What would you do with a bunch of Hermes scarves

So, interesting problem to have, but I have inherited around ten Hermes scarves from an old relative. I don't want to sell them, but have no idea what to do with them either. Does anyone wear silk scarves these days?

I hate to keep them in the boxes for the next 50 years to give them to someone, but any idea what else can be done with these

If you won't wear them, maybe get one framed and use one as a handbag tie. And then I really like the idea of using them as presents, but only for people who will understand and appreciate what they're being given.

I saw an amazing gallery of Hermes silk scarves at a museum complex in Porto - there were a large number of them, strikingly framed and it made an amazing statement wall.

SomethingIn · 29/04/2024 17:56

Here's an idea of how much they're worth

Honestly hold on to them because when you're older and realise you want to wear them

Wiglio · 29/04/2024 17:59

I have one that I wouldn’t wear and as @AdaColeman said, I had it framed, it’s prefect for the bedroom

crackfoxy · 29/04/2024 17:59

Frame your favorites and sell the rest?

SomethingIn · 29/04/2024 17:59

Here are some current ones

Honestly just keep them for now

Give them to me! 😀

I would be over the moon with such an inheritance. I’d wear and frame them. Dont get rid of any of the packaging and make sure they’re framed so the light can’t harm them (if you go that route).

EmmaEmerald · 29/04/2024 18:02

I was too polite to say "give them to me" 😂

Some scarves will be rare and sought after because they're vintage so worth loads more than when new

Don’t give them to a charity shop! They will not know their worth. Someone will only buy them for a fiver each and then sell them for £500 each.

I would sell them, contact a luxury goods specialists or I’d wear them tied around the handle of a handbag. Or like you said, gift them to people. But they would probably sell them!

SomethingIn · 29/04/2024 18:04

You'll want to wear them later on in life

Keep them till then

SomethingIn · 29/04/2024 18:06

Google preloved Hermes scarves

Heliss · 29/04/2024 18:07

Sell the ones that you don't like the pattern, frame the others. Then you can wear them in future should you want to.

stillavid · 29/04/2024 18:08

I wear silk scarves - they are lovely! There is a lady on TikTok who wears them loads in a very stylish way - here is her instagram which may give some inspiration https://www.instagram.com/sommyyah/

Silk degrades in sunlight so you need to treat them like watercolours or photos and have on north facing walls only, nowhere the sun can get to them.

Aquamarine1029 · 29/04/2024 18:09

I would definitely keep them.

Quitelikeacatslife · 29/04/2024 18:10

I think you'll wear them when you get older, definitely keep a few of your favourites for that and one day you'll have a special occasion and feel amazing or just with jacket jeans and t shirt .
They would make brilliant presents too, for a special birthday. I can't think of anyone who would not be delighted with a beautiful silk scarf

I've never begged for anything in my life. Alas, here I am flinging my name into the donate to me list Grin

TheFormidableMrsC · 29/04/2024 18:11

Frame them?

TheOriginalFrench · 29/04/2024 18:16

What a wonderful collection to inherit.

You could sell them. Some might be worth more than others so it would be good to have them valued first.

However - if you are young enough to ask the question Does anyone wear silk scarves these days? you are almost certainly young enough to change your mind once you’re older and wiser! I would suggest keeping them all for at least a year, while you do a little research. Particularly since you say you don’t need the money they might fetch if sold - I honestly think they’re worth preserving until your tastes catch up with them.

I can relate to your dilemma. I'd strongly recommend you keeping one or two as a momento (do you have offspring who might appreciate them later). Vintage-minded friends might love them - you'll know that better then random posters. Since they're boxed, you could also put them into an auction (like Chiswick) - which pretty much guarantees that they will go to someone who has fallen in love with them. You can then decide what your relative would like you to do with the money - either give it to charity or treat yourself. This what my siblings did (but not with scarfs)...

Also scarves are very much coming back into fashion - tied around the neck rather than a la QE2 - although I imagine her way of wearing them will come back too.

loropianalover · 29/04/2024 18:23

What would I do? I’d box them up, message @loropianalover for her address, and send them first class.

Jokes aside, pick your favourite one or two and have them framed - upstairs and downstairs hallway? Living room, dining room? Does your relative have any living younger relatives that would like one each? You could have them sewn together into a robe, blanket…
