Nonewclothes2024 · 14/12/2023 18:16

I need to stop buying clothes.
I have far too many.
I feel overwhelmed deciding what to wear every day.
I wear a uniform to work.
I have deleted all shopping apps.
I am unsubscribing from shop e mails.

Anyone else ?

I have several things on my wanted list but just cant find them so I'm forced into a no-spend situation really.

knee length tan suede block heeled boots. All sold out everywhere as usual.

Ditto black suede boots

green/blue/brown print midi skirt. Nope

midi dress that isnt cool sludge coloured. Nope.

long dark grey mac/coat with belt. Nope.

Sigh.

I am so trying to be sensible @IndianSummer78 Grin

I might have overdone it on the make do front though. I kept knickers and nighties that actually had holes in and didn't come to my senses until I pulled up a pair of big pants one day and only the waistband made it all the way up Blush

barkymcbark · 28/09/2024 17:54

I've been pretty good, but Vinted and my local charity shop have helped. Only bought few tshirts and a pair of leggings that were new.

I’ve done a no shop year before and am planning to try again in 2025 .

I'll join you for 2025. I've done really badly this year.

Thighdentitycrisis · 28/09/2024 19:23

@Netcam
you’re on!
I have one or two things I must buy before January then. Is that cheating?

Cheat now, you've got 3 months left. I've gone a bit mad in the end of summer sales, after doing really well for months.

Netcam · 28/09/2024 19:30

Just been looking, I did a year of almost no buy from March 2023 to March 2024 apart from 4 pairs of socks and a pair of trousers. But this spring/summer I've bought loads. It needs to stop. Shall we allow each other 1 more item until the end of year? And then go no buy for 2025?

Let's make it 2 items max before the end of the year, then no buy 2025.

Thighdentitycrisis · 28/09/2024 19:49

@Netcam Im not going to go mad before Christmas but definitely need walking boots as mine are no longer waterproof, and underwear and ……

Garlictest · 28/09/2024 21:20

I've just spent an hour reading the last 100+ posts on this thread, and I'm loving it! Not contributing right now: I've recently bought a load of nonsense clothes because fashion's got all exciting again and I'm trying different things to see which direction(s) I will follow - or not. But I want this on my current threads because I LOVE your posts and musings!

Fleurchamp · 28/09/2024 21:28

Placemarking for the 2025 thread but thinking of starting now.

I have just totted up what I have spent so far on clothes and shoes in 2024 and I am shocked... I have a rough budget in my head but each month I go over just a little bit which has added up. Basically, I have already spent my budget for 2024.

However, most of the things I have bought have been good buys - other than two things, one a vinted purchase that I really should have sent back (a wool jumper that had clearly shrunk by one size) and another a sale buy that I just didn't need.

I am going to try to massively cut down - I know I will need to replace a couple of bits but my plan is to offset those by selling on Vinted, I buy a fair amount on there but have never sold and I have a huge bag that needs to go.

That's OK, at least walking boots get you out and keep you healthy. I bought new walking boots recently.

We want to climb Snowdon next summer and the ones I have weren't that suitable when we went up Pen Y Fan this summer. And I got hiking trousers and a new Goretex jacket as mine has lost all it's waterproofing. All in the sales on very good special offers of course.

But that's before I mention the 4 summer dresses, 3 summer cardigans, 3 pairs shorts, 3 summer shirts and a linen jacket.

And about 6 pairs of trousers as I've lost some weight and my others were too big and are in a big bag in the landing while I figure out what to do with them.

And 3 pairs of ankle boots, a wool dress, a wool shirt and a wool long sleeved top and 5 pairs wool tights. All bought recently for this winter.

At least I didn't buy loads of jumpers, that was the winter before last, before my almost no buy year.

As I said, time to stop shopping. All of this in the past few months following an almost no buy year.

Andnowshesatoddler · 29/09/2024 00:12

Will be joining in for 2025 again.
Not done badly this year really everything has been considered purchases and everything has been worn I've lost quite a bit of weight this year so some things are slowly becoming too big.

SwimmingFree · 06/10/2024 19:44

I joined this thread at the beginning of the year and have done terribly! I lost some weight and used that as an excuse to buy but lots was just because I felt better and could fit into all the high street again (I went from a size 22 to around 16).L so started splurging but really don't have the money for it.

