How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?

How long does it take you from when you get out of bed to when you leave the house. doesn't matter what you're doing or where you're going. X

I allow an hour if I’m travelling to the office. Shower and dry/straighten hair, put on makeup and dress in clothes chosen and put ready the night before. Cup of tea and check bag packed the night before. I could do it in 45 minutes probably but I’d feel stressed about missing the train which is a non transferable ticket to keep the cost down a bit. If I’m not going in I allow half an hour to 45 minutes but am less organised.

Surely these 10 minute routines can't involve proper skincare?? I'm so slow in comparison! 45 mins feels a rush to me!

I wash my face with a cleanser in the shower and apply factor 50. You don't need to use loads of products.

Possimpible · 08/12/2023 12:50

@JamSandle But I need to apply a serum/oil, let it sink in, a moisturiser, let it sink in, an SPF, let it sink in, and then do my BB cream. That all adds up to probably 10 minutes alone. I struggle to believe the super quick routines. If I break mine down:

5 minutes in the toilet
10 minute shower (body shower only)
2 minutes to brush teeth
2 minutes for serum
2 minutes for moisturiser
5 minutes for SPF (takes longer to sink in)
10 minutes for make-up
5 minutes to get dressed
5 minutes to get hair done and out the door

And that's my 45 minutes done! What are people skipping here? I can understand skipping makeup but wash, teeth, moisturiser, SPF, dress and hair are surely the minimum so that would be minimum 30 mins for me

DappledThings · 08/12/2023 12:52

wash, teeth, moisturiser, SPF, dress and hair are surely the minimum
Why would you assume they are everyone's minimum? I don't moisturise or wear SPF or anything on my skin. Brushing my hair takes approximately 12 seconds. I don't do anything else with it.

SnapdragonToadflax · 08/12/2023 12:59

I do serum, moisturizer/SPF in summer, then light foundation. But I don't stand around while they're sinking in, I'm getting dressed and drying my hair or opening curtains or something?

Possimpible · 08/12/2023 12:59

@DappledThings Mainly cos it's S&B I guess, and I've been moisturising in the morning since I was 12. It's as basic as peeing and brushing your teeth to me

@SnapdragonToadflax I tend to gather my clothes while it sinks in so I can just throw everything on once I'm ready. I didn't include curtain opening, but yeah I guess that takes time too but you multitask

Edited

Yeah, this came up in Active. I don't often venture into S&B other than to enjoy some time in bafflement at the efforts others go to.

I've never moisturised. It's entirely alien to me so nothing like teeth brushing and going for a wee.

Cantonet · 08/12/2023 15:05

Takes me about 35 mins. Make a cup of tea & run a quick bath. Drink tea after bath whilst moisturising, foundation, bronzer, lip balm, eyebrow pencil & shoving in gold hoops. Spritz hair with conditioner & some olaplex bond sealer & rough dry rapidly. Put on similar clothes to the day before with clean underwear/t shirt. I need longer with a change of outfit.
I can't believe some of you are getting up so early. I would rather stay in bed for as long as possible. Of course in Summer I wake up super early & am incapable of sleeping in.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 08/12/2023 15:12

Half an hour.

Brush teeth, wash face, brush hair.
Chuck some clothes on.
Downstairs to feed pets & empty dishwasher whilst coffee machine is on (run it before bed and empty it in the morning).
10 mins sat at the table to drink coffee & eat breakfast.

LindorDoubleChoc · 08/12/2023 15:19

It takes me at least an hour and I hardly wear any make up and never style my hair. But I won't have a shower before my morning "trip to the bathroom" and I usually have to wait a little while for that. And then I like at least 15 minutes in the shower.

OldTinHat · 08/12/2023 15:37

If I'm washing my hair, then about 40 minutes.

Purplepeopleeaterz · 08/12/2023 15:44

A good hour..

Wake up..
2 minutes stare at ceiling wishing I didn't have to go to work
1 minute sitting upright still wishing I didn't have to go to work
5 minutes shower have finally got a grip & come to terms with not being a lady of leisure
10 minutes do make up
5 minutes sorting out hair
10 minutes deciding on an outfit that makes me look slightly less shit than the last.
2 further minutes removing last outfit and returning to the first
5 minutes make coffee for work & take vitamins

Absolutely no idea what happens in the rest of the time??

