Make me look less shite

Help - just as the thread says how do I look less looney and shite?

I need to lose weight. I'm on it. I'll be 41 in a couple of weeks and feel it. My hair is always in a bun and very grey at top but too dark at the bottom. My face looks spongy. I look just a bit crap. Name changed for this but give me recommendations on what you would do if you were me.

I'm scared of going short with my hair as it's curly and don't know how to control t 🙈

Curly bob?

NigelHarmansNewWife · 26/12/2023 22:36

What's your diet like? If you improve it and eat lean protein, complex carbs and plenty of veg you'll notice you look and feel better after a couple of weeks. Cut down on the amount of alcohol you drink too. That said you look lovely. Anything we dislike about ourselves tends to be stuff no one else notices!

mollyfolk · 26/12/2023 22:36

I think you look lovely and fresh and you have lovely skin. If you have curly hair I would experiment with products that are sulfate free like moo goo or some curly hair range in boots. I started a good skin care routine at 40 and got some of my glow back - a cleanser, serum , moisturizer then retinol twice a week at night.

SkaneTos · 26/12/2023 22:37

I agree with previous posters, you look great!

Your eyebrows are very nice.

Guavafish1 · 26/12/2023 22:37

exercise is good for the skin

anicecuppateaa · 26/12/2023 22:39

I don’t normally comment on threads like these, but felt compelled to. You really really don’t see what we see. You have amazing skin and look younger than 41!

I would invest in/ spend time on making your hair look good. I think that will make the world of difference to how you feel about yourself.

tinselvestsparklepants · 26/12/2023 22:43

I used to wear my hair tied up like that and looked similar! It can make you look very tired. Maybe consider a significant cut so that you don't get so much frizz - I've got chin length hair now and it looks so much better, though it took some nerve to do it. Ask your hairdresser? Or at least practice wearing it down?

notanothernamechange12 · 26/12/2023 22:43

You look my age and I'm 33 :)

Insidenumber09 · 26/12/2023 22:47

I think you look beautiful, if you want a change try a parting in your hair perhaps and frame your face? X

excelledyourself · 26/12/2023 23:04

Behave!

Yes, your hair could do with some TLC and your eyebrows could use a little definition, but your face is lovely. Really lovely. You have such nice eyes.

AmberPig · 26/12/2023 23:08

You look lovely and natural to me! I agree with @mollyfolk, embrace the curls and try some sulphate and silicone free products. Shiny, healthy looking hair doesn’t have to be straight. Cheaper options are Garnier Ultimate Blends conditioners and Aveeno oat milk shampoo, both usually on special offer somewhere. I also love Umberto Gianni curl gel but I do have thick hair, 3 for 2 in Boots.

toomanyleggings · 26/12/2023 23:16

I’d dye your hair, wear it down and possibly look at tear trough filler for the hollows. You look pretty good though.

TheWonderSpot · 27/12/2023 06:20

You're gorgeous. Work on knowing it, rather than on faffing with products.

Mintygoodness · 27/12/2023 06:30

You look great and have fantastic skin which I would encourage you to take good care of and wear SPF daily (no matter the weather, ultra violet rays that age the skin still do damage year round). Have you considered balayage? As I think you would look great as a dark blonde with highlights around your face. I also second tinting your brows and lashes.

willsandnoodle · 27/12/2023 06:31

You look super fresh and gorgeous! What's your hair like? Can't tell from photo. What made me feel more attractive was having my brows micro bladed. You have decent brows so I'd go for a tint and a shape to really enhance your face. I feel so much more glamorous with my natural undyed hair. It's glossy and healthy and that looks good. I also use a small amount of concealer under my eyes when I want to look less tired, one shade lighter than my skin colour, as too light is too obvious.

Make sure you're moisturising (I just use Nivea, nothing fancy) drink water and don't drink alcohol, less sugar and you'll glow from within.

ithinkthatmaybeimdreaming · 27/12/2023 07:11

Another one who thinks you look lovely, and younger than your actual age. I also think you should embrace having curly hair and set it free!

BeethovenNinth · 27/12/2023 07:18

What is the yoga class called please - I can only see “vinyasa yoga with fi” and can’t find on You tube!

Thewokewokingwarrior · 27/12/2023 07:46

You're gorgeous, beautiful lips

user73 · 27/12/2023 07:59

I’m a very visual person and can immediately picture things differently including people. I’ve been through various styles and images with your photo.

What looks best is a glossy brown the colour of dark chocolate. Eyebrows the same and shaped so they’re quite defined. Just sitting at shoulder length and using your natural wave.

lose the nose ring I’m afraid. It’s never going to look good.

lashings of mascara. A soft rose on your lips, some light contouring just to lift your face.

Vinoveritass · 27/12/2023 08:03

I would change the nose ring to a stud. It somehow takes over with the ring. I would give your eyebrows more definition, that's more important than mascara I'd say. I would focus on hair not being frizzy, and if you like hair up (I do) focus on getting it into a bun that looks good rather than just shoved up. I think you suit hair up as your face is very pretty. Then just keep at the eating well and exercise and plenty of water

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 27/12/2023 08:22

Nothing wrong with your face, you could do with an eyebrow tint to add definition.

Your hair could do with a little TLC, hair changes a lot in your 40’s. Aveda do a curly hair range.

LoveBeingAMum555 · 27/12/2023 09:11

Hi I agree with everyone else, you are being way too hard on yourself! I would suggest sorting your hair so that you can wear it down, ask around for recommendations for a good hairdresser. I have recently embraced my naturally wavy hair and it suits me much better that fighting to make it straight, and it's easier to look after. There are loads of products for wavy/curly hair to experiment with.

Cheesyfootballs01 · 27/12/2023 10:03

Can’t comment as no picture?

HelloOhHell · 27/12/2023 10:15

Can’t see your pic either but after reading all of the comments, it sure is a lesson on how we really can be our own worst critics. So my only suggestion is to be less harsh on yourself OP 💕 💕

Looks like OP has asked for her photo to be removed. I don't think she's coming back. Though everyone has been honest and positive.
