Husband called my new slippers 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

I brought some new slippers recently - nice sheepskin ones from John Lewis which I thought looked nice.

I wore them yesterday evening after a hot bath. My husband looked at them, laughed, and in a semi-joking way said they should be called 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

Could anyone recommend some comfy slippers that look like they could be shoes, and cover the whole foot (so not ballet pumps)?

These are the slippers I was wearing: https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-sheepskin-cropped-slipper-boots-light-grey/p110970563?size=3&s_ppc=2dx92700078342469774_brand_mixed_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=CjwKCAjw15eqBhBZEiwAbDomEq9KvjXLORj9mTAJxXNnTZXnnoku3kAj4oSrHkGtNOHWGnWqXz3ZHBoCFdcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Clearly my husband finds them very unsexy.

Would be interested to know people's thoughts on wearing slippers generally.

These ones are lovely to wear, when manage ti get them back from my 5 year old for a bit! Grin Very soft and warm.

Gymnopedie · 04/11/2023 16:10

OP You shouldn't have to but Google 'celebrities in Uggs' and show him the results.

Then find images of hot men and suggest that he's rather let himself go. (I'd do a link but my phone doesn't want to play.)

He should see my dressing gown of doom Grin

Well your husband is right. You need to look pretty for him to ensure you keep his interest - I would personally take a long hard look at your wardrobe if this is the standard you go for

Haha yes, because if it’s only her slippers putting him off she needs to make sure the rest of her wardrobe does too - like a pest repellent.

viques · 04/11/2023 16:13

I think if you were Cate Blanchett you could get away with them, but she wouldn’t be seen dead in them, though who knows, she is a woman with a mind of her own, so she might!

I would carry on wearing them, they look comfortable and cosy. Just demand lots of cups of tea from him and make sure you do deep groans when you stand up. And remind him that sex is completely off the agenda now you don’t have to make the effort any more.

JMSA · 04/11/2023 16:14

And for those who'd like a budget friendly sheepskin slipper, I have heard very good things about the Next ones.

@SwirlyShirly your DH's slippers do look like little sleeping bags - very cosy 😂

My husband also said, half joking, 'you wouldn't have worn those in our first few months of dating'. I think I would have done if I had them....

His mum once mentioned to me that her husband (dh's dad) didn't like her wearing slippers round the house because they're not smart. Kinda sad that she's never had the pleasure of pulling on a fluffy pair of slippers after a long day? Maybe I'll buy her some like mine for Christmas....

Wow, depressing that he says that to her.

your DH comment wouldn't impress me.

skechers do trainer slipper things but I imagine you'll think they're too old.

I typed in sexy slippers for @Candathon mother of god 😂😂

Oh my God!!!

They’re Ugg copies, very popular style at the moment with the trendy young folk😀

Exactly this!

OP, the way your husband responded I was expecting these or something similar... Not that I would be judging even then, each to their own!

I don't think you need to change a thing really. Yes we can all look a little more dowdy or older than our time than might flatter us, and we can all have a little laugh and joke when our partners do, but if it's a serious issue for him I think he needs to give his head a wobble! My partner has some definite old man loafer style slippers. I just have a laugh and carry on, why shouldn't he want warm, comfy feet! 😂

Like someone above already said they are a rip off of Ugg mini ultras.
Really popular last year with young influencers on tiktok/youtube.
Gigi Hadid and the likes of her were rocking them so I don't understand the "old aunt" comments.
I really like them!

Excuse me DH can I just take a pic of your slippers from some random women on Mnet?

Haha your DH is great (did he do a big sigh?) and did Dcat try to get into the picture too??

As for slippers! There is no such thing as a sexy slipper!

JaneJeffer · 04/11/2023 16:19

God he sounds like a pain in the arse

Fingeronthebutton · 04/11/2023 16:19

You obviously don’t live in Leigh on Sea. Lots of lovely beautiful young women wearing them, with the same lounging bottoms.

Do you wear slippers all the time in winter when you're in the house? To those who sometimes work from home, do you wear them then too?

Mine are so comfy I could easily wear them all the time..... I would take them off if we have guests though - would others?!

Absolutely would NOT take my slippers off for guests! Actually take them with me when visiting friends too Blush

I wear mine ALL THE TIME. All through the winter (and a lot of the summer as we have a stone floor in the kitchen), when WFH, when we have guests.

I love my slippers Grin

GettingSickOfYourNonsense · 04/11/2023 16:21

Those slippers are really ugly. I'm 64 and wouldn't wear them. But, if you like them, sod what anyone else thinks

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 04/11/2023 16:21

Has he been to hospital to have the toe surgically removed from his arse yet?
Tell the cheeky fond that my very attractive, trendy mid twenties daughter and all her friends wear the ugg version. And have lovely warm feet.

BardRelic · 04/11/2023 16:22

Personally I think they look godawful but since you like them and you bought them, I would just ignore your husband.

I wear some things that I suspect my DP thinks look unsexy. But that's OK, because I don't wear them when we're having sex.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 04/11/2023 16:22

What does he think slippers are for? Looking alluring? Hmm Personally I find pretty slippers a lot more frumpy than chunky ones.

Darhon · 04/11/2023 16:23

Also got a teen who has similar - big on tiktok

BlueEyedPeanut · 04/11/2023 16:23

I don't think slippers are supposed to be sexy. Quite the opposite really. I don't like them. I did fall for the viral hype of Cloud Slides though. They're not very warm, but they are very comfortable.

TiredCatLady · 04/11/2023 16:23

My OH complained about my suitably boring slippers… so I took to wearing fluffy lined crocs instead. Which he hated even more 🤣.

I suggested he treat me to a pair of Rab hut boots so I could channel “Chalet Chic” instead… they’re wonderful.
