Zara looks so pretty and her outfit is lovely.
Beatrice's dress is beautiful.

I think that's the nicest I've ever seen Zara. That style really suits her

@justasking111 your dress is so pretty!

Did you enjoy it? Can I please ask how the day itself works? Is the whole event outside? Is there food and refreshments? What is the toilet situation? Is there lots of security?

I've always wondered!

I have been to a Garden Party, if I recall we arrived early afternoon. We chose to go in through a back gate rather than the main gate.

We walked through the gardens and there were seats scattered around. The whole event was outside, except for the Royal Tea Tents.

The Royal Party came out at a set time and we stood for the National
Anthem. There is a roped off lane down the garden which ended in a semi circle facing the Royal Tea Tents. Those in the know got plastic chairs and sat round the semi circle line to get the best view.

Along one side of the gardens there was a large marquee which served sandwiches, tea, coffee cakes and ice creams etc. There were tables and chairs outside.

There were toilets, they were to one side behind mature beds so they were discrete. I think they are also used when BP is open to visitors.

When we left we walked out the front of BP and took photos in the courtyard - I was advised to do it this way as it was much quieter when leaving.

Our charity were invited, I declined because of childcare. Everyone who went said that it was so well organised. They scarcely were aware of the move along and security aspect. They all had a brilliant day.

LadyEloise1 · 22/05/2024 16:10

I wonder did Zara, Bea and Eugenie have the same make up artist ?
Both Beatrice and Eugenie's make up are very very similar.

KillingMeDeftIy · 22/05/2024 16:13

I like Mary’s printed skirt. I think it works much better than Sophie’s dress the other day.

Runningupthecurtains · 22/05/2024 17:07

Sorry for not posting sooner last night was hectic getting home, collecting DC etc and I've just finished work.
You have to take your entry ticket and two forms of ID (one photo, one address). The gates open at 3, we had planned to use the back gate but were passing the main gate at about 2.30 so decided to go in that way. At that time they were already checking people in so we joined the queue. Once they had checked ID we were held in a queue until they opened the garden gate at 3. There was a massive tea tent for the majority and a royal tea tent that selected invitees could access.
These were seats scattered about (but not enough for 8000 people) but as it was tipping down they were soaked so almost no one sat down.
At 4 the band played the national anthem and the royals came out and headed to the royal tea tent.
Royal guards aka Beefeaters formed a cordon. If you were quick/switched on you could head over to the edge of this and after tea the royals wondered about chatting to people. But were lurking deep in the tea tent at the time as DH had just go soaked and was trying to dry off a bit so everyone was lined about 5 people deep so we couldn't see a thing. We had a stroll round the garden/lake, chatted to other guests, spoke a member of one of the military bands who had been on a training course with DH last year and decided to call it quits when we bumped into some DH knows who was looking after Bea and Eugenie and he was trying to introduce us but the princesses kept heading in the opposite direction to the one he was expecting to he didn't get the chance. (Which probably isn't a bad thing as DH has a tendency to protocol cockups). We left at about 5.15 as did loads of other people.
I imagine it's very different on a dry day when the view isn't blocked by a million umbrellas!

I agree - it's lovely and I like the blouse and shoes which pick up the colours.

Thanks, @Runningupthecurtains - that sounds really interesting, shame about the rain, but I'm sure it's still been an experience!

I enjoyed it and loved looking at the vast array of outfits. Even on the train into London we were playing 'I bet they are going to the same place as us' when people got on in hats etc.

A couple of strangers complimented me on my outfit/umbrella choice and I think I saw my umbrella in the distance on one of the photos of William but I can't find it now.

Maireas · 22/05/2024 17:53

I also like the menu - it all looks so delicious!

It was - I ate far too much cake because I wanted to try it all!

FatLadySang · 22/05/2024 18:33

Looks lovely but is that a typo on the menu? Should it be chalk stream not chalk steam?

I thought that - in fact I read it as stream and only noticed when looking at the photos that it said steam.

Even though they were tiny I didn't eat 8 pieces of cake. DH and I shared some.🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰

I agree it’s much better than Sophie’s, but I’m still getting wolf fleece vibes

I think the menu for the garden party looks yummy too

Papergirl1968 · 22/05/2024 19:48

Very interesting berating about the garden party. Shame about the weather.
I like Mary’s outfit.
And here is Max continuing her visit to the Philippines. I don’t dislike her outfit although I’m not generally keen on peplums but it looks odd in the photos because she’s standing in front of something white.

gluenotsoup · 22/05/2024 20:06

The menu looks delicious, I would have tried everything and wished I’d worn an elastic waistband.
I really like all the garden party outfits, especially Zara and her pink shoes. I like the subtle unifying effect of the pink coordinating touched, and that all the cousins were there out of the older group, even Peter Phillips was there. Hope it’s seen more often, they are much too thin on the ground.

Runningupthecurtains · 22/05/2024 20:23

When I did a sneaky Google to find out who it was we couldn't see just the youngsters were listed but I've since seen the Gloucester's were also in attendance - and much more suitably dressed for the weather than most of us!

Loved seeing the menu and Zara's outfit was one of her best. @justasking111 your pearls are very lovely.

Eaumyword · 22/05/2024 21:49

Me too! I'd have needed to try heaps of those lovely sounding sandwiches and cakes! DH could 'tidy up' any I didn't like!😂
It all sounds fab.

eggandonion · 22/05/2024 21:59

That is all great information! I was at an event with Andrew 25 years ago. He only seemed to talk to his minders and was heading off for a round of ⛳ golf.
I was in London yesterday and today and the weather was awful. Thats a shame for all the nice clothes.

Maireas · 22/05/2024 22:07

I'm not sure about Max's white peplum dress, it seems a bit subdued, but maybe she'll go full Max later in the tour!

Yes, that's a lovely parure, @justasking111 .
The pearl on the ring is gorgeous 🤩!
