Everyday bag for under £2k

It’s my 30th and I’d like a nice everyday bag. Thinking something along the lines of a Mulberry Lily in brown or black with gold hardware but open to other suggestions. I want something classic and easy to throw on as often rushing around after young children! Big enough to put my phone, keys and a lipstick/small perfume.

Suggestions please!

OP do you like Saint Laurent? I have a Lou Lou puffer in an amazing sage green colour that’s just the perfect neutral. They also come in black or a couple of tan shades. Everyone I know who owns a puffer loves it.

saint laurent also do good every day totes in all colours. Or go and get a good second hand bottega tote - good value right now and timeless. (I got mine from a second hand shop in Hong Kong in 2007 but unlike a PP won’t suggest you go back in time and replicate that 😂).

happy birthday and congrats on your new baby!

isthatmyage · 30/01/2024 21:23

OP could not agree with you more re Mulberry's....excellent quality and last for years but more importantly remain (mostly) a classic look. I have a 15 year old bayswater used daily for laptop etc. and looks good as new. I have....errr....too many a lovely collection of Mulberry's.....can recommend Amberley and Anthony re good everyday with a bit of room, Darley and Lily both excellent but chain maybe limiting all day/kid friendly. Millie totes are all great. I could go on 😂good luck and enjoy looking xx

No it is not a typo...some of us love and can afford expensive bags.
OP is treating herself for a special birthday.

It's still obscene to spend that on a handbag.

I can afford one. I won't have one though. Or a pricey car, or expensive jewellery or any other status symbol that's a lavish waste of money purely for ego.

Buy a good quality bag and give the rest of the money to charity. I'm not saying do without, I'm saying that spending that kind of money on a complete frivolity is pretty tasteless when people are struggling to eat.

Or get one made by a local leather worker. It will still cost less, provide local employment and be unique.

Imagine how that money could help a woman fleeing domestic violence.

Set up a charity direct debit and spend sometime imagining the good it's doing.

Share your privilege. In the long run, it will be a much more meaningful gift to yourself. Far better for the soul than a trinket.

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 30/01/2024 21:51

I don’t think that all those people poo-pooing the OP’s budget quite understand that these pieces are an investment. They’re not a waste of money, the bag will retain most of its value and in some cases, as already proven, will increase in value. They’re not fast fashion supermarket bags that get chucked when they’re worn out. They’re looked after and kept in dust bags and boxes when not in use.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 30/01/2024 22:04

@Panterus please stop with the sanctimonious preachy bollocks. Why don't you run along now and hide style & beauty.

Fuck me, are we not allowed any joy?

Sanctimonious BS.

Do you donate all your disposal income to charity? I donate to charity as well as buy expensive handbags.

In your opinion, what is OP allowed to spend her money on when people she doesn’t know are struggling to eat?

Why do you consider a handbag to be a status symbol purely for ego? Why can’t it just be wanting to own and use something you find beautiful?

And lastly, these bags are not a waste of money. All the bags mentioned in this thread hold their value and many even increase in value. They are a better investment than a car, a holiday, a TV, an iPhone, or any other item that I’m sure you have purchased yourself over the years.

Pookerrod · 30/01/2024 22:17

Is it just me? How many people on this thread have effectively cost themselves £2k by swooning over PP’s recommendations?

I think I’m going to have to invest in a Chloe Marcie Bucket Bag. It wasn’t even on my radar before today but I’ve been onto the net-a-porter website more times than I care to admit to gaze at it this evening. Thanks @Noeliasantana !

@Panterus Did you polish your halo at the same time as typing your sanctimonious smug post? Why did you feel the need to comment at all? Just jog on and leave this thread to the rest of us who want a little joy in this world.

I feel like we all need to go and spend £2k just to piss off the superior do-gooders.

I give money to charity, the two are not mutually exclusive. I'll continue to spend and donate my money as I see fit. I've worked hard to get to where I am today and if I want to buy nice things for myself then that's my choice.

I hope you are living a Buddhist monk style existence or otherwise it's a bit pot and kettle. So no holidays, snacks, alcohol or anything else that's frivolous. I mean do you really need a mattress when you could sleep on the floor and give the money to charity?

My go to bag is a LV crossbody that I got eons ago, and is super handy just to grab and go.
Other than that I use my neverfull, but it does tend to get heavy as we all put stuff in it!
Had an Alexa, but it also was heavy so stopped using it so much!

Lamaitresse · 30/01/2024 22:38

PS I agree with previous posters re the Lily - defo an evening or special occasion bag.

I'm tempted, and I don't even like bags.

Bandwaggon · 30/01/2024 22:55

The older I get, the more happy I am with the (fairly few) expensive handbags I've bought over the years.

They really do just keep on giving. One is 25 years old now and still beautiful. My only regret is not buying more of them. And (unlike clothes) I never get too big for them...

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 30/01/2024 23:14

Two grand for an every day bag?
Lucky you .

TheStuffalo · 30/01/2024 23:20

I have a Lily and it's way too heavy for an everyday bag. Haven't used it in ages.

Noeliasantana · 30/01/2024 23:20

so funny! I can’t believe they own a pc or mobile phone when they could be donating that money to charity! Come on!
some people would always find a way of making others feel bad about the way the live their lives even if it doesn’t affect them in any way. I have had a good laugh though!

hopefully I can mark a few out.

Gaaah im hovering over the pink one in the JL sale... is it heavy heavy?

I love the Marcie by Chloé, so timeless but easygoing and it has a long strap for across the body,

https://www.net-a-porter.com/en-gb/shop/product/chloe/bags/drawstring/plus-net-sustain-marcie-two-tone-textured-leather-bucket-bag/1647597310170439

I love the Amberley satchel, but I think the Lily is gorgeous too!

https://www.mulberry.com/es/shop/women/bags/small-amberley-satchel-oak-small-classic-grain

OP get the Marcie from Chole. So beautiful and classic and would work as a bag to shove some nappys in and for work/everyday.

For the neverfull...I can't recommend. I did get one for my last baby and hated it. Things got lost in the bag and the straps were so thin that it would hurt my back. I got tired of the in your face design too and everyone has one now so I didn't feel unique with it.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 29/01/2024 20:17

You know you could just scroll past? Some people do have £2k to spend on a bag.

And some of us wouldn't spend that much money if we did have it! Actually, I do have it.

The amount spent on a bag doesn't make it a superior bag - but if people are silly enough to want to spend so much on an ugly bag just for a "label" then more fool them.

Knackerednursey · 31/01/2024 02:07

I’m gobsmacked too, I need a car for under £2k 🤣

ithinkthatmaybeimdreaming · 31/01/2024 02:10

Sorry all, please ignore my post at 14:45 - it was mean spirited and I really don't know what came over me.
