Not buying clothes 2024

Nonewclothes2024 · 14/12/2023 18:16

I need to stop buying clothes.
I have far too many.
I feel overwhelmed deciding what to wear every day.
I wear a uniform to work.
I have deleted all shopping apps.
I am unsubscribing from shop e mails.

Anyone else ?

I had a whole load of stuff in a basket yesterday and closed the tab without spending a bean. Proud face.

  • 3 H and M cardigans £22
-1 snuggly lounge hoodie £15 and thermal socks £3.5 I had similar ones at Christmas and love them so wanted another for when it's being washed. I live in my lounge wear haha Could have brought so much more but didn't. Have definitely loosened the purse strings this month though and the black hole seems to have reappeared!!
lindyloo57 · 05/03/2024 16:28

I did just order from next sale a fat face teddy coat half price, will be great for next winter or I will wear it now if it doesn't soon warm up.

HelenHywater · 05/03/2024 19:48

I'm still doing really well - 2 months in and have bought nothing. Not tempted either. Mostly due to perimenopausal weight gain which has made me feel crap about myself.

Slightly want a new pair of jeans.

I am such a different person to the me of last year which spent a ridiculous amount of money on clothes (and an even more ridiculous amount of time considering clothes).

Nonewclothes2024 · 06/03/2024 19:08

Still not bought anything. Had a wobble yesterday , saw a nice dress in Tesco, but I felt it and the material was horrible , phew.
Saw some nice trousers in a window today , but walked past.
I'm so pleased 😀

Still holding out and not spent anything in a month. Total spend this year £70. Have put money saved into a Monzo pot for travel since train fares going to rise. Makes me feel smug!

V tempted by charity shops and Baukjen sale, but resisted.

I can't put 'saved' money away because I don't really know how much I used to spend.
I'm just hoping I will have more money left at the end of the month.

Confession, ordered trainers. I only wear one type of trainers due to foot issues and managed to find some for £109, regular price is £150. I like to have 2 pairs, a muddy older pair for dog walks and a decent 'clean' pair. My current good pair can now become the muddy pair.

Cyclingmummy1 · 10/03/2024 14:29

I've ordered a couple of things from Nobody's Child, two skirts and a jumpsuit, ok, more than a couple but I expect a lot will go back 😆

I need a pair of golf shoes but that's not urgent.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 10/03/2024 15:19

I've had my head turned by a dress from Roman, it looks lovely for spring but I'm holding off untill I get my spring/summer stuff down from the loft.

Thanks!

Still not bought any clothes or shoes so feel good about this. Best friend bought me a jumper for my birthday that I said I liked last month which i thought was sweet of her.
But I am buying make up/cleansers as do need make up. Spent a fortune in Trinny London after treating myself to a make over. Felt a bit annoyed after spending a lot of money that they didn't even give me some freebies but there you go.

moimichme · 19/03/2024 07:46

Well done, everybody. I'm here to admit that I bought a pair of Chelsea boots from M&S during a work trip to London last week. They were half price and the boots I had brought with me on the trip, which I was planning to retire this spring (I walk a LOT), were letting water in and looked quite ratty compared to the footwear all around me...

I didn't want my colleagues to see that I was wearing those old boots, is what it came down to. It was a replacement and I'm sure the new boots will be used a lot, but I had planned to wait until the autumn for replace. Still, it was £22 well spent overall.

No more new things for me, though!

HelenHywater · 19/03/2024 11:24

I'm still doing well and haven't bought anything. Wore a dress to a meeting yesterday which still had its tags on it! (I took them off before the meeting).

I'm starting to lose weight so will be more tempted now - am tempted by new jeans especially. Also have a party to go to in May which has a glam dress code and I'd normally buy a new dress, but will try hard not to.

I think the autumn will be hardest for me as I have a few big work things where I want to look really good.

@moimichme I think it's fine to buy a replacement for something that's worn out.

moimichme · 19/03/2024 19:13

Thanks Helen! Logically, you're right, but since I was planning for it later in the year (not now) it kind of seemed like an impulse buy! But I don't have any other boots and they were needed, and will be used often.

Very well done on remaining firm so far this year!

Darklane · 19/03/2024 19:33

I’m holding out too, just 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻😏
Though I’ve caved in with an eyeshadow compact, a garden trowel & a new hairbrush for the dogs…..do they count???

lindyloo57 · 19/03/2024 22:51

Took four more items out of wardrobe for charity shop, and listed more things on ebay today, I'm afraid if I did the hanger thing half of my wardrobe would be out

TheOGCCL · 20/03/2024 08:45

I'm finding spring hard. Always feel the need for something new, and that I don't know what I wore the previous spring/summer. The warmer the weather gets the worse it gets. It's back to 11 degrees where I am this weekend so that helps.

Along with a previously declared belt, I bought a top in February (it's a winter one so no help with spring - it's also on the small side so not a100% success) so overall I'm still on my target and have only bought one thing a month which was actually last year's strategy that is so far working where it didn't last year (buying one thing just made me buy more). And so it's all an improvement on 2022 and 2023 but I do feel I could come off the rails very easily right now.

I've also cheated and sent for things I've returned and been almost relieved they weren't right, or maybe I'm being stricter in what is right - that'll do isn't enough.

One thing that is helping is some of the stuff around. I've actually been to lots of shops 'just to look' and seen very little I would like to buy, or that I don't have a variation of already. The trends don't seem to move on that fast these days. There's still a lot of dresses around and I don't wear those.

Do also want to save more money for various reasons (and I am) and not have a massive charity bag of stuff that is basically money that could be in my account.

I also just have very little call for new things.

Nonewclothes2024 · 20/03/2024 19:00

@moimichme I think new boots are allowed, if your old ones were leaking Smile

lindyloo57 · 20/03/2024 19:25

I didn't keep the fatface coat, the 10 was too small and the 12 sold out, I'm not doing very well, brought 3 item jan, 4 items in Feb, two pairs of jeans today, they were all in sale, except the jeans today but I did have £17 Voucher, in Jan and Feb they are all winter things which I needed more of, summer I really could go the rest of the year and not buy a thing, I will try but I know I can't go 9 months.

CharlotteRumpling · 26/03/2024 10:11

I have not bought anything since early February. Also given several jackets to the charity shop. Total for this year: 1 skirt and 2 bras. total spend £60.

I have an event in April and still not sure what I will wear. May buy something for that but am hoping to go till June without buying.
