Does anyone own them ? Are they super warm etc Myself and my husband are thinking of buying one each however I’m concerned about the animal rights etc am I right in thinking they’ve stopped selling real fur .
Im really unsure about it on that side of things but If they are changing their ways it’s a good thing.
We both have never had decent coats apart from I have a joules charlington and that is nice and I enjoy wearing it . we both feel the cold a lot so wondering if these coats are good.
We are thinking of investing in a good coat such as these as they have a lifelong warranty and seems better than keep throwing away £50-150 on coats every few years that don’t keep us warm or dry . The lastest joules one is nice so it may just be him that buys one I’m still thinking it over . Thank you

I have a long North Face and really like it.

pepperaunt · 13/11/2023 20:51

But then I mostly wear it when visiting family in a very cold city

ThePoshUns · 13/11/2023 21:01

Coat choice of drug dealers around here

Fedupwitheveryone · 13/11/2023 21:08

yep, teen drug dealers coat in South London too. They need to be warm as they are outside a lot :-)

BoohooWoohoo · 13/11/2023 21:16

Agree that they are coats worn by criminal types here. Also avoid Moncler

GlitteringUnicorn · 13/11/2023 21:29

Woolrich far classier!

Cantbeardarknights · 13/11/2023 21:34

Have a look at Mackage and Moose Knuckle. Both premium Canadian brands but less ubiquitous and very very warm

I laughed a bit too much at this.....

FrenchandSaunders · 14/11/2023 11:45

Dodgy folk wearing those around here (South London). Not all, but a lot.

Unless you're living in the Canadian Rockies or similar I really don't think that sort of coat is needed (in the UK!).

Perfectlystill · 14/11/2023 20:44

Moncler = Russian gangsters in London.

It’s nice to know they’re sensibly dressed.

I have seem ol’ Vlad in Moncler gear before now.m

Lothcat · 15/11/2023 04:57

Looked at moncler and I apologise if anyone likes the stuff there but to me I was getting shiny bin bags vibes.

I am sorry still looking I may try didriksons as like one on there.

A little known brand I can't rate highly enough is Wellensteyn. I've had one for years and years, it's the most comfortable yet absolutely weatherproof thing I've ever owned. Putting it on is like giving yourself a giant bear hug, it's exceptionally warm and cosy with superb quality and detail. I don't live in a cold enough climate to get a lot of use out of it, but I do stop to pat it occasionally Grin

Yeah they are the coat of choice of drug dealers and general scumbags in my country. Definitely not something I would consider ever wearing.

Agreed, in my city only a certain type of person wears these, fake or otherwise, along with their Stone Island jumpers.

edited to add, actually it’s their dads that wear the SI jumpers!

Smurfmurf · 15/11/2023 06:07

There are loads of Canada Goose around my area however, they are fake and from Saramart or DH Gate. I think you’d be better with some of the other recommendations given.

MRSMTO · 15/11/2023 06:40

I love outdoor winter coats and have loads!

My favourite for warmth is Rab - if you're near Alfreton, their factory and factory shop is there and they sell lots of stuff for a lot less than you'd get in a normal shop.

I really like Salomon coats.

I like Napapijri coats also because I like how they look when dressed casually.

I have tried both Moncler (I wear their polo shirts all the time!) and CG and they just don't feel great to wear

sandgrown · 15/11/2023 06:54

My son bought one without fur about 5 years ago . It was expensive but he has worn it every Winter. The dry cleaning costs are extortionate though

Showmethemoneyyy · 13/11/2023 12:41

They’re definitely not waterproof either, for the most part, water resistant at best.

I’ve got one from a few years ago, and it’s certainly warm, but think there are plenty of other brands now which can easily compete.

They are lovely and warm ... Better left on a goose though (im not the moral police...i owned a down jacket but after thinking about it, i had to get rid). Youll have to have it dry cleaned...i had mine done every year..so the £250 outlay isnt just the only price youll pay x

Yes mine used cost 40 quid dry clean every springx

HerMammy · 15/11/2023 07:48

No need to buy down coats, plenty better alternatives to the abuse of animals for your winter coat.

OP if you properly look at the ranges of Moncler, you will see that the better stuff they sell is very much understated, this is my coat below. You certainly wouldn’t know what brand it is, logo isn’t visible. It isnt shouting anything, it isnt shiny either! All CG is in your face branding for sure.

It's interesting how fashion evolves. Personally I wouldn't want to look like a roadman or a Russian gangster but hey! It was the same with the backsides hanging out of jeans stemming from prison life. As with many things you have kids wanting to emulate those who usually get these things for free.
