I have an event at work soon, it’s an all-day general leadership meeting with around 50-100 people in attendance. I’m not sure how many will attend. In my chain of command, only the big boss might go, who I’ve never met in person. The rest of the attendees are people I have never come across before but could network with. So I was thinking to go for something professional but different to be memorable/stand out.

therefore what do you think of a suit tailored like this but in this colour?

I haven’t found an exact suit I like yet but just wanted to see if I’m on the right track or if I should just wear something else?

If you want to stand out, then I would definitely stick to smart and professional, but I'd avoid the browns and blacks that's 99% will be wearing.

Pooooochi · 02/11/2023 10:29

Do people in your industry still wear suits? In mine they did as recently as 5 years ago but i went to an event like this recently and it was vastly more casual.

Is brown in for aw23?

I work at a major premium fashion brand so the office is full of seriously well dressed folk (not me) and haven't noticed a lot of brown at all

DuchessOfSausage · 02/11/2023 11:05

Allegedly. The oversized shoulder look is in.
Brown was 'the new black' in about 1995.

Sorry but I am older and I would never wear that . I like the knitted slip jumpers wide trousers and trainers much more .

Sureaseggs44 · 02/11/2023 12:56

I like the Reis one as well but I think you need a nice contrast colour such as mustard for top and bag ?

BotterMon · 02/11/2023 13:57

Not pooh brown! The Reiss one is lovely and looks really well tailored. You could pop in a contrasting coloured blouse to stand out.

Maisielu · 03/11/2023 00:10

Very smart!

NutellaNut · 03/11/2023 06:33

The Reiss one you first posted looks miles better and suitable than any of the alternatives suggested by other posters. I don’t think you can go far wrong with it for a senior management/ corporate/ government event. It’s not a trendy fashion/ marketing party or an edgy dot com do!

SmallestInTheClass · 03/11/2023 08:20

The first suit is lovely and is just enough to be different from the boring black that the staff will be wearing. It's classic but not old fashioned. I'm in a similar industry where suits are rarely worn day to day, but won't look out of place at this kind of event. I'd definitely go trousers rather than a skirt/dress as it's easier to blend in with those more casually dressed (I'd rather be in a trouser suit when all my colleagues are in jeans, than in a statement dress). I think if you are one of the most senior, it is usual to dress one level more formally than the other attendees (a bit like an interview, always go one step more formal than the normal workwear for the place).

DD1963 · 03/11/2023 11:41

Totally agree with the post about a suit being too much. I go to a lot of high profile meetings and nobody wears suits anymore. I always wear black skinny style smart jeans/jeggings with trendy boots for edge, plain smart black top and a smart blazer, works for me every time and you can always jazz it up with jewellery/accessories, good luck.

zeibesaffron · 03/11/2023 14:46

sorry posted on the wrong feed 😀

FlipFlop1987 · 04/11/2023 16:22

Could you wear a fairly plain but well fitting pair of slim black trousers but then a blazer in a completely different material/colour as a contrast. Something that pops against the black trousers.
