Australia is awash with articles about 'our Mary' becoming Queen. Wonder if Margrethe will actually step away from the jewellery vault in her abdication and let Mary have a rummage.

Looks like she has already had a rummage judging by the bling last night's NYE banquet - although personally not sure about the elephant but given that Fred is wearing one it must be a ceremonial thing

Another sumptuous looking gown in a rich velvety fabric.
We've got so used to affectionately referring to her as CPM (EBG!) - what will she be known as once crowned? Is it Queen Mary?
Bet she'll go the full shebang with endless celebrations and tiaras. I know I would!

StartupRepair · 01/01/2024 22:20

That's the tiara set she has always had. The elephant is a national order. Love the red velvet.

paradyning · 01/01/2024 22:24

That dress is a rework of a dress she's worn to that do on a number of occasions now. It's lovely.

EBG looks amazing in that red gown and tiara.

(And yes, I am expecting a LOT of photos when she becomes Queen Mary).

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 01/01/2024 22:33

That's Mary's trusty tiara which she's been wearing for many years now - since before she was even Crown Princess, in fact, as she first wore it to a gala dinner on the eve of the wedding.

I wonder if Daisy will wear it now (Queen Ingrid wore it until her death) or if it will remain Mary's.

Maireas · 01/01/2024 22:34

She looks great, gorgeous dress, gorgeous bling! Another Queen Mary who loves the jewels!

Mary looks splendid in that red dress. It's not one of my favourite tiaras but it looks good with that dress.

Does Beatrice have a stylist? It seems that she is dressing better recently.

Yes, the appropriately named Olivia Buckingham, apparently.

themessygarden · 02/01/2024 06:28

Mary looks stunning.

musiquo · 02/01/2024 07:53

I'd love to see the POW with red nails, as both Margarethe and Mary have worn over Christmas.

Charlene looks gorgeous - I love that shade of red, and she's looking well.
Look at little Princess Sonam! So cute. They are such a beautiful family.

I don't think she looks well at all. She's had work done on her face which doesn't help with the frozen look but she always looks so distant.

Maireas · 02/01/2024 08:04

Well, @musiquo I've no idea if she's had work done or not. Not long ago Charlene was clearly very unwell. I look at her now, looking lovely, good hair and skin, gorgeous dress, completing engagements and I think that's a positive thing.

As a little girl, I dreamed of being a princess.
As an adult, I'd not cope well with living up to an ideal, needing to look amazing but not being seen to spend lots, every facial expression being analysed and never over-indulging in anything!
Hats off to them - it's not a life I'd fancy.
I agree @Maireas Char's looking great currently. Bet she's had a HECK of a lot to put up with behind the scenes which would put a strain on anyone's face 😱
I do think she's had tweakments and at times, it's looked overdone, but it''s nice to see her looking well and healthy. She's hit a good style groove lately too.

justasking111 · 02/01/2024 18:09

@Eaumyword I thought poor Mary when I saw the news, gilded cage. I'd hate that lack of freedom. But I haven't been prepared as they are.

LadyEloise1 · 02/01/2024 18:54

Gilded cage is right @justasking111

The first of today's New Year's Receptions has taken place. Mary looks fantastic - I love the navy, and I love the bling. It's a re-wear (slightly modified, I think) and is inspired by Daisy's gown.

The picture with Fred is from 2012.

Mary looks as elegant as ever, I love her brooch. Daisy looks quite sprightly there!
Fred needs a shave and a haircut.

OP posts:
AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 03/01/2024 13:04

Oh the gown has further significance - it's the first one Mary wore to the Queen's New Year's Table (the gala dinner on January 1st), back in 2006. However it's been modified since then; it originally had a train, I think.

I don't think it's been re-done since she wore it in 2012.

Choux · 03/01/2024 13:08

The pic with Fred is from 2012. Although 12 years later he still needs a shave. Here's today's entrance - Fred ambles in like he's a teen off to the cinema with his new girl and he's trying to look cool.

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 03/01/2024 13:09

@Maireas the photo with Fred's scruffy look is the older one, from 2012.

King Fred! Frederik X...

I wonder what he'll choose as the motto for his reign. I rather hope he chooses to continue with his mother's, but I suppose one would want to create a new beginning on such a momentous day.

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 03/01/2024 13:09

😄😄

Choux · 03/01/2024 13:14

QM looks to be in a little pain as she enters.

x.com/christinsqueens/status/1742494874706837831?s=61

Perhaps she is struggling to walk even with a stick, flat shoes and painkillers. And having seen QEIIs mobility issues and her cancellation of some engagements at short notice towards the end of her reign, she wants to keep her pride and retire before that happens to her. Understandable.

Maireas · 03/01/2024 13:16

Poor Daisy. That's a shame. She's always looked so bright and energetic.

MotherofPearl · 03/01/2024 13:18

I'm not keen on Mary's navy dress. It looks a slightly awkward fit and I'm not a fan of those collars.
