Make me look less shite

Help - just as the thread says how do I look less looney and shite?

I need to lose weight. I'm on it. I'll be 41 in a couple of weeks and feel it. My hair is always in a bun and very grey at top but too dark at the bottom. My face looks spongy. I look just a bit crap. Name changed for this but give me recommendations on what you would do if you were me.

I'm scared of going short with my hair as it's curly and don't know how to control t 🙈

You look lovely to me! I'd recommend eyebrow tinting and something for under eyes x

bravotango · 26/12/2023 22:00

You don't look nearly 41 at all, you look younger than me and I'm 31 Grin

Newnameag · 26/12/2023 22:01

You look lovely and not at all how your describe! The older I get the more I think eyebrows are actually the key so brows and maybe lash extensions? Your eyes can really transform your whole face!

Pizdietz · 26/12/2023 22:03

I'm sorry this isn't much help OP, but you're absolutely gorgeous as you are. I know people always say that sort of thing on MN, but I'm not bullshitting you. Don't spoil it trying to match current trends. You're a natural beauty, relax, enjoy!!!

Changingplace · 26/12/2023 22:03

I think you look great and have lovely skin :)

You could get your eyebrows waxed & tinted, always makes me feel instantly more groomed.

I like beautypie undereye luminous, that and some mascara with your brows done maybe?

Nothingbuttheglory · 26/12/2023 22:04

Wtf you look beautiful you muppet.

Maybe get your eyesight checked?

BeethovenNinth · 26/12/2023 22:04

I opened the photo to cheer myself up as I feel dowdy.

you are bloody gorgeous and look fabulous as you are!!!! Thanks for making me feel worse 😆

whatcanidohelp · 26/12/2023 22:05

Thank you! I've had quite deep under eye grooves for quite some time but bit scared to fiddle with there, what can I do? any make up recommendations welcome!

I just feel I have lost my way and who I am in since Covid and this time of year always brings it back to me that I'm getting older. This year especially has been a bit tough so 2024 I want to refocus on myself and make the best of what I have Smile

You’re so pretty!! I’m currently having my dark box dye slowly highlighted over by my hair dresser. It’s taken 3 appointments so far and will probably take another 2 to get there but the idea is with lots of blonde highlights it will blend the grey.

thelengthspeoplegoto · 26/12/2023 22:07

You are really pretty and have lovely features.
My hair was always in a bun, it was too long. I've had it cut a bit shorter, it's kind of below my chin and has natural waves. It feels easier to manage.
Treat yourself to a hairdo. Facially you have nothing to worry about, you're gorgeous x

tomatoontoast · 26/12/2023 22:08

If I were you, I would dye my hair a chocolate brown, get my eyebrows tinted and shaped and remove the nose piercing.

Buy yourself a Revlon hot brush and learn how to give yourself an at home blow dry! Mascara makes a severe difference to everyone so I would try that too.

ThreeTescoBags · 26/12/2023 22:08

You have beautiful skin, lucky you!

Maybe try a keratin blow dry to tame the frizz. I had one and wear my hair down a lot more now as I can just brush it and it behaves itself now, before that it was always in a bun. I also have highlights and a colour close to my natural hair colour to blend the greys. Your eyebrows are a great shape but maybe consider dying them to make them stand out a bit?

I think you look lovely btw.

JMSA · 26/12/2023 22:08

Your facial features are fabulous but your hair needs work. Look into getting a keratin blow dry or similar, to reduce the frizz.

whatcanidohelp · 26/12/2023 22:08

Jesus wasn't actually expecting these comments. I'm not saying that. Iit's true. Thank you all. Like I said year has been crap. Looking after SC with mental health problems and elderly parents and I just feel tired with everything. Thank you

Still want to freshen up though haha! Hate my hair colour

Your hair could be darker and I agree with eyebrows and mascara. That’s all you need as you have lovely skin and you look young for your age!

semideponent · 26/12/2023 22:11

You are gorgeous. And I'd love to see you wearing colour.

Here's where I'm in the same boat - screwing my hair up in a bun. Seriously, it seems like the only way to get it under some semblance of control. And yet there are places and spaces I find myself in where I feel a bit embarrassed by it tbh. It just seems not grown up enough. But I really can't faff with straighteners. If it's not up in a bun my hair explodes in a kind of wavy triangle.

So not many solutions but lots of sympathy!

zinfi · 26/12/2023 22:11

You have a pretty face, good skin and nice eyes. You look mid 30s if I'm being honest. Have you had lip filer? It looks fine if so.

I'd say slight things would be more sleep (you look tired under eyes, I'm in the same boat there) but try drinking plenty of water, good concealer (avoid filler in that area!). Your skin is already good but perhaps add retin a to your skincare routine (one of those subscription places).

Nothingbuttheglory · 26/12/2023 22:12

I've had quite deep under eye grooves for quite some time but bit scared to fiddle with there, what can I do? any make up recommendations welcome!

I mean, this is bollocks, you do not have under eye grooves, but fwiw a caffeine serum (many available cheaply) will reduce puffiness if that's ever a problem. I think an illuminating concealer (again, many perfectly good ones available, pretty much all brands make them) is the place to start if you're worried about dark shadows and so on.

What's your skin / hair care and makeup like in general atm?

Personally I think grey hair is beautiful (can you tell mine are just coming in😆) but if you don't like it you can dye it. If you're wearing your hair up all the time and you don't want to then maybe consider a cut? How long is it atm?

QueenBitch666 · 26/12/2023 22:13

You're gorgeous ! Nothing like your self description!

QueenBitch666 · 26/12/2023 22:15

Hair dye
Eyebrow tint
Get some lippy on that amazing mouth!

SheerLucks · 26/12/2023 22:23

You are actually very beautiful! I mean, people would pay money for some of your features!

My advice would be to use Aveda hair products (a game changer for me) and No7 Early Defence Serum. It's the rebranded original Protect and Perfect - the one people used to queue up for (I have inside knowledge), and that's all you need unless you have very dry skin.

As for exercise, I used to belong to an expensive yoga club until a friend sent me this - I do it two to three times a week and it's worked wonders compared to the club.

Good luck! I think you're going to be gorgeous very soon!

Nannyfannybanny · 26/12/2023 22:29

Yup same here, you are stunning! You can get make up tutorials online, or get yourself to a make up artist in store. Frankly, I wouldn't go darker with your hair, all good hairdressers will do a free consultation, guidance with colour and de-frizzing.

Renamed · 26/12/2023 22:32

Well I agree with everyone that you look really great. However if you were looking for ideas to play with I can see you with a bob, maybe dark auburn, and wearing green. But don’t believe anyone who tells you a bob is low maintenance!

Rufffles · 26/12/2023 22:35

Woah, I'd love your lips, jawline and cheekbones!!!!
