Foundation recommendations

I need to get some new foundation. I've been a Clinique girl most of my life but the glass bottles annoy me as it gets to the end and you have to wait like it's frigging ketchup to get any out.

I'm 44, decent ish skin. Freckles, occasional sensitivity around the chin. I'm on the pale and freckly side of normal.

A year or so Il Makiage was everywhere but I haven't heard much recently about it.

Any recommendations? I'm off to John Lewis in a couple of days.

Armani luminous silk

Sumthingsweet · 01/01/2024 18:53

So I love Huda Nars and Le Mer also touch eclait foundation - love all the glowy ones

alsk have Mac Studio Fix

at the moment I bought Rimmel Raidiance foundation it’s so good and very good price - I really don’t want to wear my expensive ones every day for work .

for me dewy look is the way to go

Sumthingsweet · 01/01/2024 18:53

Armani is very good too ! Got expensive though

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 01/01/2024 19:26

@leccybill bourjois is back in superdrug - that’s my fave foundation too (I switched to the ordinary briefly but it’s discontinued now)

zelda10 · 01/01/2024 19:34

You can get Clinique foundation in plastic dispensers. They’re just the smaller size.

@punypower
what coverage and finish would you like

punypower · 01/01/2024 20:07

I don't know! I'd like it to last all day, and look natural. Other than that I'm not massively bothered.

I usually get it on offer at around £35 lasts at least six months

Orangello · 01/01/2024 20:33

I got the Armani Luminous Silk and hate it, thick mask like coverage, shows every pore and wrinkle. So get a sample first.
If you have good skin, try La Roche Posay Hydraphase BB cream.

Sumthingsweet · 01/01/2024 20:37

Sumthingsweet · 01/01/2024 20:39

Orangello I think it does depend on variables skin type age etc La roche sounds good

I think Op should go for a few samples and pick one

I don’t think you can wrong with estee Lauder double wear. Lots of shades, easy to apply, buildable coverage and a bottle lasts me a long time.

Agree with this

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 01/01/2024 20:44

@punypower EL DW is full matte coverage and in a glass bottle without a pump

if you like the Clinique one then just buy a beauty spatula

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Silicone-Spatula-Multifunctional-Perfect-Kitchen/dp/B0CKW4S6Y7/ref=mp_s_a_1_8_sspa?crid=2J1EGB72VCOYT&keywords=beauty+scoop&qid=1704141534&sprefix=beauty+scoop%2Caps%2C62&sr=8-8-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfbXRm&psc=1

Otherwise the following are great
NARS Light Reflecting Foundation
MAC Studio Radiance
Lancome Forever or Forever Glow depending on what you want
The bourjois one is nice if you can get a match
lLighter Coverage the L’Oréal skin tint is lovely too

They are glass but all have pumps

Don't laugh! I'm a similar age and skin tone/type to you. I use w7 in the shade buff. It's £4 on Amazon and it's better than any expensive foundation I've ever used - even Estée Lauder and the like. I apply with a beauty blender and then put a translucent powder on top. People comment on how good it looks all the time.

Which one do you use? There look to be a few on the W7 website. I use ELDW but am always interested in cheaper alternatives.

Same here, it showed my every pore and it caked and I've got combination skin, it's not like my skin was dry or anything.

YSL Touch Eclat not good either, really thin formula and coverage is too light.

I tried Bourjois Healthy Mix in the past and I didn't like it.

I wore Clinique for quite some time but most if not all of their foundations have salicylic acid and my skin is sensitive and reactive, if I wasn't wearing foundation every day it was fine but every day my skin would react.

I wear IT Cosmetics CC cream now and it's good enough. It's good good coverage (medium to full) and it doesn't trigger my dermatitis.

Foundation is my holy grail so I'll be forever searching for the perfect match and one brand I keep coming back to it is Lancôme, to me they're the best foundations I've ever wore. They discontinued my favourite formula ever Teint Visionnaire, but I think I'm going back to Teint Idole when the IT CC finishes.

And please, do not heat foundation or any other makeup in the microwave, not even for once second. You can leave on top of a radiator for a few moments at a push but if it's finished, it's finished, write it off and move on

DanceMumTaxi · 01/01/2024 20:57

I also really don’t like the Armani foundation either. Did nothing for me at all, also couldn’t get a very good colour match either. I’m so pleased I got a sample before spending £££ on a foundation I wouldn’t use.

NewYearNewPyjamas · 01/01/2024 21:37

@Anjelika would help wouldn't it!

W7 HD Foundation - Oil-Free Liquid Foundation for Poreless, Matte Medium Coverage - 30ml (Buff) amzn.eu/d/0kT0gCg

It's in Tesco for £5 or here for £4

I've tried their others and they were touch and go, sometimes great and sometimes not. This works all of the time!

BusterGonad · 02/01/2024 10:27

I've been really getting into No7 lately. I purchased their hydraluminous foundation and matching concealer and was so impressed, it was on offer, I then went on to buy the lift and luminate foundation. I have the perfect shade match, it doesn't cling to dry skin and it looks natural. Now I must add I have been using the No7 protect and perfect chemical exfoliating micellar water so that could be why my skin is looking so good and why it goes on so smoothly. I am also pale with freckles.

Just as an update, for a £4 punt I ordered this and am impressed so far. Coverage is good, and it's lasted all day without primer. I will report back if it turns my skin green or I break out in pustules...

Thanks all!

I am really loving boots hydraluminous at the moment

Festivalmitch · 04/01/2024 17:05

I love the basic No.7 foundation - it’s light coverage, goes on well, sits well and lasts - it gives a lovely natural glow. I’ve got the hydra luminous too but prefer the basic one. I use a Rodial concealer for problem areas - a bit of extra base under the lights foundation finish
