The Queen, and her ladies in waiting who always wear these dresses to this reception. They're not identical in design but they're very similar.

Anyone remember that hilarious photo shoot they did (was it for his 50th? Or hers?) on the roof of one of the palaces with Fred looking very disheveled and louche? Almost like he'd just woken up with a bad hangover?!

This one? It seems it was taken in 2013 but not released until 2022 for Mary's never ending 50th. That seems a bit... disingenuous? to release a photo of yourself that is almost a decade old.

Yes I think that's it! Good thinking to release youthful photos for your 50th! Mine's coming up this year (😱) so this is giving me inspiration!

Gosh the ladies in waiting having to wear the same dresses , though their real furs can be different.
Is it historically so they don't upstage the Queen ?

Mary and Fred don't look happy.

I believe the custom was instated so that the ladies in waiting could always be easily identifiable. I don't believe Daisy has any worries about being upstaged.

I don't know what to think about Fred and Mary tbh. Did he have an affair? Who knows. But if he was stupid enough to show himself alone in public with an affair partner then he's really, really stupid.

However, if I were Mary and let's say I knew without a doubt that there was no affair, I'd still be absolutely livid at the humiliation of it all. I'd be so angry with him for putting me in that situation! So I'd be just as cool as her in the circumstances, whether or not anything had happened with another woman.

I think Daisy looks OK her age. The weight of that fur would make anyone unsteady!
Mary is definitely a bit "cats bum," as we say in our house, but guilty or not, that's the least he deserves for putting himself in that position.

The last New Year's Reception of Daisy's reign has taken place this morning. Mary, Fred and Joachim all participated.

Mary wore the jacket she wore for her first time taking part, which was in 2010.

She wore it in 2013 as well, as shown on the final photo.

Daisy wore the same gown as yesterday (she has a tradition of wearing the same dress to all NY receptions - she wore her previous navy dress for 25 years plus). The bordeaux dress is her newest piece and has only been worn since 2022 IIRC.

On the video Fred saunters in again. Major eye roll. You're about to be King FGS.

I read somewhere (I think in the Australian media) that Mary took deportment classes after she met Fred. She should have taken him too :).

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in Joachim's residence.

I have always loved that brown jacket/pink floaty skirt combination- so sophisticated and beautiful.

I had a friend who went to finishing school abroad. She cooked cordon bleu, her cake decorating astonishing. Her flower arranging amazing and she knew how to walk, talk, get in and out of a car .

Are finishing schools still in existence?

Yes the pink tulle is much more regal than the brown skirt from today which frankly looks like a patchwork skirt run up in a Sewing Bee 90 minute challenge. The seams are pulling on it.
