How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?

How long does it take you from when you get out of bed to when you leave the house. doesn't matter what you're doing or where you're going. X

I do even more layers of skincare than you @Possimpible but they're just layered on straight after each other, as by the time I've replace the cap/put one bottle back the product has 'sunk in'! Are you literally sitting staring into space doing nothing while stuff is 'sinking in'? The only thing that might take a bit longer is SPF, but I'll apply that (30s max) and get dressed / drink coffee / close the window etc. while waiting so it doesn't add any time beyond the application.

Possimpible · 08/12/2023 20:15

@OnlyCorrect I don't think 2 minutes is a long time? To open a product, apply, and wait another maybe minute for it to sink in. It's hardly long enough to do anything useful. If it feels like it's taking a while, like SPF, I'll go and gather clothes etc. And obviously it's an estimate. If I rush and put makeup on top of moisturiser that I haven't left long enough I just end up having to wipe off and redo the base, so it's a false (time) economy.

Work day (I shower in the evening) up at 5.40am and out within 40 minutes. In office by 7am. Will have breakfast in work.

Weekend up and out in about fifteen minutes if waking at around 7am to take dog out for a long walk. In the summer, usually this is at 6am. Leisurely breakfast with husband when I get home.

I've always been pretty early riser and I'm definitely a lark rather than a night owl. I have pretty bad insomnia.

If I'm getting ready to go out for a gig, meal, "proper" night out I love taking longer, having some music on, a drink, leisurely shower, style hair and do makeup up.

Get up at 5am. Leave house at 7.50am
Tea
Make lunch for me and Dads
Empty dishwasher
5 mins LED mask whilst MN
Shower - May wash hair
Skincare. Think Korean
Gradual tanner
Work out 20 mins. Pilates or yoga usually
Get DDs uniforms ready/warmed. Find everything they may need. PE kits/Food tech etc
Wake up DDs. Get them breakfast -otherwise eldest DD won’t eat without prompting
Clean kitchen or bathroom or tidy around. Sometimes all three if feeling energetic
Put away dryer load of laundry in bedrooms
Make cappuccino
Upstairs for make up, get dressed
Swish and swipe bathrooms - do swipe around bedrooms for cups/rubbish etc
Field numerous rows between Dads for bathroom access
Get everyone in car with all bags/lunches

I’m exhausted by the time I make it to my desk at 8.50am!

DDs not Dads!!!

JMAngel1 · 08/12/2023 21:27

DH is oblivious to all of this. He gets up, coffee, peloton, shower, out the door.

HideTheCroissants · 08/12/2023 22:17

Alarm goes off at 6:30 and I’m out the door by 7:30. In that time I make a cup of tea for me and DH, shower, wash hair, make up, dry hair, dress, get DS up, make coffee to take with me, maybe put a wash on and head out.

I used to be quicker but I’ve some health things that make me slower.

Oblomov23 · 08/12/2023 22:23

I can do everything in 20 minutes easily, and no I'm not rushing. I shower, wash and blow dry my hair, make up, teeth brushed, have a breakfast, make a lunch and out the door, calmly and relaxed in 20 minutes. Easy peasy.

Papillon23 · 08/12/2023 22:28

I'm honestly particularly baffled by myself because I used to be a speedy morning person and now I'm just not.

I've been thinking about what has changed since then and it's as follows:

A) I used to leave the house every day. That meant my bag with everything I needed in it for my work day lived by the front door - whereas now I have to find all the random things I need.

B) I used to take breakfast in the car rather than eat it at home. See also tea if it was a really early start.

C) All my outfits used to be "out the house suitable" whereas now quite a lot look fine for video calls with warm leggings invisible on my bottom half but don't really work paired with tights and heels for the office.

D) I used to mainly drive to clients whereas now I cycle to the station which adds another layer of faff - buff for my head in winter, helmet, fluorescent jacket, packing stuff into panniers.

E) I didn't open my phone in the mornings basically full stop.

Between that lot it's the difference between 5-10 minutes between bed and door and 40-50.

Most of it could be solved by greater levels of organisation the night before but I mainly can't be bothered with that.

Chickenwing2 · 08/12/2023 22:56

I need just over an hour and still feel like I'm rushing every day.

7.15 - alarm goes off, lie in bed for 5 mins then up and let the dog out
7.25 - shower (will need to be even earlier if washing/drying hair)
7.35 - make up, sort hair & get dressed
8.05 - feed dog
8.15 - sort my packed lunch & work bag

Then always rushing as worried I will miss my train. I need to leave by 8.20. I get my coffee and breakfast when I get to work for 9.

I don't know how others can do hair & makeup so quickly.

Kwackerly · 08/12/2023 22:59

I'd need an hour if it was work. A lot depends on hair styling tbh! A good blow dry makes it longer. 30 mins if up and out and not washing hair.

gertrudemortimer · 09/12/2023 09:50

If I have ds I need an hour and if it's just me then 40 mins. I wash on a morning but always shower and do hair before bed. Usually I have to go over my hair with the straighteners on a morning. I don't know how people can wash and do their hair on a morning I would always be late.
