Want to dress up, but nowhere to go (or go with 🥰) Fantasy wardrobe creation

ThisOrTha · 09/12/2023 16:35

I used to love getting dressed up and glam. Not from a vanity perspective but the fun and excitement of it. I’m now older with two kids a DH in tow. There never seems to be an opportunity to do this anymore and my friends don’t really do it either- mainly because we are all knackered with life responsibilities.

So thought, if anyone feels the same or up for it- want to choose tonight’s (fantasy if I was going out) outfit? I was in town today and saw these: https://www.russellandbromley.co.uk/topform/241487?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAvdCrBhBREiwAX6-6UivGbHCkpkvV8CWJv2l3RDDsvP9sj6C9NRqWvwZnXMNDR9eNmWxEiRoChGwQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Love them, too OTT for a drink at the local? 😆

I have no idea where I’d wear it but this caught my eye: https://www.wolfandbadger.com/uk/tricia-shiny-silk-wave-dress-blue/

Maybe on a yacht party?

EllaMenopee · 09/12/2023 23:06

I love a tulle skirt. And they are fantastically warm this time of year.

I have about half of Wolf & Badger in my online basket. Really need an occasionand body for this

Nothing is ever OTT when it comes to fashion. It only brightens the room when someone adds some flair. Especially if they are a nice person. I'm always overdressed and it's never hurt a thing, only made me happy!

goldennavy · 10/12/2023 03:09

Tulle skirts are fabulous. Dress up or down.

DarkDuvet · 10/12/2023 03:14

Oh, @ThisOrTha I so get this! My cupboards are full of frocks and shoes for glittering social occasions which will never happen.

Must not buy more. But a little fantasy shopping wouldn’t hurt, would it?

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 10/12/2023 06:43

26.1.24 is party dress day. Dress up in something lovely even if you have nowhere special to go. Then donate to the Good Grief Trust.

Life is too short. Buy the shoes/skirt/dress and just wear them.

I bought a tulle skirt in a deep green last week already worn in with a loose cotton jumper and boots. I'm trying to resist wearing it everyday tbh. It's not massively voluminous though.

Oh I love those shoes!

I never go anywhere anymore but often see clothes I’d love to buy but there’s really no point (can’t afford to be wasteful). I have two beautiful, red carpet worthy dresses I’ve never worn (and will never) because I got them in the early weeks of pregnancy and twenty odd years later they’re still in my wardrobe with the tags on!

dudsville · 10/12/2023 08:25

That's such a beautiful skirt @TooTiredToType77 😍

Catswillbecats · 10/12/2023 08:26

@TooTiredToType77 that is gorgeous! Get it back!

ThisOrTha · 10/12/2023 08:35

Ooooh- so many lovely things and I am not alone Thank you for joining the conversation 😆👍

I bought the shoes……….but even better, found them on Vinted for a lot less than in the shop. I convinced myself that they were meant to be, regardless of if I only wear them once. I did shoe the picture to my 12 yr old did and she said ‘no, you didn’t buy them did you’ 😝.

Wow. I used to have shoes like that in the 70s, except they were a very seventies plum colour and just from one of the chain shoe shops. Maybe Dolcis or Mansfields.

So it has to be on with my maxi dress, my favourite eyeshadow (something from Biba or Mary Quant) and off to a disco!!

In reality, at my age wearing heels doesn't happen any more unless I'm sitting down! Eyeshadow irritates my eyes. And a disco...well, that's unlikely too!

LostCats · 10/12/2023 09:29

Oh my gosh. The red tulle skirt and the bag. Now that’s all I’m going to think about all day! And convince myself I don’t need 😆😆
They’re so fabulous!
Although I just remembered I have a wedding to go to next year and I do need a bag…

LadyGeorginaSmythe · 10/12/2023 09:36

My friends and I semi-regularly go for the dinner/disco party night at a local hotel. It's fab. Mostly women, 35-60ish and a happy atmosphere. Chance to talk, drink, wear sequins, have a dance and be home in bed for midnight!
I absolutely love it. And it's an excuse to buy something new.
Tbh my budget is usually £30 not £300 but I like buying shiny, sparkly, impractical disco clothes and it makes me happy.

barbarahunter · 10/12/2023 09:38

OMG I love those shoes, OP!

JoyeuxNarwhal · 10/12/2023 09:54

@ThisOrTha I had shoes almost identical to that in the 90s. Loved them and wore them everywhere. Until the night I fell off them in a club and broke my ankle Blush

Gorgeous, although in one pic it looks like the model is about 8 foot! 🤣

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 10/12/2023 13:23

@Sharedcupboard buy it and wear it to the pub!

Taurusandvirgo · 10/12/2023 18:48

I like to dress up too OP. I'd wear those shoes. With s summer dress and a sunhat. I'd only be going to the corner shop or the park! You don't need an occasion. Just do it if it makes you feel good.

marthalovescheese · 10/12/2023 19:16

I have lots of gorgeous sparkly stuff that I can't resist buying but have nowhere to wear it.
Last Xmas I decided that I was going to go on full sequinned glam for Xmas day, even though we were at home with just adult sons for company.
On the day I really went for it. An over the top vision of green and black sparkle. Caution was thrown to the wind.
We sat down for Xmas lunch and son had a massive diabetic hypo. Couldn't get him round so had to get ambulance. Paramedics here in 5 minutes.
All ok, and they stopped for a good hour. However,I felt slightly ridiculous in my over the top sparkles, kneeling on the floor passing paramedics all their stuff. God knows what they must have thought.
They were fantastic though.
