General “waifs and strays” beauty advent calendar opening thread

As in previous years, this a thread for those opening Beauty Advent Calendars not covered by specific calendar opening threads (though also happy for contents of those to be shared here too).

As previously, it will also be fun to hear about other calendar openings - food, jam, socks anyone?

Please do not include spoilers before 7am on the relevant day. Please also avoid dropping hints or spoilers about future contents if you have opened the calendar in advance.

I’ll be opening the Vogue and Selfridges calendars this year. Really looking forward to Day 1.

Thanks for the tips on the rosemary oil, I’ll try it in my shower this morning. Today’s H&B offering is a Sukin gel cleanser, which looks promising.

@PurBal we have the Paxtons calendar too. Loved the Day 1 cheese, have not yet tried Day 2 as we were out last night. Will catch up tonight.

Advent wise we're doing the Paxtons cheese and Bonne Maman (not very S&B).

I'm opening Liberty's 2022 jewellery 12 day calendar and Rituals 13 day Summer calendar to make 25 days. So very much in the waifs and strays. I'm alternating the days opening - so far I've had some Astley Clarke Huggies which are really cute and comfortable and a Home/room perfume spray.

Enjoying reading about all the other calendars everyone is opening.

Today’s spacenk is a Charlotte tilbury eyeshadow quad. Very pretty beige and gold but not for me as I need cool colours. Sadly our cut off for the school fair gifts was Friday else this would have gone to the tombola.

Today's Snag tights are okay in design but small and making my toes curl over, even though they are labelled the right size. Will contact them about this.

Foot cream today in Soap and Glory. I am living for the tights updates!

By Terry Day 3 is a primer - full size normally £43.

This is a good drawer for me as I've not found an HG primer and haven't tried this one yet. Also, will know pretty quickly if It's any good so It won't hang around long if not.

Good day 3:

Vogue: The Sarah Chapman icon day cream, full size. This is a new one for me, and looking forward to trying it.

Selfridges: A Natasha Denona mini bronze palette. These are the colours I use all the time, and as I tend to end up doing make up on the go more often than I’d like, the mini size is very handy. 3/3 so far for Selfridges.

Yesterday’s hand mask done late last night was ok and smelled delicately of roses but by this morning no discernible difference to my hands - so for £10, would not buy again.

Today I’m going to use Lumene arctic oil - this is a bit of a cheat as I already know I love it, but I rarely make time to use it so it will still feel like a novelty.

Did Snag misunderstand the point of an advent calendar to give people things to try that make them feel great and possibly buy more, and instead used it as a charity bag?! Odd colours and off sizing would have me straight onto customer services - but it’s excellent thread fodder, so thank you for sharing!

Day 3 Harrods is Eve Lom cleanser and cloth. I’ve never tried this but am a religious evening double cleanser so this is a welcome addition to my stash and it will be good to try something new.

Funnily enough we’re also utalising “old” calendars. We were given 24 days of rum last year as a gift but I was pregnant. Not opened any of it yet as been too busy for a drink (was up until midnight laying new flooring in the kitchen on Friday and DH was out last night). I am also a huge Astley Clarke fan. Let me know what you think of yesterday’s cheese: DH liked it more than me.

Dr pawpaw lip balm in today’s OK Advent. Come at the right time for me as my lips have totally dried out with the cold weather so not a bad day for me

M&S is an oil by Nuxe which apparently can be used for all sorts of things so I'm looking forward to trying that.

Molton Brown is a handbag perfume atomiser thing to put the various perfumes in that I hope will be in the calendar!

Degusta was a huge bag of Jelly Beans!

Boots today is Arket shampoo.

Boots' premium is 60ml Arkive shampoo. I like this as I generally only buy cheap shampoo at like to try out the posher ones 😁.

I woke up looking forward to the tights reveal. I’ve lived a very sheltered tights life.

My refilled calendar (done by my H) was a 111 skin face mask and a badger?

I was puzzled and assumed it must have been an in joke I’d forgotten about but H confirmed ‘you know how you’ve always loved badgers!’

Suppose I do quite like badgers.

I don’t like the lipstick from day 1, it completely dried out my lips. Now the lip balm from yesterday makes sense 🤣 (which is lovely).

I haven't tried the lipstick but I have noticed that with that brand before. I'll just pass it on to dd. She likes them.

They are definitely less mad than yesterday's. Disappointing though that the sizing is off. Hopefully they will rectify.

Boots No 7 Ultimate day 3 is a full size No7 Future Renew Day Cream which I’m very pleased with. Lancôme is Renergie Peptide Cream.

I did wonder if this may be a prelude to some badger themed Christmas gifts. I’m pretty certain I’ve never shown an interest in them, lovely though they are.
