Big restock overnight folks!

I managed to get hold of the alpaca buttoned tank and a very old season navy cord shirt. The shirt might be a size too small, but I have always regretted not trying it, so giving it a go.

After a slow start to the sale for me, this has got a bit out of control now. I need to be very diacernibg about whether I keep anything that is on its way to me.

ScottishMouse · 17/01/2024 07:31

There's a whole set of mini baubles @Dee1224 !!

Stoic123 · 17/01/2024 07:38

@ScottishMouse - came on to say the same.

The dress I have been stalking for returns came back into stock so pounced and nervously awaiting order confirmation. A size smaller than normal but it's loose fitting so hopeful. Also popped in a bauble in @Dee1224's honour.

No1Mousie · 17/01/2024 07:44

@PretLea it can stretch, I’d say more lengthways than horizontally if that makes sense. It does depend if there are other fibres in the yarn, that aren’t as giving as wool.

PretLea · 17/01/2024 08:13

Thanks @Dee1224 and @No1Mousie for jumper advice. It seems like it’s a cotton wool blend on that jumper, but it does sound like it’ll be risky a purchase for me as I am most concerned about the sleeves stretching lengthways.

Snowyowl78 · 17/01/2024 08:49

@ScottishMouse im wearing that right now! It’s lovely.

I got 3 pairs of socks. Must not shrink these ones. Does anyone have the grid check ones and have washed them in the machine? It says to hand wash but that’s a pain with socks. I feel the socks aren’t reduced enough and ought to be half price!

ScottishMouse · 17/01/2024 09:03

The cord shirt @Snowyowl78 ? What’s sizing like?

Dee1224 · 17/01/2024 09:31

Which one @Stoic123? They are so lovely!

I got the super cute mini baubles from SM @ScottishMouse - I can’t believe people keep returning them - they are beautiful. I had them on the tree this year, but they are very small, so maybe that’s why some don’t like them.

I bought the cord shirt with the tie neck , after regretting sending it back last year. It’s lovely. Size 10 fits in a slightly oversized way on me, so whatever size you have @ScottishMouse should be fine. I haven’t washed it yet and am hoping for no shrinkage.

@Snowyowl78 - I draw the line at handwashing socks. I have been putting mine in a net washing bag and wash at 30 and they’ve been fine so far.

Having woken at 4am and discovered the restock, I ordered the blue stripe shirt. Given that I ordered the thin cotton dress/nightie thing, a hat and another bauble yesterday, I really mustn’t buy anymore!

Snowyowl78 · 17/01/2024 09:51

@ScottishMouse ah sorry I meant the alpaca tank

faustina · 17/01/2024 09:58

I think we all thought of you when we saw the sweet little mini baubles @Dee1224

I have ordered the forward seam twill trousers and the fair isle jumper (though I'm not entirely sure that it isn't one I've already tried in a previous sale 😀)

There's an electrician in my loft and he's had to pass a few boxes down so he can do some work in there. I've found some real vintage treasures I'd forgotten about - a beautiful cardigan, I think Icelandic? With decorative buttons and a brilliant pattern which I bought from Flip in Covent Garden in the seventies (it was vintage then), and a pair of amazing denim dungarees from the same era bought at Slick Willies in Kensington High St. Miraculously no moth evidence, so will try them on later

ScottishMouse · 17/01/2024 11:00

No worries @Snowyowl78 , I have tried the tank already so know the size will work.

@Dee1224 I had the mini baubles on my tree this year too. I have also made a wee garland with them in the past. Very cute.

OftenOrange · 17/01/2024 12:01

@faustina How amazing to find those older pieces, it’s so on trend now and I’m sure they will bring back happy memories . They sound very Toast .
I wasn’t so lucky with a loft find , there was a red and white sheep jumper with one black sheep I loved back in 80s but the moths went to town. I would have tried to sell it , as Princess Diana wore a similar one it may have been collectible.

faustina · 17/01/2024 12:54

@OftenOrange - I think I read about those jumpers being resurrected recently! Such a shame about the moths getting at it

ScottishMouse · 17/01/2024 13:49

The padded linen cotton jacket and mohair fairisle jumper just arrived unexpectedly. I seem to have paid for next day delivery even though I didn’t intend to. That’s what you get when you are clicking between things and not paying attention.
Anyway…the jacket is a definite no. It is a little too padded, and so makes me look very wide. Plus the colour does me no favours at all.
The fairisle sweater is probably going back too. It is lovely and the colours are great on me. But it is just a smidge short and I think my boobs and the fairisle yoke don’t love each other either. I will try it with a few more things, but I think at that price it will have to go back.

MiracleToast · 17/01/2024 15:18

That’s a shame @ScottishMouse what was the sizing like of the padded jacket? I’d probably try it if it were to drop in price in a future sale.

ScottishMouse · 17/01/2024 15:22

@MiracleToast, I’d say it was closer to old sizing. I tried a M and it was roomy. I’m a 12.

MiracleToast · 17/01/2024 15:28

Thanks @ScottishMouse I can see how that roominess could not quite work on such a jacket.

Edited

I got the coral Furle that you have - to go with the olive one I bought earlier.

Stoic123 · 17/01/2024 17:37

They seem to clearing out the corners of the warehouse- lots of bits and bobs but nothing much covetable.

Snowyowl78 · 17/01/2024 17:59

The patchwork indigo jacket is back for anyone waiting, medium.

I do recommend this

Alpacasoft · 17/01/2024 19:13

My Selma dresses arrived and I am delighted to say they fit so nicely and are perfect summer shirtdresses.
The 10 is just the right ease with no pouffy skirt.
The fabric is gorgeous, crisp and rustley and length is mid calf.
Absolutely a summer weight, not heavy enough for A/W .
I ordered both colours thinking the brown/ cream would be to check the size in case the blue/ black was out of stock but I love it so keeping both.

faustina · 17/01/2024 20:44

I meant to ask - is anyone else being followed around on social media by a company called Yerffy which is very obviously dodgy? They have pictures of quite a few Toast jumpers - I mean they have literally pinched the photos from Toast. When you click on them they are acrylic/cotton mix and all silly prices - £20 - £30 - but they photos are identical to Toast's. Not going to link for obvious reasons. I've never seen fake Toast things before!

OftenOrange · 17/01/2024 21:00

@ScottishMouse I love the Alpaca tank , kept it for ‘best’ whatever that is these days, but with such cold weather have been wearing it non stop , so cosy and looks nice. I hope you will like it.
I also have the navy cord shirt with the tie neck , I need to get it out because it’s not seen much use, it’s a shape I don’t normally wear so need to get creative !

@faustina thanks for thé warning, that sounds ghastly.

OftenOrange · 17/01/2024 21:09

Much as I love the Bloomsbury vibe of Toast and am attracted to those pieces with echoes of it, I find the recent Instagram posts of the new a line dress/ waistcoat worn over a very Edwardian style cream skirt and with the ditto cream poplin shirt to be a step too far.
It looks like a costume rather than clothing to me .
