I need to get some new foundation. I've been a Clinique girl most of my life but the glass bottles annoy me as it gets to the end and you have to wait like it's frigging ketchup to get any out.

I'm 44, decent ish skin. Freckles, occasional sensitivity around the chin. I'm on the pale and freckly side of normal.

A year or so Il Makiage was everywhere but I haven't heard much recently about it.

Any recommendations? I'm off to John Lewis in a couple of days.

I love the basic No.7 foundation - it’s light coverage, goes on well, sits well and lasts - it gives a lovely natural glow. I’ve got the hydra luminous too but prefer the basic one. I use a Rodial concealer for problem areas - a bit of extra base under the lights foundation finish

What exactly is the basic one?

NewYearNewPyjamas · 04/01/2024 18:00

@punypower great news! I'm overly excited to have received this update.

It's not caused me any skin issues at all.

I'm interested too, what is the basic one?

I'm 43 with average boring skin and I like Nars Sheer Glow. It lasts a long time (both on your face and in the bottle!)

I used to love Healthy Mix but Bourjois disappeared.

It's back now!

I swear by Doublewear, fantastic stuff.

Poplolly · 04/01/2024 23:17

Max factor
lasting performance
£12
it comes in a plastic flat ish tube, i cut the end off with scissors when i can’t squeeze any more. Lots of shades, lasts all day teamed with a L’Oréal primer (I have skin that turns oily)

Do you mean this one?

If so, I agree! It's fab. Goes on nicely, a little goes a long way with a brush, looks natural. Cool ivory is a perfect colour match for me.

Another vote for No7 hydraluminous. I've tried all the posh ones in glass bottles and this is better! And I cut the tube open to get the last bits at the end.

@leccybill Bourjois is back at Superdrug!
I like Chanel water teint foundation.

Yes, Chanel water tint. The one that comes in ‘light’ ‘medium light’ etc, not the one where the shades are called b23 b24 etc.

I use a mix.
Another vote for estee Lauder double wear. Been recommended it many times over the years and only tried it earlier in 2023. It's brilliant. I only wear it when I'm going out all day long and want my make up to stay and look nice or for a night out etc.
Day to day I use IT Cosmetics CC Cream, it's also brilliant and just the right coverage for day to day. Easy to apply and long lasting. Been using it for about 8 years I think.

This. x 100.

I love ❤️ IT Cosmetics CC cream. Applied with a clean, damp foundation sponge.

I have this foundaton in cool ivory, keep wondering whether to try a more expensive one but would it be worth it?

FestiveFruitloop · 06/01/2024 18:28

I love Estee Lauder Double Wear, although FWIW I've had equally good results from No. 7 serum foundation.

Infusedwithchamomileandmint · 06/01/2024 18:52

I found ELDW really flat.

I really like the formulations that double as a treatment cos I'm lazy and like the dewy look.

Max Factor Miracle pure ( Hyaluronic and Vit C) about £15- if skin needs a kick up the arse and am out and about

Erborian Super BB £41-my holy grail perfect formulation/ colour match, I get comments about my lovely skin with this - am old and haggard with veins, nice coverage if doing more of a face, for blemish prone skin which I don't have but seems to suit my skin.

Jones Road WTF £ 42- wear this if I'm at home so I don't scare the dogs or if Iook tired
Love this but it took a bit of getting used to as it feels tacky initially.
My skin drinks it up and feels/ looks lovely after about 30 mins
Get a sample on ebay as expensive if you don't like it
Ditto get samples of the miracle balm
Really natural finish

Darklane · 06/01/2024 19:06

I really like Boots No7 stick foundation. No messing about with bottles or tubes.

stayathomer · 06/01/2024 19:27

I use clarins bb cream. Adore it!

TroglodytesTroglodytes · 06/01/2024 21:53

I personally find the no7 essential one too light coverage, my skin has a tendency to be on the red side so I prefer the medium coverage foundations. I find the calico a really good colour match though. I like the no 7 beautifully matt in calico as I have oily skin and it’s better coverage. I was told when younger that my skin would stop being greasy/oily as I got older but at 45 that still hasn’t happened…..

kbg · 06/01/2024 22:07

Boots No7. Hydroluminous

It's really light weight but medium coverage and loads of shades (can colour match using skin scanner) and good price too

SueblueNZ · 07/01/2024 05:10

I am 67 and have worn long wear Matt foundations for years- Revlon colourstay for about 15 yes and ELDW for about 10 yrs. I recently accepted that the heavy coverage was mask like and doing me no favours.
About a month ago I switched to Estée Lauder futurist hydra rescue. This was a big leap as the texture is so different but it looks much more natural and fresher. It's easy to build coverage where I need it. I finish with a very light stipple of translucent powder.
I use exactly the same shade as I did with DW. It may be that there will come a time where I mix the two formulations to get coverage and some glow.
And futurist had spf 45 in it.

Sparkletastic · 01/01/2024 17:43

Erborian. It's in a tube and is the best.

I’ll second this for Erborian. I’ve used their BB cream (lovely and light but amazing coverage) and also their anti redness CC cream which can be used alone for a ‘no makeup’ look, or in addition to to the BB cream to help with rosacea. You can buy a smaller sample/travel size to try out.

stayathomer · 07/01/2024 07:37

Rushing back because I forgot Vichy Dermablend- it honestly looks like you’ve had your make up ‘done’- lovely shades (imo). I wear it with a primer though (Aimee Connolly moisturising primer as I have really dry skin). The dream is to try NARS foundation- I bought the radiant dreamy concealer with a voucher I got for Christmas and it really is stunning!
