Pastel Wedding outfit

I’ve been invited to a wedding in the summer but the guests have been asked to wear pastel colours.

I am mid-40s a size 16 and suit brighter colours (Spring from a colour consultation I had a few years back). I have no idea what I’d like or even where to look. I’d like something I’ll feel good in, is good quality and I can wear again.

Any idea gratefully received!

Self Portrait are my go to wedding guest dresses, they always have a pretty big range of pastels too.

I would not attend any wedding where the guests are asked to wear specific colours.

Pastels and floral can be incredibly frumpy - careful with puff sleeves and tie fronts... not good.

Gosh I love that John Lewis one! Absolutely perfect for a spring wedding and very wearable again for general spring wear. Unfortunately the pastel mint is oos but the other green one is GORG 😍

Does the ridiculous request extend to the male guests?
You run the risk of looking like a load of overgrown flower girls and pageboys.

Winners/TJ MAXX will have something right now.

i have a beautiful mint green dress with empire waist and little orange berries from there. Size 14.

and depending how you’re shaped (I’m bigger on the bottom) dresses give you a couple size up or down options. (Backless, roomy V, fit and flare)

depending on the season you may also have a lovely tan and be more inclined to look better in pastels?

good luck.

If it’s in the country I’d steer clear of yellow or you’ll be covered in those little black flies.

MaryFuckingFerguson · 04/04/2024 19:48

Pastels would be a nightmare for me. I’d just ignore the stupid dress code. I think it’s a real cheek to ask guests to wear certain colours. People are so up their own arses.

bridgetreilly · 04/04/2024 22:25

I like these but think they are probably too bold might run one past her and see what she says!

Do not do this.

You don’t want to make a bigger deal out of this than necessary. Choose something you like that is towards the pastel end but not pale. And then stop worrying. It’ll be fine on the day.

Loads of these expensive floral cotton dresses look like everyday summer frocks to me? Not wedding wear?

Northumberlandgirl · 05/04/2024 03:35

If you’ve a John Lewis or a Phase Eight nearby arrange a personal shopper date. I found this a fantastic help when preparing for a wedding. I thought I knew what suited me but they encouraged me to try new things.

Can you go with a deep, cool pastel suit, like khaki, rust, grey or denim in colour, and then team it with a very pretty pastel top and scarf.
So you could reuse the suit with darks and brights later.

I was interested to know this too!

It's going to be hard for all the men to get pastel-coloured suits. I guess they can do shirts and ties though.

If it only applies to women then I would not go.

The op has said the bride is a close friend. Of course she’s going to go.

Bridezilla’s have been around since time began. During the wedding seasons of the 1990’s when close friends got married I received ridiculous requests from the bride - ‘please don’t get a French manicure’ was one. Another bride asked me not to wear the perfume I normally wore as ‘it was going to be her wedding day scent’. You just smile and wait for them to return to sanity.

I’m sure the bride in question here has some insta photos in mind which are very unlikely to turn out the vision she has in her head and the op is gamely trying to accommodate a hellish guest dress code brief. Maybe suggest some dresses to help out?

Do not wear cream linen to someone else's wedding....