I'm committing now to not buy anymore clothes for the rest of the year, I don't need. I have lots of lovely things and I just need to get on enjoying what I've got.

I'm away to read back the thread for some inspiration. Thank you Daffodil

Netcam · 07/10/2024 09:25

@SwimmingFree, well done for losing weight, you deserve a treat as a reward and will feel better wearing well fitting clothes.

I'm the same, I've lost a stone and a half and some of my clothes, particularly trousers, are just too big. I've gone from a size 10-12 to a size 8-10. But in trousers that difference is very noticeable and I think my waist/hips/bottom is where I've lost most of the weight. Tops, jumpers and dresses still seem to fit fine, as well as stretchy things like leggings and tights.

I have bought lots of new trousers and have the old ones in a big sack and the landing trying to decide whether to get rid of them all.

I feel that if I only have clothes that fit me now in my wardrobe, it will give me even greater incentive to maintain the weight loss.

CharlotteRumpling · 10/10/2024 11:25

I am still on the no buy bandwagon. Found I don't really need as much stuff as I thought I did. I think I am still below 6 items this year apart from socks and bras.

Agree with not needing as much. I ordered 6 pairs of trousers, hoping to get one I liked. I've sent all 6 pairs back.

DyslexicPoster · 11/10/2024 23:34

I think I'm doing OK but bought a denim jacket of Vinted and a dress in a charity shop today. At least its second hand and cheap I guess. I have written down everything I gave bought this year but it's for me and three kids so I need to break that down into what was mine.

Definitely up for trying not to buy clothes next year too. Not only is saving me money and space, it's allowing me to reassess what I need and already have. I must have been mindlessly buying socks and pants for years I have so many.

Pigtailsandall · 14/11/2024 18:26

Hello! Just checking in on how everyone is doing now that there's only a month and a half left of the year. I've been really good - only bought 2 tops from Vinted with the credit I had. I'm trying to add a bit of colour to my wardrobe and got an orange shirt and a coral blouse. Still got to withdraw £30 out too so feels like a decent result.

On my wishlist for the rest of the year is a soft and slouchy turtleneck either in black or brown, but I can wait till post-Christmas sales

Netcam · 14/11/2024 21:52

Very badly. But planning a no buy year for 2025.

I did lose about a stone and a half.

I have a pile of hardly worn trousers. Trying to decide what to do with them. Mainly size 10 to 12 petite from Seasalt. Not sure if they are a desirable enough brand to try and sell, but I've never sold any clothes before.

DyslexicPoster · 14/11/2024 22:53

Not as well as I'd hoped but still good. Maybe 5-7 items Total. I'd love to be zero next year as that would mean I could wear some things to the end of their natural life.

TheOGCCL · 15/11/2024 09:24

@Pigtailsandall Amazing, well done!

I’ve bought too much, and sent a lot back, it’s not really where I want to be. But I have bought less than 2023 and in 2023 I bought less than 2022 so overall I’m improving. I STILL feel like I’m recalibrating my wardrobe after the pandemic. This year has also been good for Autumns like me, lots of dark brown instead of grey.

In 2025 I want to focus on the quality of clothes because a lot of high street stuff is just such poor quality, although there’s not necessarily much rhyme or reason to it. I need to get into the habit of not buying too cheap clothes for a boost, I want to spend the same budget but buy fewer items.

TheOGCCL · 15/11/2024 09:26

@Netcam Well done on the weight loss! I have four pairs of Seasalt petite trousers and they are worn a lot. Very good quality, there should be a market for them on Vinted or eBay.

Andnowshesatoddler · 15/11/2024 11:45

I've done better than I would normally, I've done a lot of returns of things that would have gone to the back of my wardrobe for one reason or another, considered purchases a lot more and generally done without.
I've lost almost four stone this year so I've wanted to enjoy this and get back into wearing different things and looking a little more put together I don't feel so much like I'm polishing a turd as I did.

Andnowshesatoddler · 15/11/2024 11:46

And as theogccl said unfortunately the colours this year are definitely a bit of me! So hopefully they will get plenty of wear once colours in shops change again.
