Not buying clothes 2024

Nonewclothes2024 · 14/12/2023 18:16

I need to stop buying clothes.
I have far too many.
I feel overwhelmed deciding what to wear every day.
I wear a uniform to work.
I have deleted all shopping apps.
I am unsubscribing from shop e mails.

Anyone else ?

I have repaired 3 cardigans this afternoon which means I can use them for work

Things like holes under armpit or at elbow but they are cashmere so I want to keep them going

LouisaMayAlcott · 01/01/2024 16:33

I've seen this on just the right day! I really need to join in if I may, I wear the same stuff day in day out (wfh) and just have to look smart a few times a year. And yet I have tons of clothes for those few smart occasions. I absolutely do not need anymore clothes and it would be good to save some money this year!

CynthiaKnicksOn · 01/01/2024 16:50

Same @LouisaMayAlcott! I don't wfh and have a 😴 work dress code (secondary school). But even still, I seem to wear the same things all the time.

From what I've seen popping up on here and on SM, the sales aren't even good / tempting this year! We aren't missing anything!

WinterCarlisle · 01/01/2024 17:49

I’m absolutely trying not to buy anything this year too but with the caveat that charity shops are still ok! I don’t get much time to go so it’s not going to be a regular thing. I figure that if I really get the itch then at least it’s essentially recycling and for a good cause…..

MsDastardley · 01/01/2024 18:08

I tried this last year and was woefully bad. I have finally realised that there is nothing I need. I did a couple of clear outs last year and sold a slot of stuff on eBay, donated to charity, gave away.

I did order a few things in John Lewis sale, but have returned all but two as they were similar to things I already have, or just not wow enough.

Currently no,plans for any purchases in the foreseeable 🤞🏻

Yes I tend to

Things don't go together necessarily or you can't replace something in the same colour and the cut has changed so it doesn't go well with your older stuff

Apple2023 · 02/01/2024 07:31

Decided I would be doing a no/low buy 2024 and set myself a couple of rules. If I were to buy anything new it could only be to replace something old in my wardrobe that needs a refresh or to replace something that doesn’t fit (I’ve recently had a baby and although I’ve pretty much gone back down to size I haven’t tried on the dreaded swimwear yet and have a holiday approaching).

Already fearing I may be needing to replace my brand new UGG slippers I got for Christmas after I spilt cooking oil on them last night. I’m blaming sleep deprivation….🤦🏻‍♀️

Andnowshesatoddler · 02/01/2024 14:00

I have to declare a roka mystery bag purchase, I have ordered a small one so as I really need a bag that can be used for dog walk all my leather bags are too smart for dog walk and park with my toddler.

Andnowshesatoddler · 02/01/2024 14:01

Sorry that was £9.99
Got free delivery though

GreekGod · 02/01/2024 18:43

Today I was scrolling through magazines and watching old Trinny videos and started mix/matching the existing clothes in my wardrobes, normally would have bought new ones as suggested in the magazine or those suggested by Trinny but mix/matched with those i have and put together some great outfits that I normally would not have mix/matched, am quite proud of myself. I bought absolutely nothing,

I washed mine in the machine. Try that first.

I am avoiding all shops as don't think I could maintain my resolve! I have unsubscribed from all clothing websites. I must keep strong :)

In a shop today, I saw a woman wearing a top I really liked.
Him - look online
Me - I'm trying not to buy anything, remember?
Him - oh yes , sorry.
Me - if SOMEONE wants to buy it for me, that's fine.

Is that cheating ? 😬 😂
I can't track it down anyway - phew.

Still waiting for 2 knitted midi dress to come that I ordered from next clearance in December, only to keep one , two different sizes, a coat same place, and a white leather bag and some hush jeans from John lewis sale, not going to buy anything this month, I'm now listed some clothes on ebay to sell.

CharlotteRumpling · 03/01/2024 11:41

Avoided my neighbourhood charity shop. Honestly with the weather, am just wearing my dowdy Seasalt Janelle, leggings and waterproof boots. No enthusiasm for S and B right now.

canyon2000 · 03/01/2024 11:52

Hi, I would really like to join in and do a no buy 2024! I have bought a few new clothes in the sales which I am waiting to be delivered. I lost a few kg of menopausal weight gain towards the end of last year so needed to get a few smaller bits as a lot of my clothes are too big now. However, no purchases since 30/12/23 so that's good!

caramond · 03/01/2024 16:17

So far staying strong. I'm noticing how much time I usually spend scrolling through clothing websites/apps or eBay looking at what I can buy next. Not doing that at all now.

I actually feel like I have everything I could possibly want in my wardrobe for now so that's a good start to the year.

Darklane · 03/01/2024 16:42

I’m actually finding it quite liberating, at the moment ( not sure how long it will last 🤔) not looking for things & avoiding just scrolling. Great not feeling guilty, should I have ordered that? Or waiting in for deliveries. Spending more time reading & grooming my four very hairy mutts so they look elegant at least 😂

Twoshoesnewshoes · 03/01/2024 17:28

Bugger
took dome returns back to Next and bought some cargo trousers
popped in to TKMaxx and bought a top
oof! Off the wagon already!

TheVeryAngryCaterpillar · 03/01/2024 17:50

I'm in for Shop Your Wardrobe...apart from some new trainers which I really need! Also a fan of the Whering app, although it tells me I'm only wearing 35% of my wardrobe 😳but I keep forgetting to update it! I'm going to try looking half decent this year even when working from home.
