We haven't long moved into our home and i desperately need a vanity area. I have so much stuff in boxes (hair strangers, curlers, makeup perfume etc) that I don't want to leave lying around as I have small children. And DP would also like a bit of space to trim his beard and shave his head 😂 his words not mines.

I don't have a massive amounts of space. So I was looking for some inspiration for our bedroom.

Thanks!

My daughter also has this turning stand on her dressing table which holds her creams/perfume/make-up etc. It's quite practical.

Where is this rotating stand from please! I love it!

I don’t know how people manage without a dressing table. It should be standard in all homes! It’s just such a lovely place to be. And you can use the chair as a mini wardrobe…

I love this, is it sturdy and good quality @FanofBusted ?

I also blow dry my hair at my dressing table.

And me…

I have an old fashioned writing bureau with has been painted and restored in bright teal and pink. It has loads of storage and everything is hidden away when you are done. Bought it in Etsy, I love it!

Rummikub · 31/01/2024 22:54

Some great ideas. I was looking at the 6 drawer malm from IKEA with a lift up mirror.

I really like that mirror storage from the range. But I’d want to keep my hair dryer and straighteners handy too.

I also like the narrow wicker drawers under the dressing table pp posted. Such a good simple idea.

I don’t really have room for one in our bedroom without causing a bit of a snug shimmying by type of situation!
my office is next door and in theory I could put one in there but actually I just stand up and use my mirrored wardrobe drawers to put my makeup on when I’m making an effort (rare plus it still only takes me 5 minutes max) and blow dry and straighten my hair sitting on my bed - I’ve leaned to make do without essentially!

I have something a bit different - a computer desk a bit like this although mine has twin pedestals. I’m able to have my hair dryer plugged in to an extension socket inside the cupboard since it has vents in the back (for the computer/printer) and everything is tidied away without wires being visible when I’m not using it. I keep makeup in the drawers and I’ve bought a jewellery compartment tray for the keyboard drawer. I have a 10x magnifying mirror on top to frighten myself 😳

I don’t use straighteners, but I’d investigate heatproof materials to line the shelves if I did.

Currently I have a narrow drawer in the top of my chest of drawers. I’ve put £1 cutlery trays in to organise my make up. Then I sit on the floor in front of mirror and do my make up. Well that’s what I used to do. Now it’s put concealer and mascara on in the car. But I’d like a dedicated space to include make up and meds.

Moier · 31/01/2024 23:41

I have the wardrobes and drawers too.

I have a dressing table from the Cotswold Company, with the matching mirror and stool.

I use the top 2 drawers in a chest to store my bits and pieces, so they can be closed and out the way when not needed. Plugs are installed next to the chest of drawers for hair dryer, straighteners etc.

I ordered one from Amazon (so not quite the on pictured) and yes it is very sturdy. You can get ones with lights around the mirror too- handy for doing your make up. I love mine. It has a holder for my hair dryer too!

I haven’t got lots of space but have just bought this small mahogany antique table, mainly because I have a mahogany dressing table mirror and stand bought years ago. Just need to get a chair now!

@TheOGCCL I love that pic especially the little glass box shelves, did you do any shelves? Cutlery trays are also a great idea. I am thinking about how to do a built in at the moment and trying to make space for a stool but drawers would also be helpful. If you like antique furniture dressing table cabinets are very common in auctions and you can find some beautiful ones for not a lot of money so maybe consider that. A lot can be done with paint and filler….

I also have this, it's survived a few house moves. Reasonable quality.

I have something similar. All my make up, hairdryer, hairbrushes, perfumes etc are in the drawers. I just have tissues, the mirror and a jewellery box out (I like clear calm spaces). I sit down to dry my hair, too!

I also blow dry my hair at my dressing table.

Me too

BananaSpanner · 01/02/2024 06:58

My mum had a proper dressing table and always sat down to blow dry her hair. She was single though so her bedroom was her own. My DH will insist on having some drawers of his own meaning no dressing table for me. The cheek of it, bloody men.

UpToonGirl · 01/02/2024 07:13

I got a dressing table a few years ago, I rarely use it. I either stand behind the chair to blow dry my hair and sit for straightening or I sit on my bed. Makeup I like to do in my bathroom.

We're switching things up soon and I'm ditching the dressing table for a standing height mirror inside of a wardrobe with drawers underneath.

What I'm saying is maybe get a cheaper dressing table first rather than splashing out, just in case! Mine was only about 30 quid from fb but I had been looking at ones ten times that price which I'm pleased I didn't go for.

BitchyHen · 01/02/2024 07:16

This is mine - excuse the mess
The dressing table was bought for £15 from a second hand shop with money from my 18th birthday. For years I had a mirror fixed to the wall behind it before my mum found the mirror in an antique shop.
The basket underneath is for hairdryer, straighteners and an extension lead.
I also share with my daughters who have their own space but prefer to be in mine!
