The MET Gala

Couldn't see a thread but is anyone else eagerly awaiting the looks from the met gala?!

I expect we'll see lots of florals and a few duvets..

The theme of the exhibition is - Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion

Whilst the dress code is - The Garden of Time

Also wondering if Timothee Chalamet and Kylie Jenner might make a red carpet debut together..

Hoping Blake Lively is going.. and Pedro Pascal.. Blush

I always hope that the men attending will think outside the box a bit and go for something a bit more bold..

Yes always fun to see pictures from this.

thebabessavedme · 06/05/2024 20:15

Oh I'm looking forward to seeing the pics in the morning, I love the Met Gala and I would love to be able to go, however, too old, too short, too fat and not famous, so I would feel a total fish out of water, would just the opportunity to waft about in priceless clothes closely followed by my very own glam squad.

just the once! Grin (mind you, I bet I could get a taste for it! Grin)

FizzyDucks · 06/05/2024 22:28

I always struggle to understand how some of the outfits supposedly fit with the theme. I hope I do better this year.

However whilst saying that, I have just seen Emma Chamberlain (no idea who she is) but she looks great! I love dramatic overgrown garden meets Morticia Adams

Oh I didn't know it was today but I love the pictures!

Zendaya looks amazing

Crazy but fascinating!

There is a man in a black velvet suit and hat that’s rather Holbein-esque.

and quite a few 90s goth dresses

I was just about to post this! She looks incredible and there is so much to see from every angle.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 06/05/2024 23:16

JLo showing Lauren Sanchez that less can more if you do it properly.

Still making my mind up if I like Rebecca Ferguson’s dress or not.

FizzyDucks · 07/05/2024 07:15

Another year where I am struggling to see how most of the outfits were meant to show the theme.

What was the deal with Kim Kardashian and the Next cardie she chucked on over it? Was she hiding something?

PragmaticDramatic · 07/05/2024 07:22

Zendaya wins for me.

It did look like she was covering a wardrobe malfunction. And she looked so uncomfortable - her waist was so squeezed in that corset!

TTPD · 07/05/2024 07:26

I liked Zendaya as well. I preferred her first outfit but loved the flower bouquet headdress from her second.

CaveMum · 07/05/2024 07:31

I love the opening lines of the BBC report!

Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.

This year's Met Gala theme would not have impressed The Devil Wears Prada's demon magazine editor Miranda Priestly, but it hasn't stopped a string of stars from walking the green carpet in their garden-inspired garments.

Gotta love a TDWP reference 🤣

covetingthepreciousthings · 07/05/2024 07:42

Just looked at the Kim K pictures, I can't get over the cardigan, I can only presume it was covering some kind of wardrobe malfunction. It's so bobbled!
Very odd, bit of a shame for her if she did have a wardrobe malfunction as she does look uncomfortable. Although maybe that's the tiny waist..

Yeah the way she holds it is odd. In all the pictures I've seen, the top left of the cardigan is held over the top left of her dress - even when she switches hands she doesn't let the top left of the cardigan move, she doesn't let go with one hand until the other has it.
There may be other pictures/clips I haven't see though.

I saw one generous interpretation that it was because the theme involved "reawakening" so it was like she'd just woken up and thrown on a comfy dressing gown type thing. But I think that's a stretch.

This comment is for the Beaty more than the Style:

Nicholas Galitzine, thank you for coming

Ginmonkeyagain · 07/05/2024 08:09

Hmmm. I expected people to do more with this theme. The Garden of Time is such an interesting story and very apt for this rather over the top display of wealth in the current world.

eileandubh · 07/05/2024 08:10

I liked the photographs of Keeley Hawes and Matthew McFadyen: two smart but startled parents at a school awards evening that turned out to be fancy dress.

Yes have to admit I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't more interesting interpretations of the theme.

Just seen a photo of Kim K with both shoulders exposed and the cup of that dress on her left hand size is cut lower than the right. I think she was worried her left boob would pop out. The ridiculous corseting of her waist needs to stop. She's tiny anyway and that cannot be comfortable or safe really.

Iaskedyouthrice · 07/05/2024 08:21

Zendaya looked amazing. Kim K's dress was stunning but I think it was too small on the top half. Karlie Kloss? looked lovely too. I thought the sand dress Tyla wore was really interesting.
Not interested in celebs yadda yadda but I do love looking at the frocks on a red carpet 😁

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 07/05/2024 08:27

I was a bit disappointed with Zendaya’s look, though hard to identify why. The second was more fun.

Loved Rebecca Hall’s outfit and grooming. (Although the Times captioner didn’t appear to know who she is.)

Rita Ora looked amazing.

I'm afraid I have to disagree about Rita Ora. I have seen photos where the body suit is very ill-fitting and all crumpled and I am bored of seeing her practically naked. I also don't understand how it relates to the dress code but happy for someone with an artistic mind to enlighten me.

Ilovemyshed · 07/05/2024 08:54

The reason KK was corseted so tightly and holding the ridiculous cardigan was to increase chatter about her and therefore increase profile. You don't think she does anything by accident huh?

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 07/05/2024 08:59

Well … I probably have read the J G Ballard short story that inspired the dress code, but I don’t remember it at all. But if the general theme is one of holding time - ephemerality v timelessness - then Rita Ora’s ancient beads dress certainly speaks to that.

As did Lily Gladstone’s starry gown.

I did wonder if Keeley Hawes might be wearing white Sketchers with her floral midi. (Probably not midi - haven’t seen full length but it was a bit ghastly.)
