@OftenOrange how do you find the sizing on the cord shirt? There was only a 10 in stock which might be a bit hopeful.

OftenOrange · 17/01/2024 21:27

It’s quite generous sizing , and long .

Much as I love the Bloomsbury vibe of Toast and am attracted to those pieces with echoes of it, I find the recent Instagram posts of the new a line dress/ waistcoat worn over a very Edwardian style cream skirt and with the ditto cream poplin shirt to be a step too far.
It looks like a costume rather than clothing to me .

I have to agree @OftenOrange . Bloomsbury was my first thought for the styling. I can’t see myself popping down to the post office in it.

And I love Virginia Woolf.

@ScottishMouse - the 10 in the cord shirt fits me, if that’s any help.

Dee1224 · 17/01/2024 22:44

@Stoic123 - I think the Furle is my favourite of the large baubles, although I like the red allium too.

@faustina - I am impressed by your loft finds - they seem lovely- would like to see pictures! I am also impressed that you can still wear them. (I showed my sons some of the teeny tiny skirts I was wearing back when I met my DH, that I had kept for nostalgic reasons and they didn’t believe they were mine - very sad😿!)

I am absolutely not buying anything else for the moment. I was so good at the beginning of the sale, but seem to have gathered momentum and have a few things coming before I have had my refunds, (something I always swear I will not do, but keep doing anyway 🙀)

AFingerofFudge · 18/01/2024 08:25

@Dee1224 I am in the same camp as you on the orders. I did order quite a lot at the beginning but sent most of it back. However now I've made a few orders of one item that pops back on the website. And I've bought all the baubles Grin

Snowyowl78 · 18/01/2024 09:04

im getting that new olive crinkle dress tomorrow by the looks of it! Said it wasn’t coming until the 26th but seems it’s coming early! I was talking on chat with someone and I think I deciphered that there would also be a matching jumpsuit in 2 weeks (although the conversation was a bit jumbled so I’m not 100%!!).

Snowyowl78 · 18/01/2024 11:01

It’s actually just come in the post! It is lovely. Although I might have to try and large as it’s a bit smaller than it’s jersey counterparts! It’s a keeper though

Nanasueathome · 18/01/2024 11:27

Another one of my orders has been reduced by £15
Ive been on Tost chat and they’ve refunded the difference again
Im on a roll now

ScottishMouse · 18/01/2024 11:38

I am very interested in that dress @Snowyowl78, so good to know about sizing. I have the jersey one in M, so also might need to try L.

Snowyowl78 · 18/01/2024 11:39

@ScottishMouse im not sure if it’s because it’s crinkled?? It’s quite stretchy but then bounces back. I’m going to try the large anyway as I also fear a bit of shrinkage in the wash, I am pretty sure the black one has shrank a bit

sonjadog · 18/01/2024 11:51

I have ordered up by final sale item, which is a scarf. I have liked it since I first saw it but I don't really need more scarves so have kept putting it off. But the sale price has made it seem more reasonable. I wish they showed in on someone or spread out. I think sometimes Toast photos are really bad at showing what their items look like.

ScottishMouse · 18/01/2024 11:52

Yes, better to err on the size of too big than too small usually @Snowyowl78 I have one of the crinkle pinafores and it is snug on the bust so that section is now less crinkly than the rest. I’d rather that not happen if I bought another crinkly item, so I’ll maybe try an L at some point when my credit card has recovered from its sale battering.

Snowyowl78 · 18/01/2024 12:45

@ScottishMouse hadnt thought of that! I think I’ll definately be better with the large

MrsRadichio · 18/01/2024 13:56

@Dee1224 and @AFingerofFudge I was coming on to say the same....there is something about these long sales that wears away at my self control - I started by just buying the few items I had my eye on for a while but now I have just made a few big orders 'just to try'. I really hate doing this for the environmental cost of sending back as well as the hassle of it all. Feeling quite annoyed with myself and lack of will power.

And there is another whole week of the sale if it does indeed end on the 25th. Not sure I can cope!!

faustina · 18/01/2024 14:15

@MrsRadichio - it isn't great for the environment is it, but I think I've had most of what I've ordered on my very long list of things I wanted to try, and they've gone in and out of stock so it wasn't possible to order everything at once (also would have been quite ruinous!). The only real impulse purchases have been home ones

My final (I hope) orders have just been despatched. Hopefully they will arrive sooner and not get lost

@Dee1224 - luckily I've always liked oversized, so I think it all still fits. Here are some pics, especially the pretty buttons! - if anyone knows what this type of cardigan is called I'd be really interested to know

I’m trying to step back from the sale now. I have really spent up to my budget on items I either needed or knew would be well used. I think I bought more sensibly as I returned far less than in the summer sale, although there have been a couple of pieces that haven’t worked out for me.

However I can’t help looking through the sale every day in case there has been a return of something that I might need. I shall be glad when it’s over .

Dee1224 · 18/01/2024 14:42

Thanks for sharing @faustina. Maybe you could post pictures of your jumper on one of the Icelandic forums or in Shopping. I know there is at least one Icelandic thread as I started following it at one point for some reason.

@MrsRadichio I hate returning stuff - I feel guilty about the environment and I do wish Toast would have sale stock in store. I know not everyone has access to a shop, but it would help, (as would standardising their sizes!)

I think us bauble fanciers need to start a support group @AFingerofFudge 😹

sonjadog · 18/01/2024 15:01

Those types of cardigans are very common in Norway, called "kofte". To me the one in your photo looks more like a Norwegian one than an Icelandic one. Icelandic have a different pattern and use thicker wool (or at least the traditional ones do). The home-knitted ones I think are often better than the shop bought ones. Here is a Norwegian selling site for them so you can get an idea about different types: https://www.finn.no/bap/forsale/search.html?q=kofte

Lovely knitwear @sonjadog !

applecatchers36 · 18/01/2024 17:49

Loving the Norwegian/Icelandic knitwear..that cardigan is a total find Faustina and so on trend atm...

Snowyowl78 · 18/01/2024 18:44

Anyone watch the Live? They showed that dress as a waistcoat again! I prefer it as a dress!
i wanted to see the slouchy tanks (navy and lilac) but they didn’t come up
i did warm to the v neck twill jumpsuit though to I might be tempted to try it, the lady wearing it looked really good in it.
I wonder if it does emphasise one’s boobs somewhat though!

Countmeout · 18/01/2024 19:30

I thought there was quite a bit of repetition from the Kindred live @Snowyowl78 .
I agree the jumpsuit looked really well. I think it fitted her well.
I like the orange/red twill dress but I think it maybe a bit shiny. It’s the same shape as the poplin one which hangs really well.
Someone asked if the hood of the anorak comes off but I don’t think they answered her question.

Thank you very much @sonjadog, also @Dee1224 and @applecatchers36 . There are some beautiful pieces on that site - Icelandic was just a wild guess! They were a thing in the seventies, I think US thrift store inspired? Flip was the most wonderful treasure trove - rails and rails of beautiful vintage things. I'm so glad my cardigan has survived its loft stay more or less intact. I also found a box of baby Oshkosh dungarees up there, a model of Tracey Island, a wearable Cyberman mask (I think it transformed your voice too) and a giant soft Obelix. It's nice when you get a box of memories you haven't opened for a while. Still picking bits of loft insulation off my carpet though 😁

I am off to look at the live now. I notice that the big dropped crotch corduroy pull-on trousers in dark grey are back in stock, so perhaps if I have no success with my sale orders I'll try them instead

Would like to go to a Circle event this weekend but as Cheltenham is still closed, I don't think I can travel all the way to Oxford to potentially find nothing to swap.
