General “waifs and strays” beauty advent calendar opening thread

As in previous years, this a thread for those opening Beauty Advent Calendars not covered by specific calendar opening threads (though also happy for contents of those to be shared here too).

As previously, it will also be fun to hear about other calendar openings - food, jam, socks anyone?

Please do not include spoilers before 7am on the relevant day. Please also avoid dropping hints or spoilers about future contents if you have opened the calendar in advance.

I’ll be opening the Vogue and Selfridges calendars this year. Really looking forward to Day 1.

I agree with you Dee1224. I've been SO disappointed with M&S and there have been five things that I will probably use but wouldn't be my choice to buy. My box for today was missing, and Customer Services were really awful when I contacted them. It was really poor value for money for me and I would never consider buying it again.

My Lumene calendar only had 24 boxes and todays was a glow awakening eye cream. Everything I've used so far from this calendar has been lovely.

I got more bloody candles in Jo Malone and Liberty today to add to my growing collection of things thst I will never use 😆. But there have been only two real disappointments with Jo Malone, both of which were candles, and five or six in the Liberty calendar. My daughter has had the little bracelet and all the makeup has gone into the charity box, but the rest will all get used.

Not sure my sensitive prone to redness skin will appreciate this

I've thoroughly enjoyed my AC and opening it with everyone on here

The cheeks are definitely not orange. And the lips are not the really dark red that it looked on the packaging. It is more plum like. Maybe I will give both a try after all.

Christmas Day:

Vogue: V by Laura Vann bracelet. I really like this, good final day.

Selfridges: Satisfyingly big box with a few things inside - Byredo lipstick, 2 fancy nail polishes (Pleasing) and an Oribe hair oil. Excellent end to an excellent calendar.

I think these have actually been among my best calendars ever. For me, Vogue delivered the luxury experience I was hoping for with only a small number of DoD days - Sisley samples, travel size hair products - but overall it has felt special and unique.

And Selfridges did an amazing job this year - great selection, and almost no DoDs. Lots of full size products, and when it was travel sized (like hair products) more than one in a single box.

Agree with @Mirrormeback great value from Boots.

Day 1 of Harrods fragrance. Byredo Gypsy water

I got a full size wood sage and sea salt perfume in Jo Malone today. I'm pleased with the Gypsy Water in the Harrods fragrance calendar, and have got a little Ghost fragrance in my Ghost 12 days of Christmas calendar today.

I've been lurking, mainly because I've been a bit underwhelmed by it all this year and I think that's because I was over-invested in calendars in August/September - nothing was a surprise.

I had Selfridges and it was lovely but I knew what was coming having watched all the unboxing's. The box itself though is great and will be used daily unlike the others that just sit there looking slightly forlorn but I can't bring myself to recycle them

I do Liberty Beauty Drop but didn't like a lot of this years calendar. Next year I'm going to go back to Liberty but not worry about the contents - I think the surprise will bring some of the magic back.

Not beauty but I bought the Missoma calendar just before it sold out as I had no jewellery (old job was in food manufacturing) - really pleased with this as I now have a capsule collection to start wearing

Child had Bon Maman which was great on jam days but proper despair on tea days!

I got one last advent calendar present yesterday, a pretty vintage Chinese cloisonné vase in blue & pink.

It hasn't been the best Christmas as I worked yesterday on a ward with some quite poorly patients that was badly organised and poorly stocked with supplies. I've got to work there again tomorrow.
Then my sister went down with a d&v virus in the afternoon so I was on my own yesterday evening while she was really ill, she'd been with my dad all day so we've had to cancel going to my aunties party today.
She's still sick today but for her the virus is a blessing in disguise as she needed an excuse for a good few days in her flat resting on her own really.

At least my cat had fun as my sister bought her some really strong catnip toys!!
