The MET Gala

Couldn't see a thread but is anyone else eagerly awaiting the looks from the met gala?!

I expect we'll see lots of florals and a few duvets..

The theme of the exhibition is - Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion

Whilst the dress code is - The Garden of Time

Also wondering if Timothee Chalamet and Kylie Jenner might make a red carpet debut together..

Hoping Blake Lively is going.. and Pedro Pascal.. Blush

I always hope that the men attending will think outside the box a bit and go for something a bit more bold..

@BlossomBlossomBlossom it was floor length, slightly too long imo (or she needed slightly higher heels), with a split to just above the knee

ThePoshUns · 07/05/2024 09:29

No one mentioning Eddie Redmayne and his wife in matching dresses?! Bit try too hard.
Loved Zendaya and J-Lo.
Also Mindy Kaling's dress, so interesting.

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 07/05/2024 09:44

I was just being mean, @TTPD! Grin

StarsHideYourFir3s · 07/05/2024 09:49

Lana Del Rey's outfit was fascinating.

Ginmonkeyagain · 07/05/2024 09:52

@BlossomBlossomBlossom it's about the fleeting nature of beauty and wealth and ultimate futility of trying to hold back the ravages of time and change. Rather on the nose for the Met Gala 😂

I assumed Ora's stylists ran with the glass flower theme (the protagonists in the story pluck glass flowers from the garden that can stop time for a period when picked).

I liked the beaded dress, but it perhaps needed to be fuller, it revealed too much of the nude body stocking. I think a full seventies style dress rather than tabard shape would have worked better - but then she has a hot body (and a hot husband - who still looked hot despite being dressed like a cheap leatherette sofa) so why not show them off!

Just looked at the Kim K pictures, I can't get over the cardigan, I can only presume it was covering some kind of wardrobe malfunction. It's so bobbled!
Very odd, bit of a shame for her if she did have a wardrobe malfunction as she does look uncomfortable. Although maybe that's the tiny waist..

I love your username :) I quite liked Kim K's look, the cardigan gives an interesting relaxed balance to the rest of the outfit - kind of like if Titania from AMND joined the mortals on a bender and picked up the first thing she could find to ward off the cold when she wakes up to steal off in the morning.

@Ginmonkeyagain Rita Ora specifically said (or it was reported that she said) the point was that some of the beads were ‘older than anyone on this planet’.

Watching the video it’s clear the ‘dress’ was a bloody nuisance to manage, and she looked quite anxious about preserving her modesty in it. But I enjoyed the concept. And her hair and make up were just wonderful. She has obviously travelled quite some way in the past decade.

Rita Ora Reveals 2024 Met Gala Dress Features Beads "Older Than Anyone On This Planet" - E! Online

Rita Ora and Taika Waititi—who got married in 2022—looked perfectly loved up as they attended the 2024 Met Gala in New York City on May 6.

Ginmonkeyagain · 07/05/2024 10:12

I agree I thought the concept was good. Perhaps a full circle dress would have been better - but probably beyond beyond if the beads were ancient!

CrushingOnRubies · 07/05/2024 10:18

Looking through the pictures in the times online.

Did Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds not go???

Thought Kylie Minogue would wear something a bit more out there.

Love Mindy Karling's dress

bryceQ · 07/05/2024 10:56

I actually love Elle Fanning her skin is absolutely luminous.

Yogaandchocolate · 07/05/2024 11:05

Camila Cabello’s hand must have been freezing!

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 07/05/2024 11:14

Yes, @Yogaandchocolate - true dedication to the cause!

Elebag · 07/05/2024 11:16

I love Tylas sand dress and little egg timer 'handbag'.

VogueDarling · 07/05/2024 11:54

I was going to start a thread on this but see there is already chat on here

Is Kim K (or her people) just really smart? She's the only look I've googled to try and understand it! And I want to know more... why the cardi kim!!!

Every other dress I've just thought oh lovely or hmm no. Even absolute show stoppers like Tyla Balmain "sand" dress I've looked at gone wow but don't care enough to really do more than that....

If the cardi was a last min add on then whatever its worked to cause chat!!

Ilovemyshed · 07/05/2024 12:05

Kaia Gerber gets my vote. Simple, elegant and covered up.

Same for Penelope Cruz.

BestNewsSinceLePouDied · 07/05/2024 12:15

The cardi is likely to hide the unavoidable overspill that comes with a corset... you can squeeze & squeeze but the flesh has to come out somewhere! Even when you're as teeny tiny as KK. Still an odd choice though, there are surely better options.

Best look of the night was Phoebe ... can't recall her surname but Sally from Corrie's daughter. Classy, elegant and confident.

MrsVeryTired · 07/05/2024 12:19

Disappointed to have no Jared Leto this year (on tour with his band) his outfits are always very "extra" Grin

jay55 · 07/05/2024 12:20

I liked the sand timer costume but nothing else has particularly grabbed me so far.

mydogisthebest · 07/05/2024 12:23

Wow what a load of tacky clothes. I don't know why some of the woman just don't go totally naked and be done with it. I think most of them look bloody awful

MrsVeryTired · 07/05/2024 12:25

And my favourites were Rebecca Hall and Zendaya

Rowen32 · 07/05/2024 12:33

I read Kim K's cardigan was in homage to a night she'd spent at a garden party and she wore her boyfriend's hoodie home, I'm paraphrasing but she said something like that

Singleandproud · 07/05/2024 12:45

The Met Gala is so different to other events isn't it, definitely more 'art' than anything.
There was a lady with a fabulous sari which was really beautiful but I'm not sure who she was. And the lady who was part tree part Grecian goddess was great.

The creators clearly went for form over function, watching Tyla attempt the stairs was amusing they obviously hadn't had a dry run, and glad the dress didn't fall apart as the lifted her up the designer of her dress had a 'sand' t-shirt too.

I've no idea how they all sit down and eat once they get in there or perhaps it's just canapes, or maybe they all have a more comfortable outfit to change into at the top (I doubt it) all the men were obviously very comfortable in their tuxs, Seth Meyer even said he wears the same one for every event.

I hope Gwendoline Christies hair was a wig or hairpiece because sorting out all that back combing would be a nightmare.

There was an interview earlier in the week with Anna Wintour where she was discussing some possible misinterpretation if the theme as it was meant to reflect the vulnerable dresses on display as part of the exhibit so was supposed to be 'wear once' like Tylas dress or the ice bag (her hand must have been freezing) and about the fragility of items whereas others took it to mean Disney esque sleeping beauty so you get Cara in her chainmail.

taleasoldashoney · 07/05/2024 12:50

There was a lady with a fabulous sari which was really beautiful but I'm not sure who she was.

I saw Alia Bhatt and Isha Ambani in saris I think? I prefered Isha's but they were both beautiful

FloofyBear · 07/05/2024 13:00

Favourites for me were

Nicole Kidman
Georgina Chapman
Rebecca Fergusson - mainly the cloak!

Lifeomars · 07/05/2024 13:10

Love it! watched some of it last night live on the Vogue channel on YouTube. It is such a glorious mix of fabulous fashion and utter madness. Have just been flicking through the photos on the Guardian website.
