Does anyone own them ? Are they super warm etc Myself and my husband are thinking of buying one each however I’m concerned about the animal rights etc am I right in thinking they’ve stopped selling real fur .
Im really unsure about it on that side of things but If they are changing their ways it’s a good thing.
We both have never had decent coats apart from I have a joules charlington and that is nice and I enjoy wearing it . we both feel the cold a lot so wondering if these coats are good.
We are thinking of investing in a good coat such as these as they have a lifelong warranty and seems better than keep throwing away £50-150 on coats every few years that don’t keep us warm or dry . The lastest joules one is nice so it may just be him that buys one I’m still thinking it over . Thank you

This is totally off track, but are there CG stores in the uk?. If there are & decide to go for one you should definitely purchase from them directly. I was in Vancouver a couple of weeks back with some friends & we made an appointment at the CG store. We were literally there half the day. It's beautiful the art the refreshments the service. Buying a jacket there is quite the experience!. ( way outta my budget).

Because all 66° North products are the same right?

With a tindur women's fleece jacket you are warned to buy 2 sizes bigger.

With the Dyngja coats you're advised to size down.

It really depends on the item as the sizes vary wildly. There are sizing guides and advice on every product on the website in this regard.

You knew that right? 🙄

You said 66 North was tiny. I said MY parka was true to size. Yes, I'm aware that different styles of clothing fit differently. Thanks though.

mathanxiety · 13/11/2023 15:33

Unless you live in the far north of Scotland you do not need a coat like CG in the UK.

I live in a place that gets properly cold winters and even here I don't see people muffled to the nines in CG.

The only people wearing them are people obsessed by fashion above all else.

Last winter, people were stealing CG coats at gunpoint.

baileybrosbuildingandloan · 13/11/2023 15:35

They have only talked about stopping using fur...

Snoken · 13/11/2023 15:37

I agree @mathanxiety . I live in Sweden and we frequently have -20 or lower during the winter and even then I wouldn't need a coat like that. In the UK where you don't get many days per year when it's below zero I don't see when you could use them.

Didrikson that has been mentioned upthread is a Swedish brand and they are made for Nordic winter weather so should be more than warm enough for the UK.

whiteshutters · 13/11/2023 15:43

I have a Didrikson and didn't wear it last winter as it has to be really cold for it!

Lothcat · 13/11/2023 16:13

I’ve looked at didriksons as suggested found a couple I like but then I looked on trustpilot and many reviews saying the coats are not waterproof etc . Bad reviews basically.

DupontsYellowDressingGown · 13/11/2023 16:33

Strange about the reviews, not my experience at all. I've had 2 Didrikson's coats, husband also has one and if you check their website you can see the levels of warmth, waterproofing etc. I have no complaints for mine, gets used daily for dog walking for 6 months of the year, watching sport outdoors, hikes etc. They are also a favourite on here for good reason.

I make sure to re-waterproof them with nikwax or whatever as needed though.

I find CG are worn here by the road men with credit cards. Very well made I imagine but don't like the real fur aspect to them plus I think the majority of people wearing them in the UK wouldn't be seen dead in them in 5-10 years time when another label is more fashionable.

They are rapidly becoming the uniform of the offender unfortunately.

Really?

anotherpyjamaday · 13/11/2023 16:47

They're the winter uniform of chavs and roadmen around here!

Chipsahoyagain · 13/11/2023 16:47

I bought a Moncler recently. Super warm and seemed water resistant enough. I would rather that than a Canada goose if you are going to spend that amount.

DGPP · 13/11/2023 16:48

North Face arctic parka does the job

Jumbojem · 13/11/2023 16:56

Makes me chuckle when you see folks in their soggy down coats during the British winter. They are generally unsuited to wet, the feathers clump. You need a waterproof layer on top of a down coat (or even it's non feather alternative), either as part of the coat or maybe preferably an additional layer. I have a Merrell insulated waterproof coat. It's not glam but it does a job for a reasonable price.

ChilliPB · 13/11/2023 17:26

I always recommend Elvine on these threads.

https://www.elvineclothing.com/

They have different temperature ratings for their coats so you can choose one for what you need (they’re a Scandi brand so do coats for Scandi winters but you can get one for less cold winters too).

They don’t use down in their coats, so much more ethical than the likes of CG. And they do have waterproof/water resistant coats.

I had one and the cuffs of the sleeves became tatty quite quickly - not ideal given how expensive it was. Also now everyone seems to have fake Canada Gooses.

caffelattetogo · 13/11/2023 18:13

CG has become associated with gangster types and wannabe naughty boys and girls round here (although theirs maybe fake, I don't know).
Didrikson coats are great, and very much waterproof, with properly taped seams.

Arcticlife · 13/11/2023 18:51

I have several parkas (where we live it's been -20 degrees today!), one is a Canada Goose one that is great, but I actually much prefer my Fjallraven parka, they make one with wool inside and fake fur hood (it's the Singi model with the wool that's my fave) pretty sure Fjallraven is a bit cheaper than Canada Goose as well, but they're seriously great quality (it's a Swedish company).

Very very popular here and loads of used ones on the second hand market and all of mine have lasted for years with very rough use.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 13/11/2023 19:03

If you are in the market check out better alternatives to CG, which imho are Moncler, Herno, Woolrich,Mackage.
I personally wouldnt go down the Holland cooper route because i am not convinced of their quality, but then they are in a much cheaper price bracket than the aforementioned. However, i think if you were going that route there are far better cheaper options than HC.

I have a Didriksons, it's properly waterproof. It's also well designed in that the cuffs can be tightened over gloves and the hood zips up to keep the lower part of my face warm.

I agree with those saying you don't want a massive padded coat unless you spend a lot of time standing around but not hiking etc outdoors in northern UK as they're far warmer than needed.

If you're looking for an expensive coat, you'll get a lot more use out of one that is waterproof but not padded as you just put layers on underneath when it's colder.

This

I have a down coat and I wear it maybe ten days a year. They are just not suited to British weather conditions, it's far too damp.

If I needed to spend £1000 on a down jacket I'd buy PHD. I wouldn't be seen dead in CG or Moncler

Yeah they are the coat of choice of drug dealers and general scumbags in my country. Definitely not something I would consider ever wearing.

crostini · 13/11/2023 19:28

I thought it was more zavveti Canada that was the 'chav/roadman/crim' vibe... the branding is similar. I happen to like both in terms of style, but I am a bit of a roadman tbh

Owl55 · 13/11/2023 19:39

Locally lots of teenagers wear them! Madly expensive and appeal to the label fiends !🤷‍♂️

Showmethemoneyyy · 13/11/2023 20:37

Lothcat · 13/11/2023 12:43

Yes I’m definitely going to look at other brands so please give your recommendations

Aritzia and Woolrich would be the first two that spring to mind in a similar premium vein..
