Best solution for thigh rub on holiday

I’m going to Greece in August so it will be really hot. I have lots of lovely dresses I want to wear but have the age old problem of thigh rub. Normally in the UK I will wear cycling shorts underneath but even when it’s 30 odd degrees here, they make me feel really hot and uncomfortable so I can’t imagine it’ll be much better abroad! It’s something about being covered around mid section and then with the dress over the top just makes me so hot. I want to be cool and flowy 😂

Seems the options are:

  • using a non-shorts solution like a cream designed for thigh rub. I’ve never used them before so don’t want to rely on them. Has anyone used anything like that?
  • shorts that are designed to cool you down? I’ve seen loads of adverts for shorts designed for this that are meant to cool you down a couple of degrees. These are kind of expensive though.

Any recommendations, please let me know! Don’t want to be miserable and sore on holiday, or really hot.

Snag tights. I wear them on holiday all the time under dresses and they do keep you cooler.

would never use anything else

Sloggi long line knickers. They are cotton. Available on Amazon. The snag ones are tights material so too hot and for me cycling shorts also need pants under them so two layers. The sloggis are the perfect solution

I've got snag chub rub shorts, they're basically short tights with a gusset, you wear them without anything under. Not that pretty but they work.

Chub rub creams do work. I think I used lamisil a bit. It also helps to take loads of pants so you can change if they get sweaty.

I find Body Glide works really well.

Stick deodorant works for me

DisplayPurposesOnly · 02/06/2024 10:36

Ditto Bodyglide

Mitchum roll on deodorant applied to prone areas

Marks and Spencer’s do anti chafe shorts, 2 pairs for £20. I’ve worn them in the summer under dresses for a few years, they don’t ride up, and keep me cool. They come in different skin tone colours.

Really helpful, thanks. Hadn’t thought of that.

Amazingly, even if you’re slim, some thighs still rub together. At my slimmest, size 8, they still did. I’ve always had bigger legs. Not really something I can help but thanks for making me feel a bit shit.

Rub roll on antiperspirant on your inner thighs. Always works for me.

sonjadog · 02/06/2024 10:52

The Snag ones are too hot for me except for on the cooler summer days. Proper cycling shorts the same (also a bit bulky). I get pure cotton chub rub shorts and they are fine whatever the heat. I don't live in the UK so I am afraid I don't have a make to suggest, but I am sure they are sold somewhere in the UK, and I recommend trying them out.

Wow, how helpful.

I've been underweight, starving myself and obsessively doing cardio in the past - my thighs still rubbed.

SpicyNoodleSoup · 02/06/2024 10:56

I just cut up an old pair of tights so that they were the right length. Worked a treat, nice and airy but stopped the rub.

Soontobe60 · 02/06/2024 11:03

I second the M+S anti chafing shorts. Ive worn these in 35 degree heat under dresses and skirts and they did the trick. I find that wearing them over cotton knickers helps with preventing a sweaty tum! I also wear them as pyjama bottoms in summer as my thighs also stick together when I’m asleep!!

Also, look for thin cotton shorts, they help prevent chub rub too. The high waisted paper bag style are great!

Why would that make you feel shit? Come on, 99% of people with thigh rub are overweight. If your asking for a solution it's the obvious answer, why get offended?

muckymayhem · 02/06/2024 11:09

Body glide. Get a small one to keep in your handbag / pocket in case you need a top up but it works as well as anti chub rub shorts/pants imo and less sweaty.

Twilightstarbright · 02/06/2024 11:11

Anti chafing bands- I got them in John Lewis. Like the shorts but just bands on my thighs.

Movinghouseatlast · 02/06/2024 11:14

Big Bloomers Company shorts are brilliant. They are very lightweight, you dont know you're wearing them. The Snag ones are just tights, which I found too tight, too hot and too uncomfortable. I don't get why anyone would recommend them actually, but people must like them. They were a total waste of money for me.

I tried anti chafe creams and they didn't work.

Big Bloomers Company all the way!

Spinet · 02/06/2024 11:14

I'm enormous and spray on mitchum does the trick for me. I have snag shorts etc but like you they make me hot!

Advice to lose weight for a holiday in 2 months is useless as you know @Roosits and giving it makes you look like you're deliberately being a dick, so if you're not I suggest you don't double down on it.

Because there was absolutely no need to suggest that? Besides the fact you’ve no idea what size I am, any decent person would realise that if someone was overweight, suggesting they lose weight is going to tap into all the complex feelings and reasons for being overweight to begin with. But you keep doing you, claiming innocence about why someone is upset with something needlessly shit that you’ve said.

I have the M&S shorts and they are honestly not hot at all. I also use liquid talc which you can get in the baby section in supermarkets- mine is from Asda. Fantastic at preventing rubbing and cheap as chips.

She is obviously not going to lose enough weight to make a big difference by August, so your comment is just a little pop at the OP to make her feel a bit shit. Other posters see that clearly, no point you trying to be wide eyed and innocent about it.

Soberfutures · 02/06/2024 11:29

I use this and love it. Lanacane chafing gel. Asda pharmacy should also stock it. Some times it's behind the counter/in cupboard
