I hate it! AIBU?

Is this as bad as I think it is?

I was told they would be super-subtle baby lights. I explained that long hospital admissions mean that I can't get to the hairdressers often so I wanted to avoid anything that might leave visible regrowth.

I am so upset. I hate the big tiger-like stripes.

I also booked in for a cut and colour. The hairdresser told me (once the colour was on) that a) she couldn't do short cuts but I could book in with someone more senior at additional cost, and b) she didn't have any time left to do the cut.

So 3 hours at the hairdressers, no cut, and a colour I hate.

I am known for getting over emotional about the hairdressers so AIBU?
I'll pay to sort it out but I hate it.

This is awful, I'm a strawberry blonde and what you asked for regarding subtle baby lights would have been lovely and not as obvious with regrowth. Was it a trainee stylist? Surely a qualified stylist can cut any length of hair! And 3 hours for what you have is terrible. I hope you get a resolution, a full refund and/or your hair correctly done by a fully qualified stylist.
Was this salon recommended?

@Sunriseatsix
What sort of hairdresser can't do short cuts?
It doesn't look like she can do colour either, or listen to what customers want.

This salon is a colour specialist (so their sign outside says). She wasn't a trainee - graduate stylist - but they were offering 20% off her prices because she is new to the salon.

Complain. And hit their social media if they don't fix it.

NTmumAutisticteenagemeltdowns · 13/06/2024 13:34

I get why you are unhappy, I would be too. I remember feeling similar after a really bad cut, and I found it really useful when a lovely housemate confirmed what I knew.

I phoned up, calmly said I was unhappy and asked calmly to come in and speak to the manager. They agreed, the manager agreed and I got a free cut on the spot (which was amazing!) and a free cut 8 weeks later.

I find it helpful to know in advance what I want, in my case I wanted someone more senior to sort it out.

Good luck, this is them not you xx

Frasers · 13/06/2024 13:38

generally I think these threads it usually looks fine, but op, I’m sorry, it hasn’t come out well at all . I hope they remedy it and cut it as agreed.

AstonMartha · 13/06/2024 13:41

Not helpful but I love your natural colour.

Kick up at stink.

That sounds similar to BOGOF for eye operations 😉

i’d avoid anything with a discount if the impact is on face/hair 😏

SweetGingerTea · 13/06/2024 13:43

It is shockingly poor, even for a junior member of staff. Complain and get it redone, it will need a lot to get that red out

Not helpful but this is why I will never let junior staff do my hair

Sunriseatsix · 13/06/2024 14:02

It is indeed my fault for looking to save money. Never again! In fact, I wish I'd never fiddled. I should have just stuck with my natural colour.

I paid £80, including the 20% junior discount. I got a rough dry but not a styling or anything.

I emailed the salon last night and I am currently in the chair (again!) while the deputy manager does her best. I'll send after photos later!

Thanks so much for making me not feel like I was just overreacting. I don't like change so never know how justified my reactions are.

Well done on getting them to sort this out.

I know everyone needs a chance but this is why I would never book a junior or someone other than the director/owner.

I hope that they are not charging you for this op.

familyissues12345 · 13/06/2024 14:41

Well done for getting this sorted, I'd find it so hard to be brave enough to complain (which is rubbish!)

Looking forward to seeing your updated pic!

paisley256 · 13/06/2024 14:59

Really hope you're happy later on today.

Ginkypig · 13/06/2024 15:32

Fingers crossed for you! Well done on standing up for yourself

Sunriseatsix · 13/06/2024 15:41

I haven't slept at all (well, 5-7am!) as I was so worried about how it would be. I thought the salon would fall silent as I walked in, with everyone knowing I had complained!

In fact it was fine! The girl who did it was there but I think she was as embarrassed as I was so we didn't really see each other.

It's much better. Frankly, I wish I hadn't ever touched my hair. When I look at the before photos, it's a perfectly good colour! I've still got stripes but they're much more subtle.

They didn't charge me. I still need time get the haircut! I've learned not to look to fix what is fine and not to try and save money when it comes to your hair. It's going to take a while to grow even this out but it is a lot better. Thanks for handholding.

That's much improved,@Sunriseatsix, and red is so hard to keep in hair it will fade quickly. And when you get it cut more of the colour will be gone.

Did you mean to include your face in one of your pictures?

You have a very nice profile, you look like Maxine Peake.

SkaneTos · 13/06/2024 15:57

Good that you got it sorted out!
I think it looks good now.
Your hair has a lovely texture.

NippyCrab · 13/06/2024 16:00

@Sunriseatsix that looks so much better, I love your curls too. Do you feel better? I've had so many awful hair mishaps and it does impact you in a huge way. My worst was using henna in lockdown 😂 that took a long time to fix.

Oh heck! I didn't! How do I get it taken down? Whoops!

And thank you for the compliment. Never thought about my profile before, except to bemoan the sagging chin!

Thank you.

Yes, definitely. Partly I feel better because the hair is better (although still striped from above, and as I'm in a wheelchair, everyone will see that..) and partly because complaining and going back wasn't as awful as I feared.
I truly haven't slept with worry. Stupid.

OP posts:

Striped from above but given what she was working with, I think she's done really well. Phew!

It's not stupid at all to not have slept, you will be shattered now though, have a snooze with your kitty. X

PersisFord · 13/06/2024 16:56

This is probably terrible advice....but I had a horrible red hair dye disaster and I got a lemon shampoo bar from lush and used that every day and it faded REALLY quickly!

PersisFord · 13/06/2024 16:56

Although I think it's really pretty now, she's done an amazing rescue job!
