knickers (now that M&S's are shit)

I thought I'd found the holy-grai of knickers with the M&S flexifit shorts (high and low waisted). But they have gone baggy after just over a year and at that price (£16 for 3 pairs) I'm not willing to shell out for more.

Can anyone recommend an alternative? I like the shape of the M&S 'shorts' style and I'm all about comfort over style. I'm willing to pay a bit more for pants that will actually last longer than 15 months...

😂

Alas, they also lose their elasticity after a while!

BenjaminBunnyRabbit · 08/01/2024 23:05

John Lewis are always good.

Tremblingmadness · 08/01/2024 23:08

Can all the Sloggi converts advise;

  • are they true to size or do I need to size up
  • which shape is best

I am overwhelmed by the choice on their website

Toptotoe · 08/01/2024 23:16

Anyday from Waitrose or John Lewis are my favourite. I have also tried Wrap after reading about them here and have found them really comfortable.

I like the standard briefs (basic + midi) in cotton not microfiber, the cotton is less robust but I prefer them. As for sizing, I wear a 10 in clothes but prefer the pants in 12. I used to be bigger and found I had to size down rather than up though so I think there maybe isn't a huge gap between the sizes?

KeeeeeepDancing · 09/01/2024 00:18

I have m&s pants still going from 1999. Possibly 1998. Egyptian cotton, no Lycra. Amazing pants.

Obimumkinobi · 09/01/2024 00:58

Another firm vote for Innersey. Quality is amazing - no baggy legs or loose threads after a year +. Wide range of colours + period pants.

Stressybetty · 09/01/2024 01:43

Another vote for Wirarpa boxers amzn.eu/d/4JQhWw2. These have converted me from 10+ years of wearing thongs! Also wear their high waist knickers in bed.

I’ve tried them, not for me! The fabric is so thick it’s like wearing a recycled duvet on your crotch 😂. I want gossamer fabrics with stretch.

l buy 2 pairs of matching knix when l buy a new bra and supplement with M&S Brazilians, plus a few pairs of Rosie. All very comfy and wash well; l don’t tumble dry and avoid highest soin speeds.

Nottogetapenny · 09/01/2024 10:06

Sloggi microfibre, lightweight, slightly stretchy 24/7 so comfortable, and true to size.

I do NOT recommend Stripe and Stare...I bought maybe 10 or 12 pairs a year ago (which cost a small fortune). At first I really liked them, but within a few months the material started to degrade - the colours are extremely faded so that they look about 15 years old; some pairs seemed to shrink and now give me wedgies; others seemed to become baggy and start falling down as I wear them, so that I have to go after them and hoik them back up every 15 minutes all bleeping day.

I have just ordered some Innersy off the back of this thread, am keeping my fingers crossed that they are the answer to my prayers... and am sincerely looking forward to binning my Stripe and Stare knickers!!

This was my experience too

tomatoontoast · 09/01/2024 10:56

I bought Sainsbury's knickers and they're amazing..10/10 and £6 for a pack of 5.

I'm a knocker connisoir so quite hard to please.

LBOCS2 · 09/01/2024 10:58

For standard knicker shaped knickers I really rate the John Lewis Anyday range. £12 for 5 pairs, decent thickness cotton, good quality elastic. They last well and don't go all thready with bits of elastic hanging off.

SirChenjins · 09/01/2024 10:59

Sainsbury’s. My generous arse has tried many knickers over the years - these are really good & reasonably priced

CharlotteRumpling · 09/01/2024 11:02

To make things more difficult I like wearing matching bra and knickers, mostly in black, blue or deep pink. But reasonably priced ones with good knickers with proper gussets very hard to find.

FluffActually · 08/01/2024 14:40

Sloggi are a bit more expensive but look to last until the apocalypse

Yes and no, they stop fitting well quite quickly and are then apt to start falling down inside your jeans.

I bought a few pairs from M and S in different styles to see what worked. The high leg type ones were uncomfortable with my Caesarian scar.

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 09/01/2024 11:08

I just buy plain black bikini briefs. Asda and sainsburys are good. Stay black and don't lose their stretch

FluffActually · 09/01/2024 12:55

@New2024 not true for me or I guess many others recommending Sloggi on this thread! I have pairs that are old enough for school, still perfect 😅

Flockameanie · 09/01/2024 17:25

Thank you all for all the recommendations. Knew I could rely on MNers to be similarly invested in the importance of a quality pair of comfy pants

Are they quite high waisted? I like the look of those

listsandbudgets · 09/01/2024 18:33

Sloggis. I bought new ones when i got my first job in 1999. I put them on the other day and noticed there was a little hole!! I suppose I should be forgiving after nearly a quarter of a century but strongly considering returning them😂
