hope you get it resolved - colour probably just needs a few tweaks by someone who understands what you looking for.
