Communal changing rooms in places like Miss Selfridge. So glad that these, to my knowledge, don’t exist any longer.

Shell suits and stilettoes.
I'm not guilty of wearing these haha🤣

Boob tubes......nor these😆

Thin 90s eyebrows (I know we laugh about insta brows but the pluck all your brows out and re draw them in with a sharpie look was waaaay worse)

The late 80s Sperm Brow was the bizz though .

I used to have decent eyebrows but got too tweezer happy .
Sperm Brows looked like a tadpole with a rounder end near the bridge of your nose .
Then the angular r brow where you picked a point and that was the highest bit of the angle .

I didn't do the 90s one though

These are my ideal eyebrows but I cannot go into a salon and say "Give me Micheal Keaton eyebrows" Grin

Loving this, trip down memory lane😂

Shell suit ✅
Brown suit with bandeau top (my posh spice moment, courtesy of Bay Trading 🙈) ✅
Strappy stilettos ✅
Combats with crop top (à la All Saints) ✅
Strappy top over a tshirt ✅

Plenty more I'm sure, but my memory has blocked them!

I was in my 20s in the 80s. I loved some of the Laura Ashley dresses, the velvet headbands, the coloured tights (I am wearing these again), jewel coloured cardigans and tops from Benetton, navy polka dot skirts, sleevless giblets, cotton pie crust collar blouses, and flat courts with bows and gilt.Blush

So this season H and M is full of classic colours, paired back styles and fake pearls. People forget this is 80s. We went through a lot of different styles in the 80s. It wasn’t perms and shoulder pads for 10 solid years

New2024 · 25/02/2024 14:16

No one has said this, unfortunately because they have not gone away. But can boot cut jeans just go out pleassse! They are the worst kind of flares that think they are not flares

Combats with a crop top is quite a nice look if you're young and slim

Workingmytickettoparadise · 25/02/2024 14:27

@New2024 that might be because the Chanel look appears to be in wider fashion in terms of the fake pearls.

Crimpers

It’s having a moment as it did in the 80s.

Boob tubes are still very popular, I think they call them bandeau tops

I think hypercolour t shirts are probably not very sadly missed.

Denim short shorts over ripped black tights.

Wasn't it the denim shorts that were ripped, rather than the black tights? Or perhaps your version never quite made it to rural E Anglia!

Maireas · 25/02/2024 15:37

I loved the 80s too, @RosesAndHellebores .
Coming after the crimplene brown 70s, it was a joy! Bright, clear colours, cheerful designs, natural fabrics, lovely shoes... I bought some gorgeous dresses from Laura Ashley. Quality cotton, and lovely knitwear from Benetton.
Never beaten, imo.

cheapskatemum · 25/02/2024 15:38

Hot pants. I was a chubby pre-pubescent who longed to look fashionable in the early 70s. These were my nemesis. The ones with the bibs were the worst, as if the waist fitted they cut my crotch in half. Also too much of a faff when you needed the loo in a hurry!

Oh yes !
If you were tall and chic and had the correct footwear , they looked quite nice .
They could look disasterous like Short Longs or Long Shorts .

What was the difference between Pedal Pushers and Capri Pants ?

I wore mine with the obligatory crocheted poncho 🙄

LamonicBibber1 · 25/02/2024 15:58

I'm screaming internally when I recall how my "work suit" used to be light grey tweed-ish suit shorts and a matching cropped waistcoat over a shirt 🤡 (in approx 2008/9). Worn with black tights!!

Someonescatmum · 25/02/2024 16:02

I've got news for you... a lot of this stuff is coming back!

Streaky highlights
Big belts
Crop tops

Workingmytickettoparadise · 25/02/2024 16:14

Coloured tights have been back a while and personally I love them!

In a way I do and don’t miss the plethora of fashion mags that there used to be in terms of the fact that they pretty much pushed the one body type. I do miss the likes of Instyle and Glamour for the freebies as much as anything else. What I do like is the fact that people don’t seem drawn in to the idea that you have to be a certain size or shape to wear things. The debate about body positivity, health and being a certain weight aside and regardless I think that it is good to see people pretty much influencing trends in everyday life.I think the more we move away from certain body parts etc being in ‘fashion’ can only ever be a good thing.

Every single thing from the 80s: clothes, hair, makeup, everything. What a tragedy of a decade fashion-wise. I just cannot believe it when I see photos/vids, just what were they thinking???

We were thinking it was so much better than the horror show that was the 70s!

I will defend my 80s style (my mid teens to mid twenties) to the death.

Maireas · 25/02/2024 16:40

I agree with you, @CharlotteStreetW1 ! See my post upthread.

Belovedbagle · 25/02/2024 17:37

Leg of mutton sleeves. I had broad shoulders anyway looked like a boxer.

Jabberwonky · 25/02/2024 17:42

Other than bustles , I'd nominate Oxford Bags.

And I wish scrunch bum leggings were immediately thrown into the 'fucking stupid ideas' history books too.

@70isaLimitNotaTarget I think we must be the same age. You've just brought back the henna smell

DH had his chunky jumper tucked in his jeans on our first date

OutingPosts · 25/02/2024 18:06

I used to match my tights to my jumper and court shoes to my skirt in the eighties.
