Hi,

So obviously I'll start. Was quite disappointed to see that the YSL Youth Liberator foundation, which I really loved, is being/has been discontinued. Story of my life! Every time I find my go to product (usually beauty) they always get discontinued!

Anyway, I've just recieved the Armani Luminous Silk and it's really gorgeous 😍 I know it's expensive, but I'm quite used to being disappointed and not usually getting what you pay for, but this really is, well....bloody good 😂 Also managed to find the perfect shade match, which is hit and miss when you're buying online.

Now to hear the news it's being discontinued in the new year 🤣

So what are your best beauty finds, which have surprised you?

Rosalique 3 in 1 anti redness with SPF50.
I have rosacea and very high colour on my nose and cheeks.
I don't need foundation if I apply this. Fabulous on my 54 yo skin.

FastFood · 21/12/2023 09:39

Best beauty stuff for me this year was the Silke bonnet. I now wake up with glorious hair. I'm on the third day post blow dry and it still looks like I went to the salon.

Also, the Revlon one step styling thingy is amazing.

GenXQuestion · 21/12/2023 09:42

Sugar House Organics Get Up & Glow facial oil. I slap it on at night and wake up with soft, beautifully plump skin.

Fannyfiggs · 21/12/2023 09:53

The Weleda skin food was all over social media so I decided to give it a go as my acne, spotty, perimenopausal skin is like sandpaper. It's bloody amazing. I've been using it for about a year now and my skin is looking so much better.

I've also been using O'Keefe's body lotion for my dry legs. Again, bloody amazing. Much better that Aveeno or Cereve.

jinyjo · 21/12/2023 10:10

Il Makiage also do a primer combined with the foundation the best product ever. After applying the pimer just one drop of foundation gets full coverage on my entire face, also great colour match

@tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz yes to Tweezerman lash curlers - the best!

I wondered if you'd tried The Ordinary lash serum? It's working wonders on my eyelashes and brows and no irritation for me.

My other beauty win this year is La Roche posay niacinamide serum (amazing stuff for skin tone and stopping spots before they've started)

Make up wise I've repeat purchased L'Oréal Sky High mascara which hasn't given me any irritation or panda eyes and much cheaper than the Clinique one I was using previously.

Unfortunately for my bank balance I also discovered Pat McGrath eyeshadow which is incredible stuff but £££ Finally treated myself to a palette in the Black Friday sales.

It was NK1 that I tried.

To be honest I'm wary to try others now (also when googling my symptoms I came across other conditions it's been linked to and didn't like the sound of them either) as it seems once I'd stopped my blepharitis which i was getting on and off suddenly (fingers crossed) massively improved and I've been symptom free of that for a while.

So lash curlers is is for me now Grin

icelollycraving · 21/12/2023 07:47

Best lash curlers are Kevyn Aucoin as a larger area so gentler imo.

Thank you >adds to list <

Elf foundation, works well on my sensitive oily skin.
Avon heat protection spray. I haven't been impressed with anything Avon for a while but this is actually really good. Hair feels bouncy and shiny, even DH has noticed the difference. Only downside is it's a small bottle.
Essence waterproof mascara. Cheap as chips at about £3.50 but was the only one that didn't irritate my eyes and actually stayed put. Typically the only place I could get it was Wilko, and online it looks to be the only one of the range not available.

ianshe · 21/12/2023 15:36

@DeclineandFall not sure if this has been mentioned but google findation. It's a website where you can input the foundation shades you usually wear with other brands and it'll match you to an other brand !

TheFTrain · 21/12/2023 16:10

Nars liquid bronzer and their liquid blush in orgasm.

La Roche Posey Cicaplast Baume for irritated skin is a miracle product. I discovered it after having a skin peel that really inflamed my face (it brought the redness down overnight) and now I use it if I get flare ups of eczema on my hands.

MarvellousMinnie · 21/12/2023 17:18

@thefallen I agree about LP dry shampoo.

I stocked up in TK Maxx...£15 rather than £25 which makes it a little more palatable!

elm26 · 21/12/2023 17:26

Can anyone recommend anything to shrink pores? I am so sick of having large pores 😵‍💫

Also, if anyone is trying to find their foundation shade, go onto www.findation.com and you can find hundreds of brands and match it to what you already wear.

itsnothingoriginal · 21/12/2023 17:30

@elm26 Maybelline Baby Skin pore eraser primer is good for smoothing large pores. Mine are huge and it definitely works (and is cheap!)

