We haven't long moved into our home and i desperately need a vanity area. I have so much stuff in boxes (hair strangers, curlers, makeup perfume etc) that I don't want to leave lying around as I have small children. And DP would also like a bit of space to trim his beard and shave his head 😂 his words not mines.

I don't have a massive amounts of space. So I was looking for some inspiration for our bedroom.

Thanks!

This is mine - new addition but loving it. The storage in the drawers is epic! Not sure why it's sideways, but anyway.... There's LED strips down the sides of the wardrobes plus the mirror lights. Hairdryer etc will be going under the table top once the holder arrives and is attached to the side of the drawers.

I've never heard of a vanity area.

Is this a dressing table?

aaaaabbb · 02/02/2024 20:44

Amazing ideas!

LakieLady · 03/02/2024 07:54

I do my make-up in the bathroom, as that's where the light is best. It all goes in the drawers of the unit the basin is in, along with my skincare stuff, spare bog rolls, shampoo, shower gel etc.

I dry my hair standing at the long wall mirror in my bedroom, and when I had a bob that needed straightening, I'd put the straighteners and heat mat on the window ledge.

Which is all a bit ridiculous, as I have a large Edwardian dressing table with triple mirrors and 4 big drawers in the bedroom, too, but the only place it fits is in an alcove with really bad light!

justasking111 · 03/02/2024 09:27

I have a lamp on my dressing table and a free standing round mirror. The x7 side for close up tweezing work. Keep hairdryer and tongs in a basket underneath.

Such a good thread. I am hoping to use this area beneath my window as a makeup area but I can't find a stool tall enough, plus not sure it looks right. I don't want a bar stool but the radiator's there so..think I will have to do something else...

CumbersomeRobes · 03/02/2024 11:11

Oh my goodness I've loved looking at all these ideas. So much prettiness!

I'd never need one for myself as I don't dry/straighten my hair and I avoid looking in the mirror as much as possible. My teen dd is in the middle of making a mood board for the one she wants so I'll show her this thread.

I'd get a carpenter in to design one including the stool. See if the radiator can be moved as well.

@XelaM where did you get your mirror from?

LizzieBennetsBonnet · 03/02/2024 13:33

I have an IKEA malm drawer unit and use the top drawer for all my hair and makeup bits (I hate having stuff out on the top). I have a chair next to it but rarely sit in it so it's mostly decoration/ somewhere to chuck clothes on!

I have this but in a dark stain.

https://pavementvintage.co.uk/classic-habitat-solid-oak-hana-console-table/

I have a basket underneath for my hair dryer, straightener etc.

There a lamp on the left and a vase on the right.

I have this chair. https://www.heals.com/lou-lou-ghost.html?ps=MzM0PTI1MzM=&gadsource=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7ZrZp6ePhAMV9ZZQBh2mQgDrEAQYASABEgLMnPDDBwE#334=2533&utmsource=google&utmmmedium=cpc&keyword=&ftcategory=brandshopping

Which I definitely sit on to dry my hair.

Gowlbag · 03/02/2024 14:50

I have this from IKEA. I use the Alex drawers for all my stuff and the drawer in the dressing table for palettes and flat stuff. I absolutely love having a place for everything after years of doing my makeup sitting on my bed with a handheld mirror.

No photo but my "vanity" arrangement is one of those hanging shoe organisers in my wardrobe and I use the mirror next to the wardrobe to do hair and makeup and see how gorgeous I am. No fancy light bulbs as natural light is best (for me) oh and I do everything standing up. Ooh missus!

Love all these, lots of options for range of spaces! I have this corner of the room with the end of the TV sideboard unit, so I sit on the bed for hair and stand for makeup with the lit mirror. Hairdryer and brushes in cheap utensil holders! Use my Nana's old crystal sweetie and serving dishes for frequent use jewellery and makeup! Extra bits in the small corner unit and sideboard. So very much my corner at least!

@NewYear24 do you have this same one as on your picture and has it been a good purchase? I have been considering getting one for DD's birthday.. There are so many options on Amazon and wasn't sure which one to go for

NewYear24 · 03/02/2024 20:34

nice2BeNice

Yes it looks identical to mine although I bought mine about 9 years ago for around £120. It takes up hardly any space and is really good if you have lots of necklaces and other jewellery. I use one of the shelves for all my nail polish. It isn’t really deeper than a normal full length mirror and you could move it around the room.

justasking111 · 03/02/2024 20:47

Just checking our local market place on FB there are some lovely shaped dressing tables out there, some free some just begging for a makeover.

bananafishbones1 · 03/02/2024 23:18

I have this in a little gap between my wardrobe and window. I put the mirror higher than this and added a little shelf below the mirror.

@Happilyobtuse
That is beautiful.

Tenderisthecabbage · 04/02/2024 00:05

I was intrigued to know what the euphemism 'vanity area' meant too! Bit disappointed 🤣 some lovely dressing tables though

Zonder · 03/02/2024 13:07

@XelaM where did you get your mirror from?

I believe I got it off Wowcher - it was a Christmas gift for my daughter the Christmas before last. I will try to find it and post a link.

Rummikub · 04/02/2024 01:10

@bananafishbones1 I love this The drawers look lovely.

NeedWineNow · 04/02/2024 09:11

I sit down to dry my hair as well! Loving all these ideas. I've got my vanity area in our small back bedroom. I use our old console unit which has two drawers and two shelves which is okay, but I'd like a proper dressing table where I can tuck the chair underneath. Some great inspiration on this thread.