App13 · 08/12/2023 15:45

wake at 615, out by 715.

have breakie and tea at home, 5minutes makeup, make lunch, set up bag and get dressed.

FastFood · 08/12/2023 17:06

2h15 approx, but that includes everything, shower, journalling, coffee, walking the dog in the park etc...
In terms of just getting prepared so shower, getting dressed, hair, make-up, probably 20mins.

I don't do serum or actually know what it is. There is spf in my moisturiser, though I wouldn't care if there wasn't at this time of year when the uv rating is so low. I don't wear makeup. The other things generally don't take me as long as your list, except for teeth that would take me longer than two minutes.

pinkspeakers · 08/12/2023 17:39

For work, alarm at 6.30, up say 6.40, out of house 7.20/25.

So 45 mins?

I could do it quicker I suppose, but I don't like to be rushing too much. If I'm alone then it takes longer as DH always gets up first and gets breakfast for me while I'm showering. And clears up too! (he works at home mostly)

Vitriolinsanity · 08/12/2023 18:10

40 minutes
Shower
Dry and straighten hair
Dress
Teeth

Make up in car

StopWithYourNonsense · 08/12/2023 18:11

45 minutes to shower, moisturise arms and legs, get dressed, brush and floss my teeth, do my make-up (full face), blow-dry hair

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 08/12/2023 18:34

@Possimpible

*5 minutes in the toilet
10 minute shower (body shower only)
2 minutes to brush teeth
2 minutes for serum
2 minutes for moisturiser
5 minutes for SPF (takes longer to sink in)
10 minutes for make-up
5 minutes to get dressed
5 minutes to get hair done and out the door

What are people skipping here?*

5 minutes 2 minutes max in the toilet
10 minute shower (body shower only) (No shower, I bathe the night before)
2 minutes to brush teeth
2 minutes for serum (No serum in AM)
2 minutes 30 seconds for moisturiser
5 minutes 30 seconds for SPF (nothing goes on top of it)
10 minutes for make-up (don't wear it)
5 minutes 3 minutes to get dressed
5 minutes 30 seconds to get hair done AKA brush hair (in my case).

The word 'minutes' looks weird now.

Toilet 2 min max
i can wash and condition shoulder length hair in 5 minutes, 10 for just a body wash is just a waste of water
Teeth I’ll give you
Moisturiser 30s max
serum - no
Spf - no
make up - no
Getting dressed - 2min max unless you’re a toddler
Hair - brush back and tie up, no more than 1min

yesterday lunchtime I got changed, did over 30min of exercise, showered (body only) and dressed again and was back at my desk in an hour including putting everything back in my locker twice!

Nobody actually needs to do all of that though. I wash my face in the shower and then put on a moisturiser with SPF in it.

Well nobody needs to do most things on S&B. I have dry skin and a facial port wine stain, so actually for me a moisturising base is essential, and so is giving it time to sink in so my BB cream and concealer give enough coverage.

As you probably know, a moisturiser containing SPF is unlikely to give you the protection factor stated. I risk it at this time of year (dark when I leave, dark when I get home anyway) but I need a separate SPF most of the year so it takes a bit longer.

MidnightMeltdown · 08/12/2023 19:01

An hour

I don't know how people do it in less, I'd be leaving the house still half asleep!

santasknackered · 08/12/2023 19:25

How long are you taking to wash your face and stick some moisturiser on. It takes me a couple of minutes

Ok that's where we differ then and reading the replies that seems to be the main difference!

I will cleanse and exfoliate
Use vitamin c serum
Hyrulonic serum
Peptide
SPF
BB Cream
Then make up

On my body I will use either body oil or body serum before body lotion.

SweetPetrichor · 08/12/2023 19:41

15 minutes from getting up to heading out for the train. I pack my bag the night before, lay out my clothes. All I need to do in the morning is wash my face, brush my teeth, brush my hair, get dressed, grab my bag and go.
