Evening everyone. I'm starting this new thread at a bit of a sad time, and I know we're all thinking of Kate and her family. Let's hope that as we continue in our lighthearted way, good news arrives for her, and others who are in a similar situation, either themselves or loved ones.🌷

@Runningupthecurtains .

You might just be lucky if you're prepared to buy Preloved. A lot of outfits worn once for weddings etc wind up on websites for sale.

I've bought some gorgeous shoes this way over the years.

RockaLock · 18/04/2024 19:37

Oh how lovely! You will have a fantastic time, @Runningupthecurtains, everyone is so happy and excited to be there, it's such a nice atmosphere. And make sure you either walk in or out via the main entrance, just to have all the tourists gawping at you.

Sorry, I have no advice on the fashion front. Except that the jumpsuit you linked looks lovely. But prepare to wear something warm underneath, depending on the weather, as otherwise it can get cold to be standing around outside for so long - no alcohol to help warm you up, only tea and coffee Grin

Borrow a hip flask 😂

Have you had a look at Silkfred?
They have some quite dressy jumpsuits - this one is satin.

I worry that satin would look like I've come in my jimjams. I think I need more tailored/structured.

Maireas · 18/04/2024 19:41

I often think jumpsuits can be a bit tricky in that respect. If you want structure, would you consider a tailored navy suit? That would look good.

Borrow? You seem to think I don't own a hip flask (or two).

A suit feels a bit come from the office (well in the days when I worked in a London office rather than in a rural definitely nothing smarter than jeans setting) and I would never wear it again. Where as without a hat/glammy shoes I would probably use a jumpsuit again.

We've four in the house. None of them mine 😂

We have several including an antique slim line silver one with floral engraving that has been used for many a mother of the bride/groom when DH was best man or I was a bridesmaid maid.

That's a great picture! They all look fab. I love Max's outfit, that's a great colour on her, and Leti looks very glam!

What a good idea. My father poured us each a brandy before we left for the church on my wedding day

RockaLock · 18/04/2024 19:57

Hip flasks are a great idea, I'm just not sure you'd get them past the armed security people!

Maireas · 18/04/2024 19:58

If we can't help, @Runningupthecurtains , I wonder if it's worthwhile starting a thread on S&B? Those people are amazing at finding good stuff!

OP posts:
Runningupthecurtains · 18/04/2024 19:59

DH's first outing as best man involved a rather 'flamboyant' mum of the groom - it was decided that his job was to get her just the right amount of not quite sober but definitely not drunk rather than leaving her to her own devices and we have become default mother wranglers ever since!

I might if I'm feeling brave enough!

Runningupthecurtains · 18/04/2024 20:04

I worry that as a fat 50 something they might not quite match my style (or distinct lack there of).

I will of course report in on any royal ladies I spy on the day (I'm fingers crossed for Sophie).

Maireas · 18/04/2024 20:05

Don't worry! People do it all the time and the responses are incredibly helpful!

Zara and Mike at Cheltenham, Victoria wearing snowshoes to visit a swamp, and goodbye to the Royal guests.

Ok, Mathilde, what's going on? That outfit just does nothing for her at all. The colour isn't great.
MT following the wide legged trousers vibe too but the monochrome is a bit better.
Zara looks nice there, I like her coat.
I'm wondering why CPV is in a swamp!

OP posts:
GrouchyKiwi · 18/04/2024 20:23

Those photos of Victoria are amazing.

Zara looks very slim in that outfit.

CliffsofMohair · 18/04/2024 20:25

CPV looks so content in her role.

not loving pastel pink on Mathilde. It washes her out.

Maireas · 18/04/2024 20:27

CPV does look happy! She really does have a smiley expression in most pictures, she really does embrace her role. I like her navy coat, I could do with one like that in this weather!

Our royals still in their winter garb is depressing at this time of year.