Loreal infallible matt foundation. I bought it in an emergency from Asda for a tenner. But its one of the best foundations I've ever used. I have really greasy skin and never known a foundation to stop the shine so well.

Dermatonics Manuka honey foot cream is the only foot cream that I've found that sorts out my hobbit feet.

I second this! I usually wear Estée Lauder double wear but the boots I legged it to didn't sell it. I bought that as an emergency and was honestly shocked at how much I like it.

Inkey list retinol eye cream is also great, I'm on probably my 5th tube.

DiamandaTheGreat · 21/12/2023 20:16

I'm really impressed with the Neutrogena Hydraboost water gel cream (it's whichever one is fragrance-free). I have very sensitive skin and it's been great so far, and is cheap!

My other ride or dies are LRP Toleriane moisturiser and Cicaplast Baume B5, Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage concealer for blemishes (shade isn't perfect but coverage and staying power is unmatched IMO), and tubing mascaras. I'm currently using a Clinique one in v dark brown as the No7 one has changed formula.

I testing to read about Weleda Skin Food - it didn't do much for me as a face cream but I love the dry oil spray and lip balm.

saturnspinkhoop · 21/12/2023 20:16

Mario Badescu’s drying lotion. It’s amazing stuff. I have very acne prone skin and I’ve tried a lot over the years and this stuff actually works. Whenever I feel a spot coming on, I dab it on and the spot is gone.

I wish more companies would have samples to purchase.

evryevrytime · 21/12/2023 20:25

Byoma hydrating serum. I bought it on a whim because I liked the packaging and couldn't afford my usual serum. It's amazing! It literally transforms the way my (dry AF) skin feels. Best purchase of 2023!

MadamVastra · 21/12/2023 20:28

REN gentle cleansing milk

estee Lauder tinted daywear

maybeline superstay matte ink lippy in pioneer

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 21/12/2023 20:40

I have been persuaded to try a retinol and about three weeks in my skin is looking pretty damn smooth and calm. I have dry skin so I went with Roc wrinkle correct serum and put a layer of Lacura caviar night cream over the top. It's definitely a bit uncomfortable going on and makes my skin red which was worrying at the start but it calms down within a few minutes and my skin looks good in the morning. I've also started using a retinol eye cream but am trying two and can't decide which I like better, one Glow Recipe Avocado and the other Nip and Fab Retinol Fix. I think the Glow Recipe is a bit more gentle and moisturising.

WavingCatsandDogs · 21/12/2023 20:44

@tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz Could you state the youtube video for the eyelash curler use, I've never got the hang of them without pinching my eyelids !

Gertrudetheadelie · 21/12/2023 20:55

I'm currently loving my clarins lip oils (I have cherry and chocolate and I'm toying with apricot...). They are glossy without reminding me of my teen years in the noughties and my lips actually feel moisturised, unlike with some brands. Pricy buggers though.

I've tried Liz Earle, old Decleor, Elemis etc but the best night cream ever has been Nivea in the blue pot. Makes my skin smooth and soft and it's ridiculously cheap. I'm just bitter that I didn't discover it sooner!

Also thanks to cetaphil moisturisers/face washes and the Ordinary for sorting out 20+years of problem skin.

Togomalone · 21/12/2023 20:57

Ooh and Smoom have 25% off right now across their whole range

I spotted customer testimonials on TikTok so it’s genuinely good stuff… doesn’t look like they have to do any marketing as customers doing it for them!

stayathomer · 21/12/2023 21:02

Bought Aimee Connolly primer and was humming and hawing on parting with the €25 because nothing has been working primer wise. Got the moisturising one and it is perfection!!!

Also Vichy mineral blend foundation- bought because I needed foundation, only one pharmacy in the town and they only sold Vichy. Love it!!

Krustykrabpizza · 21/12/2023 21:02

Grow gorgeous volume serum. I have flat hair and this has made such a difference. It's so rare to find a beauty product that makes a noticeable immediate difference I was very impressed.
