Foundation recommendations

I need to get some new foundation. I've been a Clinique girl most of my life but the glass bottles annoy me as it gets to the end and you have to wait like it's frigging ketchup to get any out.

I'm 44, decent ish skin. Freckles, occasional sensitivity around the chin. I'm on the pale and freckly side of normal.

A year or so Il Makiage was everywhere but I haven't heard much recently about it.

Any recommendations? I'm off to John Lewis in a couple of days.

I don’t think you can wrong with estee Lauder double wear. Lots of shades, easy to apply, buildable coverage and a bottle lasts me a long time.

feathermucker · 31/12/2023 15:23

I like Boots Hydraluminous foundation

punypower · 31/12/2023 22:03

Thanks both - will check those out.

Bobbi Brown skin foundation stick is my favourite. It’s buildable and really natural looking.

bakewellbride · 31/12/2023 22:06

I swear by rimmel kind and free skin tint

LoveSandbanks · 31/12/2023 22:12

I asked the same question in a Facebook group a couple of weeks ago. Someone recommended Jones Road. It’s a make up brand by the woman who founded Bobbi brown and geared towards more mature women. It’s fantastic.

Pollydollydoodle · 31/12/2023 22:14

Another vote for boots hydroluminous

leccybill · 31/12/2023 22:15

I'm 43 with average boring skin and I like Nars Sheer Glow. It lasts a long time (both on your face and in the bottle!)

I used to love Healthy Mix but Bourjois disappeared.

BabCNesbitt · 31/12/2023 22:17

Another vote for No 7 Hydraluminous.

Rina66 · 31/12/2023 22:20

I got the new Trinny BFF All Day for Christmas, I'm very impressed and I usually use Double Wear. It's thinner and more glowy than DW but still has good coverage without caking and good staying power too.

toomanyleggings · 31/12/2023 22:23

I’m a double wear girl. I gave il makiage a go but I had to put loads on to get decent coverage which I don’t have time for and it made my eyes water

TotallyFloored · 01/01/2024 00:04

Boots hydralumious is good. I love the erborian cc cream and am getting into skin tint/serum foundations. I like the saie one, plants are purple and also the sculpted by Aimee

Hels20 · 01/01/2024 01:13

Armani luminous silk…0

SideshowAuntSallyx · 01/01/2024 07:40

I used to use Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation until they decided in their wisdom to discontinue it so I'm currently using L'Oréal True Match, goes on nicely and doesn't irriate my sensitive skin. Also has lots of shades.

ruthieness · 01/01/2024 08:37

10 seconds in a microwave can help get stuff out of bottles!

LemonLimeDivine · 01/01/2024 08:43

I’ve always been a Clarins foundation girl but a few months back my local Boots didn’t have my shade so I grabbed some L’Oréal True Match foundation to tide me over. Really pleasantly surprised. Stays in place and makes me look a bit more ‘glowy’ in a subtle way. Had a couple of compliments from friends that my skin was looking really good.

punypower · 01/01/2024 13:57

@ruthieness I like the microwave tip!

Georgio Armani Luminous Silk. Great range of shades, medium to full coverage and doesn't settle in pores.

Britpopbaby · 01/01/2024 17:35

@leccybill Bourjois is back at Superdrug!
I like Chanel water teint foundation.

Sparkletastic · 01/01/2024 17:43

Erborian. It's in a tube and is the best.

Æthelfled · 01/01/2024 17:45

Another no7 fan

Hudders3 · 01/01/2024 17:55

I use a mix.
Another vote for estee Lauder double wear. Been recommended it many times over the years and only tried it earlier in 2023. It's brilliant. I only wear it when I'm going out all day long and want my make up to stay and look nice or for a night out etc.
Day to day I use IT Cosmetics CC Cream, it's also brilliant and just the right coverage for day to day. Easy to apply and long lasting. Been using it for about 8 years I think.

247SylviaPlath · 01/01/2024 17:55

Experian cc cream (paired with a good concealer if you need a bit more coverage for any areas)
Hydraluminous if you need more overall coverage

Honestly both of the above have upped my make up game significantly... just a more flattering finish (mid 40's)

dudsville · 01/01/2024 18:00

I liked ELDW but about 6 months ago I switched to their futurist hydra rescue, it has spf 45. I also bought the watery glow primer to go with it. I can wear this comfortably all day and it will looks great at the end of a long day. I'm in my 50s and have always had dry skin.
