What would you do with a bunch of Hermes scarves

So, interesting problem to have, but I have inherited around ten Hermes scarves from an old relative. I don't want to sell them, but have no idea what to do with them either. Does anyone wear silk scarves these days?

I hate to keep them in the boxes for the next 50 years to give them to someone, but any idea what else can be done with these

If you won't wear them I think you should sell them. They would give someone a lot of joy - I think clothes are for wearing not storing away.

CandleWick4 · 29/04/2024 16:48

You could use them on handbag handles? I think they call them Twillys??
I know you said you didn’t want to sell but Hermes prices as they are I would be inclined to sell a few

MsFaversham · 29/04/2024 16:48

Could you get someone to make something out of them for you?

This is what I was thinking, can they be made into tops, dresses etc?

It just feels wrong selling them as I don't need the money and she collected and kept them over the years.

They are kept very well though and have boxes etc. Hypothetically, would it be impolite to give them to people as presents here and there? (as they are used items)

If you don't want them and don't want to sell them then donating them to a charity shop would be a great thing to do (although you would need to make it clear they are valuable). That way the charity will financially benefit from your generosity and the scarves will go to people who will really appreciate them.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 29/04/2024 16:56

Fashions come round, keep them. or in 5/10 years time when everyone is wearing silk scarves you’ll rue the day you got rid of your collection.

Elebag · 29/04/2024 16:57

Sell a couple, donate a couple and keep the rest?

GiveYourHeadAWobble · 29/04/2024 17:02

You could get them made into a beautiful kaftan robe for wearing as a dressing gown or on the beach or around the house. I think dressmakers can do this kind of thing. Or perhaps get some of them made into a dress or a skirt, and keep others to wear as scarves.

This - ive seen them framed too and they can look amazing!

Lovelydovey · 29/04/2024 17:05

Use them! I tie them around handbag handles like twillys. Either that or sell - or give to me!

GoldDuster · 29/04/2024 17:06

Keep your favourite, sell the rest and donate the money to charity. They should be enjoyed, if there are any with any age consider offering to a vintage dealer.

Anything you have made out of them is going to look like something you've had made out of a collection of Hermes scarves, unless they're all very cohesive, and even then and I'm not sure that's the best use for them to be honest.

PenguinLove1 · 29/04/2024 17:06

Dont make them into clothes - they will completely lose their value and be ruined. I would wear them, frame them, or gift them to others in the family to pass them down perhaps?

Saintmariesleuth · 29/04/2024 17:07

@LoraPiano you could gift them, but I would ONLY do this for someone that I absolutely, categorically knew already bought and wore 2nd hand clothing, and would truly appreciate this sort of gift.

Have you tried wearing the scarves? Silk scarves aren't commonly worn, but if you like them, go for it. They could look very classic depending on how you wear them. As suggested above, you could decorate a handbag or display them at home to enjoy them that way.

Chaiilatte · 29/04/2024 17:09

Use them as a twilly on a handbag, although personally Id sell them. Seems a waste to be sitting around in the box for the next however many years.

AdaColeman · 29/04/2024 17:33

I'd frame them, use the clip together frames. You could hang one or two at a time, and make a changing display of them. An Italian friend does that with her collection of silk scarves from Milan, and they look wonderful.

ICanFixHim · 29/04/2024 17:39

If you know someone into fashion and labels they'd probably be really happy to be given a vintage Hermes scarf.

You need to be prepared that it's theirs to do as they please with in case they sell it, have a scrunchie made or something else.

SomethingIn · 29/04/2024 17:45

Don't give them away they're worth a decent amount of money

Sell them to a Hermes specialist

They will then sell them on to people who really live and appreciate them

There's a lady on TikTok who buys and sells them and really sort of cares about them

SomethingIn · 29/04/2024 17:47

DO NOT GIVE THEM TO CHARITY as PP

sell them to someone who will really love and appreciate them

MrsKwazi · 29/04/2024 17:48

Sell them and buy yourself a beautiful piece of jewellry

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 29/04/2024 17:51

Any chance of photos? Sheer nosiness on my part, btw.

EmmaEmerald · 29/04/2024 17:53

I would absolutely love to own one of these!

If you do sell on ebay etc please put up a link. I'm not sure it would be in my price range but it would be the only designer classic I'd ever get probably.

TheValueOfEverything · 29/04/2024 17:53

I’d love to see photos too!

What a wonderful thing to inherit. I wear silk scarves I inherited from my grandmother (not Hermes though) and I do love them. Definitely keep them and use (wear or display). Do you have daughters or nieces to pass them onto one day? They’ll be even more precious in years to come.
