Best jeans. Do they exist?

I’m in my forties and still haven’t found ‘the ones!’
Surely they are out there somewhere?

5.7” Pear shape.

I just want a good pair of bloody jeans! Ideally dark blue, would like to turn them up & wear with boots (converse in the summer). Not skinny but not mum jeans either (they do nothing fit my mid-riff). Would like them to come up to my actual waist & not low slung (no one needs to see that!) Get better with age.

Point me in the right direction if you’ve found the perfect jeans! Thank you

I’m 42 and live in jeans I’ve had for years, when they fell apart I started the search for new. I’ve discovered next lift slim and shape jeans- high waisted lovely quality in a variety of colours/denim. I’ve ended up with secc Bernal pairs, I got all mine from Vinted.

I'm 5'11 and a pear shape. I have the Lily jeans in dark blue from M&S. They are straight leg and high waisted, I love them. M&S have quite a few different styles so might be a good place to try on a few types. Good luck!

maldivemoment · 23/12/2023 06:18

Thank you both 👍🏻

I love Tesco/F&F Contour jeans. I’m 5’8 and wear a 16L. They’re also available on Next online. Either that or M&S Ivy.

Try next mid rise slim leg or bootcut

I work there and always recommend these jeans and they always buy them .

adultsizedogbed · 23/12/2023 06:36

These .. put in the code on the screen . They come in 4 colours .

Mango - consistently good. Good sizing and quality is excellent

Thinkle · 23/12/2023 07:01

I rediscovered Abercrombie recently. They have a curve range and quite a few styles were high rise. I had way more options there than the Selfridges denim lab

Ponks · 23/12/2023 12:23

Found these last year in John Lewis and love them , so comfortable, look good rolled up or left unrolled.

Hush - Agnes straight leg. They are perfect.

I used to be a denim specialist at Selfridges and can hands down say it’s so worth spending that little bit extra (if you can) on a decent pair of jeans that will last years and will mold to your body shape. Go to Selfridges, M&S, John Lewis etc (one of the big department stores that offer personal shopping and that have a decent selection of different styles) and try on a number of pairs. Brands that were always popular with women back when I was working on denim are J Brand, Citizens of Humanity, Paige Jeans (so comfy!), Armani Jeans, Seven for All Mankind. ALWAYS go for a size down, they will seem tight at first but a decent pair of jeans have less elastine in than the cheaper ones, so they will stretch well over time and last longer. Good luck! Xx

Yes, elastane is great for comfort but, if you want jeans to get better with age, you need to avoid it.

carrythecan · 23/12/2023 13:59

Early 50's pear shape here and also recommend Hush Agnes straight leg & also M&S jeans (various styles).

troppibambini6 · 23/12/2023 14:27

@Claricethecat45 totally agree! I bought a pair in the sale online one year without holding out much hope and they were fab.
I've had about 5 different pairs of mango jeans and loved them all.

Whataretheodds · 23/12/2023 14:28

Citizens of Humanity bootcut

fabricstash · 23/12/2023 14:29

I have just bought some unisex Carhart ones and I am really impressed. Quality of denim is great

SeaToSki · 23/12/2023 14:29

NYDJ.

fabricstash · 23/12/2023 14:30

Am also pear shaped and turn them up

FlyingCherub · 23/12/2023 14:31

Wrangler High Rise Skinny - only they're not that skinny, just right. I've about about 6 pairs and absolutely love them. I got mine from simply be (size 18) and they also wash brilliantly.

Hands down the best jeans I've ever had.

Scirocco · 23/12/2023 14:32

I like NYDJ jeans and so does my mum! We're quite different body shapes but there are different styles and we've got ones that are both comfortable and (we think) suit us.

whatchagonnado · 23/12/2023 14:34

Levi's are great for me. I don't wear skinny, but love the rest of the styles

Claricethecat45 · 23/12/2023 15:05

They are really good - and - a complete surprise!! Good price as well… I have 4 pairs in denim blue and black … wash well and a great fit !

maldivemoment · 23/12/2023 15:26

Thanks all.
This has been enormously helpful.
I’m drawn to the Hush Agnes.
Sizing? Prob a 14 but I have good child-bearing hips. Should I size up?

OP posts:
stolenstoat · 23/12/2023 16:00

I find Hush sizing quite generous. I’m a smallish 12 but the 10 fit really well. I also got the long ones because I like a turn up.

BuddyBuddyBumBum · 23/12/2023 17:10

Matalan Jolie relaxed skinny jeans. Roomy, stretchy, waist is perfect for me - not too high which I find really uncomfy.
