I'm meeting friends I haven't seen in years.
Going for food and cocktails
I know it's boring and black and safe but I just don't go out out a lot
I don't like dresses and it's forecast rain this weekend anyway.
Does this look okay?
Or do I need to ditch the jeans and look for some trousers ?(didn't really want to spend any money on clothes )so did a wardrobe raid

Does this outfit look okay?

With your figure you could try barrel leg jeans, if you don't want to go wide. Zara perhaps.

Fridgetapas · 05/06/2024 11:01

Awww fair enough! To be fair I live in Bristol which is super casual and everyone wears trainers out! I actually think your original top, those trousers and your gazelles is a great look but get you might not feel comfortable if your girls are all more dressed up!

HowDoTheyManageAtAll · 05/06/2024 11:07

I'd wear the jeans but with a nice blouse instead of a black jumper

Wishimaywishimight · 05/06/2024 11:12

angieputthekettleokay · 05/06/2024 10:47

I look bloody awful in wide leg
Just tried a pair on in H&M and I look ridiculous 🤣

I think anyone would look ridiculous in those trousers 😅

angieputthekettleokay · 05/06/2024 11:20

Thanks so much everyone for your help
I'm fine with day clothes
Even going for a meal clothes
But a girly day with dressy girls I'm useless
I'm probably overthinking
Is anyone here from Durham ?
That's where we are going
Meeting in the champagne bar and then El pincho Mediterranean bar for tapas

You’ve said you don’t like dresses, but something like this would look fantastic with some sharp, pointy boots:

I’m coming around to them 😂 they look quite nice with a little black top just like the OP has!

angieputthekettleokay · 05/06/2024 11:37

Oh they look nice on her ha ha

OP posts:
innerdesign · 05/06/2024 11:46

They look just as nice on you OP, it's just a different angle and the fact you're used to seeing yourself in slim silhouettes.

I don't know Durham, but I can imagine the dress codes for those sorts of places. I think you can get away with being more casual than pre-covid though. What about an oversized shirt, e.g. this, with the first pair of jeans, shirt either buttoned and tucked in (look up bra tucks etc) so it doesn't look toooo baggy, or worn like the model does, open and over a fitted black top. I'd also roll the sleeves up to 3/4/elbow length so it doesn't swamp you.

angieputthekettleokay · 05/06/2024 12:05

@innerdesign weirdly I already own that shirt ha ha
I normally wear it casual with a vest underneath
Love how it looks

Isometimeswonder · 05/06/2024 13:13

Do you have any metallic sandals? Thunk it would elevate the black. Or even some brights?

TheOriginalFrench · 05/06/2024 13:35

Like Olivia Newton John in Grease, @Isometimeswonder?

🤔

Anyone would look bloody awful in those. I think your original outfit is really dated and boring, the tucked-in top is a big no.

angieputthekettleokay · 05/06/2024 13:36

The top is a bodysuit not a top

OP posts:
angieputthekettleokay · 05/06/2024 13:37

I've changed the whole outfit now
I'm going to wear the stripe crop top I bought today with either the light blue mom jeans or I've ordered some light blue slightly wide leg jeans

OP posts:
Workawayxx · 05/06/2024 13:43

I think the outfit looks lovely and you have a great figure. I'd either put the light blue jeans with the black one shoulder body or the black jeans with the stripe top. I also think the wide leg trousers look lovely on you! It does just take a while to get used to the wider look of them after skinnies/slim leg jeans. I like quite flowing wide leg trousers so they still cling a bit when you move and don't make me feel too much bigger.

LakeTiticaca · 05/06/2024 13:49

A bright jacket and handbag would complete the look. Love the sandals
I remember the days when I could get into clothes like that 😩

CactusMactus · 05/06/2024 13:54

Your friend isn't meeting you to judge your outfit!
You look great.. have fun... and an extra cocktail

MorrisZapp · 05/06/2024 13:57

STOP TRYING TO MAKE WIDE LEG TROUSERS UBIQUITOUS BECAUSE OF 'DATED'

MorrisZapp · 05/06/2024 14:01

I absolutely love the original outfit, mainly because that's exactly what I wish I looked like in jeans! I'd add a belt but with that waist you can wear what you please. Don't swamp that figure in 'wide leg' because fashion says so. Women know instinctively what shows their figure at it's best and only a few of us will find that wide trousers and trainers are it.

By a few I mean none.

STOP SHOUTING AT US.

I don't think anyone has said she must wear wide leg trousers, but the tight from head to toe look isn't it any more. A looser top and the slim jeans are fine, much more 'CURRENT'. It took me a while to come round to the wider legs (early 30s, skinnies have been in since I was mid-teens), but now I can see they look good on a lot of people. They can still show off your figure, look at the post by @Fridgetapas . You just have to style them properly and show some skin at your thinnest parts to balance them.

I think this will be better and more summery.

MorrisZapp · 05/06/2024 14:30

Sorry for the shouting. If trousers are so hard to wear that they require 'styling' not to look weird/unflattering/comical then fashion can absolutely hop it in my opinion.

Insta is awash with wide legs, but I'm seeing the same mix of styles in real life, across all age groups. Wide leg trousers look good on a very particular body shape, which sadly I don't have. I dare say the op could absolutely rock it but why should she if like so many women she feels better in a slim silhouette.

I do wear loose fit summer trousers for ease and comfort, I'm not morally against them. But on a night out, most women do want to look their best.

Pantaloons99 · 05/06/2024 14:32

Looks great. Definitely just add a nice belt with bag
