To think wearing, for instance, dresses with a high slit up the side eventually looks desperate?

I don't think women should have to dress frumpy with age, but at some point a face that's a little older above a revealing dress looks a bit wrong, even on the loveliest figure. Baps out is one thing, but the dresses with a high slit up the side don't look right.

AIBU?

Celebrities might do it on the red carpet but usually they've had lashings of botox, fillers etc.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I've got a great figure I've worked hard for I'm going to flaunt it, as long as I want to. I've never had boobs to flaunt but my legs are by best feature so I wear short skirts and shorts. I think I can wear what I like and thinks others can do the same.

DollyDaydreamW · 20/12/2023 13:04

Personally I love seeing eighty year olds, disabled people, slim people, fat people, people with cellulite, people with no cellulite, people with artificial limbs, people in wheelchairs, people with guide dogs, people of all ethnic backgrounds, young adults, middle aged people, poor people and rich people dressing in whatever they want all the time and only prioritising their own feelings and confidence about how high their dress slits are.

Cotswoldmama · 20/12/2023 13:05

What are they desperate for?

Cotswoldmama · 20/12/2023 13:06

And why are baps out OK but a leg not?

shearwater2 · 20/12/2023 13:06

I couldn't disagree more. Well done for being ageist and sexist in one post.

Women should wear what they want and feel comfortable in, and think they look good in. Opinions may differ on that, but it's entirely up to the individual.

I'm 48 and wore a long halterneck fitted light coloured dress to a work dinner in the summer, which showed my arms and back. I've been working out and lost weight, and ten years ago when I was 38 and crippled with endometriosis and stressed, bloated to fuck, obese and not able to exercise I likely wouldn't have felt comfortable in it. But it's entirely up to the individual and how they feel.

Desperate for what? Attention? Sex? I'm happily married and am massively outnumbered by men in my industry. I was wearing it for me, I don't give a fuck what anyone else thought though it was of course nice to get compliments.

itsmyp4rty · 20/12/2023 13:07

I have no idea why you'd think that boobs out is ok but legs out isn't? I'd have thought that having your boobs hanging out was far more 'desperate' than legs out.

I also don't understand how celebrities having botox in their face would mean that it's ok for them to get their legs out. You're ideas are very bizarre to me.

DuploTrain · 20/12/2023 13:08

I don’t think they’ve had Botox and filler on their legs? Or maybe they have?

SnowRoomAtTheInn · 20/12/2023 13:08

I saw a woman in I would say her 70s on the tube the other day. She was wearing a jumper dress with high split, patterned fishnet-ish tights and chunky boots and had long, corkscrew curls silver hair. She looked fabulous. I’m too shy to compliment people on a packed tube, but I so wanted to.

YABU and a bit weird.

AtillaTheHon · 20/12/2023 13:09

I'm a pretty covered up kind of girl regardless of how amazing my figure (it isn't anyway) or my age. I wouldn't have worn something revealing as a very slim 26 yo any more than I would not as a somewhat not slim 40 yo.

I follow people on IG who are bigger, older etc but look phenomenal in a bikini. I'm just not the kind of person who would post a bikini pic online. But it has nothing to do with age / desperation

GonnaNeedABiggerBag · 20/12/2023 13:10

Can you expand on what you mean by ‘desperate’? And by what age should women being taking notice of this opinion?

porridgeisbae · 20/12/2023 13:11

What are they desperate for?

Attention maybe.

And why are baps out OK but a leg not?

I just think the leg thing looks more desperate. Maybe because people having their baps out is more widespread.

Keep your nose out of other women’s clothing choices. 😳

BatshitCrazyWoman · 20/12/2023 13:12

I'm nearly 60, have a decent figure and good legs and would wear something with a split. I don't give a stuff what you or anyone else thinks. I'll wear what I want, thanks.

MrsMiagi · 20/12/2023 13:12

What an awful post OP. People can wear what they want. Desperate for what? Such a weird opinion

fuckityfuckityfuckfuck · 20/12/2023 13:12

I think baps out is more desperate than legs out. A sleek satin dress with slit can look quite elegant.

Absolutely agree!!

TerfinUSB · 20/12/2023 13:14

I don't agree. My body now is stronger and leaner than ever and my legs are my best feature. My 'baps' are not for showing to anyone except my partner. I'm not sad or desperate, but I am told I look fabulous with a high split. And what's more i feel fucking awesome. I do wear modesty underwear though, wouldn't want to flash anything else.

It's heartened me to know I can still offend people with my dress sense though. Not done that sine I was a teenager 😁

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 20/12/2023 13:14
Hmm
CantFindTheBeat · 20/12/2023 13:15

What other derogatory views do you hold, OP?

GreenLight23 · 20/12/2023 13:15

Who are you thinking of in particular? I don’t know anyone who dresses like that but good luck to them if they do. The women on the red carpet last night looked fantastic.

Baldieheid · 20/12/2023 13:16

I couldn't disagree more with the OP. Judgy pants on today, sweetie?

porridgeisbae · 20/12/2023 13:17

I also don't understand how celebrities having botox in their face would mean that it's ok for them to get their legs out. You're ideas are very bizarre to me.

It's the contrast between the face and the outfit that I think makes it look a bit 'off.'

I saw a woman in I would say her 70s on the tube the other day. She was wearing a jumper dress with high split, patterned fishnet-ish tights and chunky boots and had long, corkscrew curls silver hair. She looked fabulous.

I think I would've thought she looked wacky but that's personal taste I guess. I'm often trying not to look wacky even though it's probably my natural tendency. Grin

Can you expand on what you mean by ‘desperate’?

Like 'ooh, look at me, look at my body.'

jay55 · 20/12/2023 13:18

I have terrible legs so am jealous of those who have great ones, I'd wear slits, or slim fit trousers or minis if i could.

PeanutAndBanana · 20/12/2023 13:19

I dress for myself and no one else. Rest assured if I choose to wear a dress with a slit on the leg at 52 I'm not desperate for attention or doing anything other than wearing what the fuck I like.

porridgeisbae · 20/12/2023 13:21

I do wear modesty underwear though, wouldn't want to flash anything else.

@TerfinUSB Interesting, could you possibly link to the sort of thing you mean?
