Pastel Wedding outfit

I’ve been invited to a wedding in the summer but the guests have been asked to wear pastel colours.

I am mid-40s a size 16 and suit brighter colours (Spring from a colour consultation I had a few years back). I have no idea what I’d like or even where to look. I’d like something I’ll feel good in, is good quality and I can wear again.

Any idea gratefully received!

Yeah, I'd just decline tbh.

I think it's very rude to make demands of your guests like this.

TheOriginalFrench · 03/04/2024 22:26

Do you have a budget?

(I mostly hate pastels …)

potplantsinparadise · 03/04/2024 22:31

What's your colouring, and what type of outfits do you feel comfortable in / suit your shape?

mdinbc · 03/04/2024 22:31

Can you veer towards the bright side of pastel? I'm not particularly fond of this, but it gives you the idea.

A spring green, vibrant lavender, sunny yellow?

I also think it's silly to make demands for guests.

HummingbirdChandelier · 03/04/2024 22:33

Could you tell us your colouring/good bits/preferences/venue ?

Christian Wijnants Mostly silk.

Thanks everyone so far - will have a look at suggestions. The wedding is in Spain in late May.

I don’t really have a budget - I’m happy to spend a reasonable amount assuming it’s something I’d wear again. I did see one Hobbs dress that was c£200.

I’m a spring colour, would normally go for coral, red, cobalt or navy blue, bright green type colours. I’m hourglass shape, don’t particularly like my arms.

Thank you!

ps. I wouldn’t go for a theme for guests either but it’s a close friend who I love so trying to just get on with it for her!

Cos, suit. Meets the brief.

Loulou Studio Or the grey? Wonderful dress.

Massimo Alba Silk. Simple.

I like these but think they are probably too bold might run one past her and see what she says!

Noooooooooo !

I was just about to suggest the second Klements dress! (Thinking the first might be too voluminous and hot for late Spring in May?)

The second would surely be perfect, @Nightshade9?

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 03/04/2024 23:16

Well, if you're a bride and you start imposing such a restrictive dress code you run the risk you might be upstaged. Lovely dress.

It's a light cotton and being so voluminous should be plenty of air circulating !

The second Klements dress would be eminently wearable at anything you need or want to wear a frock to.

The first Klements as with @Daveismyhero 's suggestion and the Christian Wijnant have a risk they might upstage the bride.

I love this, but it is a bit pricey. I think it might also be a bit warm and although there’s no chance I’ll actually upstage the bride. The rest of the guest might think I’ve tried to!

Klements. It's definitely pastels although possibly not what the bride have been expecting.

I like the idea of these, but I probably need something a little more fitted. I tend to look huge in this type of dress like I’m wearing a tent even though others look super stylish in them.

My SIL (DH's brother's wife) insisted that the family had to wear black and white, or silver to her wedding. She didn't like the dress my MIL had bought and made her buy another one, at MIL's expense of course. Poor DH and his other DB had to wear hideous white suits that were such poor fabric that you could see the seam allowance on the trouser legs through the fabric. She also wanted them to buy white shoes but they just ignored her. DH has size 12 extra wide feet so that would have been a challenge. A total Bridezilla, not that it was a surprise.
