Fat girl summer - let's slay 💅

So, for those of us who are chunky yet funky, what's the plan ladies?

Shall we give no fucks and wear nice comfy summery clothes or do we worry about keeping every inch of us covered head to toe in black until we sweat so hard we melt? What's the plan?

Currently a size 20/22 myself, unlikely to get down to a magical size 14 by July so I'm looking at the nice comfy looking linen pants, few maxi dresses, shorts because I'm a wee chubby pale rebel and to really go wild a jumpsuit or two.

Simply be has some lovely things at the moment including shoes, asos curve is looking alright and vinted is my best pal.

I'm 35 for a few more months and don't want to have another summer in my 30s hating my body, so this year I'm going to embrace it. Anyone with me?

Where does the covering whole body in black during a hot summer comes from?

aibutohavethisusername · 18/05/2024 17:42

I wear the Underpops by Popsy Clothing, not tried the Snags yet.

So, I start this thread determined to be somewhat confident and make positive changes for my daughter and today at an event someone took the worst picture ever of me and I feel horrific, but, there is a but here, I did have lovely outfit on 😂
I'd have not felt any nicer in the picture dressed like a sweaty black Leggings mess.

So erm, silver linings and all that.

Also, who the fucking fuck angles a camera phone under someone's chin?

Someone who could use a decent kick in the fanny, that is who, if you ask me 😂

Angles are everything @Lwrenn 😂😂😂

I have these shorts in blue and white, they are really useful as the waistband is shirred, no muffin top and really comfortable

icicleboutique.co.uk/collections/shorts/products/briony-shorts-7-colours

I like a few things on there @Rina66 - I might order a top and one of the co-ord sets.

Over the last couple of years I have been buying these dresses - I now have 4!!

I am a 20/22 with G cup and I love love love that I don't have to wear a bra with these. They look great with a top or cardigan over the top for work & they are great for dancing & the beach too. I love just pulling a dress and underpants on in the morning & I'm ready for anything!

My black one is 2 years old now and still looks absolutely super duper.

also I have 2 of these (green & black) and get comments every time I wear them.
https://thisisunfolded.com/products/sam-shirred-puff-sleeve-dress-black

all these dresses have POCKETS! and no polyester to be seen

You really dint need to wear a bra??
im a G cup too and have never ever seen a dress where I could skip the bra.

I might buy that dress just for that!!

Fellow fatty here. Finally realising, at 46, that I may be fat, but I'm not ugly. And i deserve to feel.happy and confident in the clothes I like.

Summer faves are linen style pants, a couple of good throw on dresses.that I can wear wherever. This year I'm making an effort to find some.tsthirts I like, I love shirts tucked into my pants, but struggle with t-shirts. I'm a fan of black dresses and large shades, a red lip and a large tote. Love to pretend I'm a chic french lady. Who just happens to be short, fat and blonde. But who cares?

I'm also going for shorts this year, I just need.to decidee which, and find a good self tan...

@Seaside3 Just felt the need to pop on and say how much I loved your post and the first paragraph specifically. I am coming to that realisation too.. I have even today brought some linen dresses from H&M and I'm in love with them..
if you find some good shirts lease share them!

Love this thread!

A couple of recommendations from me… Taking Shape I discovered on another S&B thread. Australian, brilliant summer wear. Size down at least once as it comes up large. Expensive, but I’ve not paid full price for anything yet.

Second, Peachy Pear Clothing on Facebook if you are of the boho/hippy persuasion.

Does anyone else know of any boho/hippy type plus size brands? So much of it is “one size” that definitely does NOT fit all! It’s how I used to dress and in my new “I’m 40 and don’t care what you think” persona I want to go back to it!

The one thing I can’t get over is my big…pouch. Lower belly? Don’t know what it’s called. The result of two c sections and many pizzas. But it sticks out so much in any trousers and I just can’t bring myself to tuck tops in. Which is ridiculous because I don’t judge other women the same shape! I’d love to do jeans, vest top, floaty kimono thing, but that’s what’s stopping me.

Did you watch mafs Australia this year? There was a woman named Andrea who had the most beautiful style and even though she is slim, I felt her style could have lent its self to any size 4 to 40, it just had such an ethereal vibe. She had fabulous hair also!

I'll get my dp to let me have a mooch on the page you suggested.
I've dressed in black Leggings and hoodies for so long and I'm just so ready to enjoy clothes again and not be shy!

I didn’t but I will look her up!

BollockstoThis1 · 19/05/2024 06:49

Also fat (size 22-24), tall (5’11) old (nearly 60) and been trying fo embrace my grey hair. I feel like a hot fat sweaty snowman. I went out today in a skirt and T shirt and I was melting and felt so hot and irritated. I can’t do shorts as my knees are awful, I also have horrible blue/green veins and chinky calves. I would love to wear something cool, wafty and comfortable that doesn’t make me feel any bigger, hotter or sweatier. Any suggestions. I am young and fun at heart honest or would be if I wasn’t so hot.

ReindeerPoop · 19/05/2024 09:12

I’m a 22 and have a overhanging apron belly so really struggle with finding tops that are long enough, and definitely couldn’t tuck in!

Tend to live in smock tops and leggings, but obviously leggings aren’t the best for summer. Maxi dresses are good but sometimes not practical

“Jess on the plus size” on insta is fab for inspiration

cremebrulait · 19/05/2024 09:31

I should change my name to Peri-brulait. It's taking every ounce of self-control not to start ranting about that peri thing! I have a few problems I would love help with in part because I left the UK for 5 years - I'm struggling to know where to shop anymore. I'm an apple, low waist/short torso - size varies vastly from some trousers 16/18 to some tops 20/22. I HATE SHOPPING. I love long flowy tops that hide the muffin-top issue I'm working on. And I otherwise live in sweaty betty leggings. They fit and last better than anything else so I see them as an investment - half of them don't fit because I've gained since taking the oestrogen!!! (again trying not to rant about peri!). My other problem is that my thighs get chaffed easily and I can't be bare and walk much. Ideas?

Hello fellow fatties!!

this thread is exactly what i need

this year I’ve been going for jumpsuits.

and, can I suggest / remind you all: chub rub / cycling shorts are a must!!!

mumsicorn · 19/05/2024 09:54

Loving this thread!
I'm a fellow size 20 in my late 30's just trying to look summery and pretty.
I found some great floaty dresses in "Yours" and bought one in every colour. I wear snag pants under cos CHAFE 🔥 and wear trainers or sandals with them.

I dont feel 100% amazing and they hang on my butt like a tent but uknow what, they make me feel feminine and keep me cool and comfortable in the heat.
