Hi @MrsRadichio - I am pretty good about doing my PF exercises and it’s nowhere near as bad as 18 months ago, but as soon as I try to wear flatter things, (like my wonderful slippers), the pain comes back ten-fold - it’s so annoying 😿.

@MiracleToast - the Kindred garden event, (I was quite surprised that it held my interest for 90 minutes), was on the Toast events page - one of those that was free, but you had to sign up for. They might put the recording on the website later, as I know they have done this before. I don’t really understand why they make people register for a freebie 🤷‍♀️

Dee1224 · 01/03/2024 10:46

I had another look at the FM trainers - £195 is an eye watering price! Fingers crossed they are reduced in the sale @ScottishMouse or turn up on Vinted, etc.

faustina · 01/03/2024 10:49

I think the pinafore dress (always open) over very wide trousers from the early seventies was Partridge Family era yes? Maybe best left there 😀 Although I have seen it on a very elderly very boho friend more recently, but she absolutely never followed fashion and could wear anything and look amazing

There have been a few Toast people on Instagram wearing trousers over dresses recently as in the live yesterday, not sure I really like it

MiracleToast · 01/03/2024 10:57

Ah, I must have missed that @Dee1224 I hope they put it up soon. Thanks for clarifying and happy growing 🌱

Dee1224 · 01/03/2024 11:20

@Alpacasoft - I knew the quilted thin nylon coat I returned last week to Uniqlo reminded me of something- housecoats! Now there’s a blast from the past. I think my nana had one when I was very very young!

ScottishMouse · 01/03/2024 11:27

Thanks @MrsRadichio i did see the trainers on Uniform Research but I particularly liked the colours of the navy/green ones Toast have.
Totally eye watering @Dee1224 but I find shoes so tricky that I will often spend more than I wish to if I find ones that fit.

Dee1224 · 01/03/2024 11:33

I agree @ScottishMouse - I have loads of Hokka trainers as recommended by my podiatrist, but they aren’t waterproof and don’t look good with skirts/dresses😿.

The search continues…

Aaah I just realised that UK housecoats are something very different!
Like a synthetic day dressing gown?

Not from the UK, it was a cotton or canvas A line sleeveless over dress , usually plain and always done up, worn for all house/ garden tasks .
If really heavy duty cleaning or gardening also head scarf tied at the back, never under the chin !

Dee1224 · 01/03/2024 11:48

I know the things you mean @Alpacasoft - my nana had one of those too - a thin cotton wrap she called her ‘pinny’, and which was never, ever to be worn outside the house😹

Yes, housecoats in the UK were the thin, stiff nylon things. Usually quilted and floral in pastel colours!

Countmeout · 01/03/2024 12:42

I bought it would give a bit of heat @MrsRadichio as the weather is not yet warm or even remotely warm or even not cold. But yes the dress was very long..I doubt a pair of leggings under a dress for heat but you can’t see them.

@Stoic123
I agree with the colours, too faded a palette for me but I wasn't keen on the brown either.

Not sure what season I am but navy, white, chambray blue, denim, hot pink, grey, clean not muddy caramel all suit me whereas pastels don't and yellow makes me look ill.

There are a couple of things I like -the chambray pintuck dress , which I already have and the short sleeve blue shirt.
Could anyone advise me regarding the Steve Mono pumps?
How does SM come up size wise?

I’m very navy/blues/denim favoured…. Just gone for the blue patch skirt and boxy collared cardi … but the washed out shades don’t do me any favours. I’ll probably spend more time digging out older items to re wear, old favourites will always remain so …

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 01/03/2024 13:19

I see the kindred gift has made its way on to Vinted.

Qweesh · 01/03/2024 14:16

Reporting in on some of the new drop! I ordered the barrel leg trousers in Indigo and Oil Cloth. Not flattering on me and the Indigo ones seemed to be smaller overall than the Oil Cloth Cotton Linen ones. So they’re both going back. I also ordered the rounded hem dress in both colours, I am keeping the Marigold and returning the Puck, nice and flowy for summer but I would definitely wear it belted. If anyone wants photos of colours etc before I parcel them up just shout.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 01/03/2024 14:30

@Qweesh I am just about to order the barrel leg in oil cloth, how did you find the waist sizing? And what was the length like? Many thanks

Qweesh · 01/03/2024 14:52

@Theteapotsbrokenspout they were a bit snug to get over my bum and hips but, once on, the waist was comfortable and not too tight. Length wise they just hit my ankle bone, I’m 5’5”. I also felt there was a lot of fabric at my tummy

ScottishMouse · 01/03/2024 15:05

That was my feeling about the barrel leg trousers @Qweesh @Theteapotsbrokenspout. Far too much fabric on the front under the waistband. I find pleats unflattering on my belly and that is exactly what I got with these trousers. Such a shame.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 01/03/2024 15:12

Thanks @Qweesh I think I will try them in my usual size then.

Qweesh · 01/03/2024 15:21

@ScottishMouse yeah same, pleats are not my friend. My only exception has been the Dahl paper bag trousers from a season or so ago.

FitzLea · 01/03/2024 15:29

I had a question about poplin, with the green cotton striped dress in mind - there was the previous season’s colour in blue too (woad). Is poplin easy to care for? Does it shrink when first washed? And I’m assuming it needs an iron/steaming before wearing?

ScottishMouse · 01/03/2024 16:04

I find poplin tricky to care for @FitzLea . I find that washing makes the seams contract and they need to be stretched out when wet. I also find that it is hard to iron poplin without marking. This is more of a problem with a plain dark colour, but it generally puts me off poplin. I have one poplin shirt from Toast - a slate coloured pj style shirt -which I love, but I hardly ever wear it as looking after it is tricky. Others may have tips and tricks I am unaware of though…

Countmeout · 01/03/2024 16:17

I have the woad dress and skirt @FitzLea . The dress was in circle and I bought it just before Christmas. I assume it has been washed and is just like the skirt in the same material that I haven’t washed. I have the poplin sleeveless top that went with the skirt ( slate colour maybe is it?) and it has been washed with no issues, in fact I was pleasantly surprised how well I got it ironed given I’m not a great ironer. The skirt and dress are a heavier poplin than the top.I think they are quite a casual looking fabric as opposed to other poplins. I think they were described as crinkle poplin so have more of a texture if you know what I mean. I wore the skirt a lot at the end of the summer but as I only got the dress at Christmas I haven’t worn it yet. Really looking forward to warmer weather for it, it seems just such an easy dress and the shape makes it very easy to wear.

Qweesh · 01/03/2024 16:41

I had the yellow poplin parachute dress but I sold it on Vinted because it was an utter sod to iron. At least linen and seersucker look alright a bit crinkled.

Countmeout · 01/03/2024 16:59

Has another thought. The tala is poplin. I’ve washed it fine too, I love that dress.it’s not a crinkle, but heavier than the sleeveless top. Maybe if they have a pattern they’re easier.

OP posts:
FitzLea · 01/03/2024 17:08

Oh gosh @ScottishMouse I’m absolutely terrible at the re-stretch after washing - I tried it a few times with jersey cotton and I never ever managed to get the original length and shape back.

It does seem like it maybe depends on the garment @Qweesh @Countmeout? The cut of the stripe cotton dress is just so unusual and does seem really easy to wear, but I’m wondering whether I should take the risk. Does it specifically need an iron, or would steaming also work?

Qweesh · 01/03/2024 17:32

@FitzLea yes I think it does and perhaps the weight of the poplin too. I ordered that dress in Woad and it felt different to the parachute dress, definitely a heavier poplin. I returned it and have been kicking myself ever since.
