Grey hair regret

I've been growing out my grey...only now I don't think I like it! I'm so very very reluctant to go back to dying it dark brown (it literally needs roots doing every fortnight)

So, could I dye the whole lot a dark blonde? Obviously this wouldn't show on the remaining dark bits, but would it cover the white parts?

I'm a bit sad to be thinking about doing this as I've grown out over half of my bra-band level hair, but I just can't get used to it!

@Trixiefirecracker ‘Grey’ hair can be different colours. Depending on how much melanin is left in the hair it can be anywhere from actual grey, right through to white, almost transparent, which would affect the colour outcome of dye/henna.

It’s grey and it dyes well, that’s all I can tell you. Definitely not transparent. 🤔😂

🤣My apologies, wrong word. I meant translucent not transparent… Tales of the invisible hair 😆 I feel a book coming on. I digress. Anyway I can tell the word correction probably won’t help much if all you’re seeing is ‘grey’. Glad whatever you’re doing works well for you, just be prepared that the Henna results may change as the invisible hair progresses 😅

I honestly never realised how controversial henna was until I suggested it on this thread! 🤣 it’s been much better for my hair that normal dye and has left it very healthy and glossy so thought it was a good call to suggest it! Not so, it would appear!

This is mine. It seems really coarse and dry. Really not sure what to do with the colour.

My hair is annoying in that it's grey on top but still dark brown underneath. I've no idea how it would look left to grow out as I've dyed it since my 30s.

I used to dye it dark brown and had the same issue with roots showing every 2 to 3 weeks. Then my hairdresser suggested blond highlights (I never aspired to be blond but I do think it's less ageing on older skin than dark hair). Initially she would put a blond tint all over too (different colour to the highlights). Having a range of colours stopped the grey roots showing as quickly.

Now I just have highlights 3 to 4 times a year. And some parts are my natural grey / brown but the mix looks fine. Yes it takes ages and I hate sitting for hours but it keeps me going. The brightness of the colour fades out gradually, but the blond streaks stay blond. In between, I touch up obvious grey areas on the roots at the top and back with a dye she recommended. It blends in OK, though never looks as good as when it's first done.

I don't think I'll ever be able to grow out the grey (or ever dare to) as I have a weird pattern of grey / not grey underneath. Maybe when I'm 80!

I think I’m pretty lucky this time around with the grey. It’s coming through a lot lighter then the first time The bits of brown/orange are the remains from when I had to have it stripped about 2 years ago now

That looks lovely, i actually can’t wait for mine to get greyer as I just think I’m currently just looking like I’m overdue a hairdresser trip rather than a purposeful look.

Two years ago? That would be four months growth for me. Does your hair grow really slow or was it a typo?

The regrowth is nice though.

Nope, the colour was stripped 30th Aug 2022. Thats when I had all the weird and wonderful colours taken out and went back being brunette. The Orange stripped colour will only ever grow/cut out. All the colours Ive had on top since have faded and gone, but the base stayed orange .

One more cut/thinning will take the last out. Its giving a funny dirty/brassy hue atm

Actually looking back at photos, I went Blue on top of that :)

At this moment Im happy with the shade its coming through as. Lets see though cos I tend to get bored and then start with the colours again
