General “waifs and strays” beauty advent calendar opening thread

As in previous years, this a thread for those opening Beauty Advent Calendars not covered by specific calendar opening threads (though also happy for contents of those to be shared here too).

As previously, it will also be fun to hear about other calendar openings - food, jam, socks anyone?

Please do not include spoilers before 7am on the relevant day. Please also avoid dropping hints or spoilers about future contents if you have opened the calendar in advance.

I’ll be opening the Vogue and Selfridges calendars this year. Really looking forward to Day 1.

My sister's calendar day 7 - pretty Accessorize hair scrunchies, the smaller kind that I prefer (I have to wear a bun at work).

@bigdecisionstomake I would use the oil either as a body moisturiser or massage oil.

Theraffarian · 07/12/2023 08:51

I worked out why my degustabox was totally different to everyone else’s , every item ( bottles , jars etc ) are upside down , so I guess my outer packaging was the wrong way round when it was filled 🤦🏻‍♀️ . I’ve not read the thread since about day 4 when I realised there was something not quite right , so no idea if anyone else has an upside down version or if we are just the special ones 🤣

bigdecisionstomake · 07/12/2023 09:15

@Summerdew and @SwordBilledHummingbird that sounds like a good idea, I'll give that a go - my lovely dry menopausal skin needs all the moisturising it can get. Not sure what DP will think of the massage idea though....😂

I also remember a PP saying you could put rosemary essential oil on a cotton pad on a warm radiator so I might give that a go too with the AA oil.

@Dogsitterwoes I like today's tights 🙂

Peridot1 · 07/12/2023 09:35

@bigdecisionstomake - I’m the same with the Aromatherapy Associates bath and shower oils. Not keen on using in the shower and rarely have baths. Also don’t want to have to clean an oily bath! Quite like the idea of using as a body oil after a shower.

@Dogsitterwoes - I think I’m a little bit disappointed in today’s tights after yesterday!

Still enjoying my jam calendar. Cassis today.

Growlybear83 · 07/12/2023 09:56

I had a lovely wood sage and sea salt hand cream in Jo Malone this morning and a little night cream in Lumene.

Dailymash · 07/12/2023 10:06

@AprilLady I love that eye mask! I wear one
every night, especially helpful during the summer to get a good deep sleep. It would make a lovely gift for someone in its drawer if you’re not reusing the calendar?

Make up brushes in todays LF calendar which I will definitely use, but a bit like getting groceries for Christmas. Nice because you use them every day but not exciting.

Mirrormeback · 07/12/2023 10:12

Pirate tights bloody hell it's just one weird pair after another

You haven't had a single wearable pair yet

Some nice winter or autumn colours or sparkly Christmas ones or wool ones

SwordBilledHummingbird · 07/12/2023 10:15

I've missed a few days so here's what I've had from Diptique:

Day 5: 10ml Fleur de Peau perfume
Day 6: Tree decorations.
Day 7: Coton votive.

I quite like the perfume even though it's not my usual kind of scent and I'm really pleased with the candle. Not at all fussed about the tree decorations though, not sure whether to keep them or give them away.

jay55 · 07/12/2023 10:49

@bigdecisionstomake I'm terrible and save slippery bath stuff for baths in hotels.

Ha ha, genius idea - I may save it for that 😂

OchonAgusOchonOh · 07/12/2023 14:02

Eye shadow stick today in boots Premium. Love the colour but it is quite thick so I will probably put on with a thinish brush as a liner.

@TragicMuse I feel your pain. DH got me a Moomin tea advent calendar. It's really cute but the tea is minging. Also a third of it is black which I don't drink and a third is rooibos which I don't like.

Degusta DOD today with some taco salsa thing.

Lancôme today is another L’absolu Rouge mini lipstick. Bit boring, similar lipsticks on subsequent days. No7 Ultimate is a full size Future Renew Night Cream which I’m pleased with.

@AppleDumplingWithCustard I like the No7 creams

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 07/12/2023 16:50

@Stokey I'm not a rooibos tea fan either until a recent trip to South Africa when it was served chilled with lemon slices, it was really nice as a cold drink, quite different from when I've tried hot at home. Worth giving a try with your spare calendar teabags.

I was going to reply to @Stokey but I see you already did.

Definitely hang on to any tea bags you aren't too sure of and make iced tea with them in the summer.

I'm in SA so Rooibos is really popular here. Also try it black like normal tea and put a slice of lemon in it. It is a bit of an acquired taste though but I actually prefer it to normal tea tbh.

I quite like today's tights @Dogsitterwoes. I'm not that into pirates arf but they seem a more subtle colour compared to the rest.

@lookingforMolly. So do I. I’ve used them for years.

Dee1224 · 07/12/2023 23:05

Ooh @Dogsitterwoes - I actually quite like those, (unless I have been desensitised!)

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 08/12/2023 07:36

Today in Lancôme is an eye make-up remover which I have used before and like. Then a DOD from No7 Ultimate, a make-up brush. A disappointment if it’s the only item in the drawer.

Lip glaze today in no7 lift & luminate. Not sure about the colour but I will give it a try

AprilLady · 08/12/2023 07:46

Day 8

Vogue: Full size Barbara Sturm eye cream. Look forward to trying it.

Selfridges: Hair by Sam McKnight Shampoo and Conditioner, travel size. Always happy to try different shampoos and conditioners, and these are reasonable travel sizes, so another good drawer from Selfridges.

Today’s items are exactly why I like the luxury advent calendars - products of a type you use all the time, but rather more lux versions than you would ever pay RRP for, so they feel like a treat (even if, in reality, they don’t turn out to do much more than the normal stuff).

I have the same thing with the AA oil, got one almost full from last year and a small one from earlier this month so watching with interest for other options to use it up.
I'm really like both Next and LF this year, lots of things that I'll use and some new things to try, this morning's vanilla perfume isn't ideal but only because it's not my favourite scent. Also loving the tights and gutted I didn't realise there was a calendar as I wear Snag all the time and would actually use the my little pony ones!!!!

I love AA bath oil, I sleep so well whenever I use it! It’s the thing that tempts me to get a calendar (I haven’t got one this year though).

loving the MLP tights 😄I wouldn’t be able to pull those off and I need to leave the house for the school run.
