Please help me find a wow dress for a destination wedding

I am going to a wedding In Cyprus in June and looking for some suggestions on a dress. I have over the past 8 months lost 6 stone and hoping to lose another stone by the time the wedding comes around. I'm looking for a wow dress! There will be people there that I haven't seen since the weight loss and I want to make a great impression.
I'm open to all suggestions, however I need to have sleeves to cover the top of my arms. I don't want to wear any cover up so would definitely need a dress with sleeves.
Budget around £100. Cant be yellow as this is the bridesmaids colour. I'm not keen on all the floral prints that are around at the moment. Would like it slightly fitted on the top as I am a pear shape with a small waist and wider hips. Blonde hair and in my early 40s.
Thanks

The Debenhams one will be too hot for Cyprus!

I have no suggestions for dresses OP, but I was once looking for a dress for a wedding in the south of France in July. So it was going to be HOT 🥵 It took me a long time to find a dress that I liked (I don't like most prints, and definitely not florals) that wasn't polyester. I would avoid polyester as you'll boil!

I eventually found a soft teal coloured dress in woven viscose (I like viscose) in a very flattering shape in Phase Eight. In the sale, too. Then COVID hit and the wedding in France was cancelled and I didn't get to wear it!

Thank you. I love the colour but not sure I'm keen on the dress.

Yes, it’s too ordinary!

I have just bought this dress https://metamorphoza.com/collections/dresses-1/products/oversize-shirt-dress for a wedding in Wales.

It arrived today ( took 12 days in total as it's from Europe). It's absolutely stunning. Beautifully made, packaged, nice than you note and gift.

If it's too much they do other lovely dresses. You won't see you hips in this one and the top is lower than it looks in the photos I think.

Red dress

Edited

Certainly different!

Have you had a bad experience with them?
Never had a problem, and definitely worth a look!

Several, and never a good one. Their customer service is fine, they've always processed the refunds without a problem, but I've never bought anything from them that I wanted to keep...horrid fabrics, not nice stuff, however it looks on the website. I don't bother any more.

I agree. Whilst it's a lovely dress and the colour is gorgeous, I think you need to consider how hot it is going to be ?

June in Cyprus could well be 30 degrees plus.

Stunned anyone would front up at a wedding in these and that the op is wanting the green one. Just shows how tastes differ.

I think the PP just meant 40+ was the target market, not that there should be legislation passed enforcing every 40+ woman to shop there 🙄

How about this (though a bit over budget): https://www.wolfandbadger.com/uk/the-hebe-embellished-wrap-dress-with-tie-waist-and-flutter-sleeve/

I think everyone knows that. It's more that a shop where any kind of flair or style has gone to die should be targeting itself at the over 40 market. Why do they think women 'over 40' need to have floral, round-necked, knee-length dresses is beyond me. Women over 40 don't need to have the idea that they should fade into the background and be sensible. It's hard enough becoming invisible when you hit the middle-bit of life, we should be encouraging women to have the confidence to shout a bit louder! Iris Afpel, Mary Portas, Lauren Hutton, Jenna Lyons, Jennifer Connolly ...... they still have it ALL going on.

I had this, or a very similar brief last year (albeit no sleeve requirement) and eventually got a sensational dress from Farm Rio.

I felt really special and it was so different.
They do plenty with sleeves.

Although I'll now acknowledge I'm off brief as I expect they're all over budget!

It's always fabulous to come on these threads and see brands I've never heard of before. Some of these dresses are amazing! Finery London and Never Fully Dressed always have some stunners. NFD are great finds on Vinted too.

My DD loves Roman and she's only just over 30

Me too , these look like cruise/black tie attire and too formal for a beach wedding. It just shows how much tastes differ.

I don't like most of the dresses suggested. The green &Other Stories dress with the pin tucking is the only dress I'd buy.

If my luggage went missing and I had to buy something in an emergency the pink Nobody's Child dress or the pale blue Rixo dress might not have been my first choice but if they were the best available, I'd wear them, probably happyily.

If the ones on this link or Roman or Silk Fred or the cape dresses were the options available I either wouldn't go to the wedding or buy a plain, cotton dress or skirt or long cotton t-shirt.

Darkdiamond · 17/04/2024 19:25

An idea, if nobody has said it, is to buy a dress you like and get a dress maker to add some nice butterfly sleeves in a matching colour, maybe in chiffon type material.

StedeBonnet · 17/04/2024 19:25

I'll get skated but Boden seems to have some lively bright coloured dresses in their latest adverts.

StedeBonnet · 17/04/2024 19:28

I wouldn't have the confidence to wear this but I really like it

No need to faff about with that when there are plenty of dresses with sleeves out there!

BirtyDird · 17/04/2024 19:43

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle yes the green one was nice enough, although when I first opened the link I thought it looked hideous due to the models strange pose! When you go to the following photos it looks much better, what is it with these weird poses, zara do the same

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 17/04/2024 19:51

There should be a sin bin for style and beauty with posters getting temporary bans from posting in the section for hideous suggestions.
I am stunned by so much of this thread.

Isn't that the whole point though? You get a huge variety of ideas and suggestions that you may never otherwise come across, it's great!

bfsham · 17/04/2024 20:22

The only dress i like is the one Amanda Holden is wearing in the Next link ....but even that might be too sweaty a material for the brief.

Lentilweaver · 17/04/2024 20:56

itwasahotsummersnight · 17/04/2024 15:52

I hate nearly all budget dresses suitable for weddings, as they are mostly sweaty shiny polyester florals, but this is beautiful and a bargain. Not in the first pic, but look at the rest. I might buy the one in black.
