London folks - I know this has been asked many times, but what are the best London Toast shops? In terms of stock, friendliness, etc. Asking for my sis who will be there next week.
Also, if any London folk have tips on fun things to do that her 14 year old daughter might not consider completely lame, or great places the two of them could eat out that are not super fancy (asian of all kinds/mexican/other South American/italian/other more unusual cuisines) that would also be great. Thanks.

faustina · 10/03/2024 16:09

@Dee1224 - I loved the furniture too! The little bench especially

Countmeout · 10/03/2024 16:25

If f you look up the website @Dee1224 @faustina the bench is half the price 😮

That’s pretty shocking @Countmeout - thanks for the heads up!

@ScottishMouse

Things to do with 14 year old:

Japan Centre: The one just off Leicester Square, followed by a visit to the really cool Japanese restaurant that’s attached, (the one with the separate entrance on the street, not the one in the shop itself!) This can be combined with a trip to Chinatown round the corner and to the excellent Korean supermarkets on Charing Cross Road just by Chinatown.

Covent Garden: Shops and market area. They often have street performers too.

The British Museum - still free.

The V&A - still free and depending on whether your DN likes that sort of thing.

On Friday - Sunday: Borough Market. Can be combined with a visit to Southwark Cathedral and a walk past the Golden Hinde along the Thames to the Globe Theatre and the Tate Modern, (the Tate is also free to go in).

Further afield: Greenwich - it’s fun to get the boat along the Thames from near London Bridge all the way to Greenwich. Once there, Greenwich market is fun to visit at the weekend. The Mayflower has also reopened. There is also Greenwich park, the Maritime Museum and the Observatory.

For shopping with teens, you can’t beat Oxford Street/Regent Street for Primark, H&M, Uniqlo, etc.

Visiting Harrods is an experience that everyone should have at least once, imo. The Food Hall is still lovely, (although I don’t like the shop itself as much as I used to before it changed hands.)

The IMAX at Waterloo is a spectacular cinematic experience!

Let me know if you want any other suggestions.

Re: Toast - the King’s Road one is small, but they are quite friendly in there. Everyone says the Notting Hill one is the best for size and stock, but I haven’t been. At the weekend, a trip there could be combined with a visit to Portabello Road.

ScottishMouse · 10/03/2024 17:01

This is amazing, thank you so much @Dee1224! I will pass these tips and ideas on to her, and maybe pocket some myself for a possible trip later in the year.

Dee1224 · 10/03/2024 17:02

@Countmeout I have just compared the prices of the Will Nock furniture on the Toast site and on the maker’s site. I am a bit shocked.

I would be very interested in hearing Toast’s justification. I can understand 10% mark up due to the extra exposure/advertising, but they have added a lot more!

Dee1224 · 10/03/2024 17:05

You are welcome @ScottishMouse - I hope they have fun x

faustina · 10/03/2024 17:12

@Countmeout thank you! Yes that's quite some mark up!

LightandBreezy · 10/03/2024 17:13

Adding to the excellent suggestions @Dee1224 has provided, my niece and I have really enjoyed going around Camden Market and the Stables for more unusual shops, then you can walk down regent's canal to Coal Drops Yard - takes about 20/25 minutes to walk along the canal so hopefully the weather will improve but it's a nice walk normally. Coal Drops Yard has some more upmarket shops your Sister might enjoy so APC, Margaret Howell, COS, American Vintage etc and Beyond Retro and Other Stories for her daughter. There's a cinema round the back if they want a break from walking too. The Islington Toast shop is pretty close by - small but they had all the different sizes in a storeroom so they were making the most of the space. Friendly too.

Countmeout · 10/03/2024 18:15

@ScottishMouse we enjoyed Spitalfields market. Some interesting shops nearby and Toast Redchurch street is just an easy walk from it. If your sister does go to Oxford Street Toast Dereham Street is a few yards down a street nearly opposite John Lewis.

The Toast bench does include postage ( by special yak delivery in a gold box made by Cornish Fairies )

Thanks so much for these suggestions too@Countmeout and @LightandBreezy - so good of you. I will pass them on.

Brackenfield · 11/03/2024 13:00

Apologies if its old news, but I placed an order yesterday and dispatch says a Kindred gift as well, whether this is still the basket or something different?

Stoic123 · 11/03/2024 16:16

@Brackenfield - I would expect it to still be the basket. They don't normally do different Kindred gifts this close together.

ScottishMouse · 11/03/2024 17:52

@Snowyowl78 I tried that tee. More fitted than my Emma, I probably would have gone up one size if I had bought it. It was too thin and see-through for me in the cream colour and I wasn’t interested in the other colours. I would say good for layering, but I probably wouldn’t wear it alone.

Countmeout · 11/03/2024 18:20

As @ScottishMouse says @Snowyowl78 . I however kept the cream to layer under the crinkle pinafore. Feels odd in that you wouldn’t think it was cotton but had a stretchy mix although it is 100% cotton. Not yet washed. Not generously sized.

Odd washing instructions. You’re not to put it in a pile when wet and wash inside out.

OP posts:
Snowyowl78 · 11/03/2024 19:00

@ScottishMouse @Countmeout thanks so much I am going to try a larger size then in the green. I’d like an Emma but less flared so maybe it will work. Weird washing instructions! Don’t quite understand not putting it in a pile!

ScottishMouse · 12/03/2024 11:27

Has anyone tried the check mulmul lounge dress? What‘a the sizing like?
I love the fabric, and while I would never wear a strappy dress/top like this on its own, I wonder if I could make it work with a cardi or cropped top over or maybe even a tshirt underneath. I saw it being worn over a shirt at the kindred event I was at recently. I didn’t love that look, but thought it might work with something different under/over.

ScottishMouse · 12/03/2024 11:45

I hadn’t spotted that @neveradullmoment99 Did they do that style last year? I really like it, but didn’t pay much attention as know it wouldn’t work for me.

Sorry, wrong person, I meant @Theteapotsbrokenspout

Qweesh · 13/03/2024 20:25

@LightandBreezy have you worn your shoes yet? I wore mine for the first time tonight. They need a little bit of breaking in …. Well actually no, just the right one, it’s my slightly bigger foot

Countmeout · 14/03/2024 09:13

I like the look of that jumpsuit in theory @Theteapotsbrokenspout . I would try it but neither colour is really enticing me.

OP posts:
LightandBreezy · 14/03/2024 09:43

@Qweesh no I've not worn mine yet, still feels too chilly for them. I've got the opposite problem ( bigger left foot!) I'm relying on them being extremely comfortable as I justified them as being for festivals!

AFingerofFudge · 14/03/2024 10:00

Does anyone have any sales vibes?? I know there was a mini sale in March last year??

I have been lying low and trying not to spend any money. I did splurge on a pair of Beyond Nine Mabel trousers in the green gingham as they seemed to slot in with my Toast items. Other than that I have been trying to make the most of purchases I have already made rather than wishing about future ones which is the trap I usually fall into!
