Is this outfit work appropriate

I have an event at work soon, it’s an all-day general leadership meeting with around 50-100 people in attendance. I’m not sure how many will attend. In my chain of command, only the big boss might go, who I’ve never met in person. The rest of the attendees are people I have never come across before but could network with. So I was thinking to go for something professional but different to be memorable/stand out.

therefore what do you think of a suit tailored like this but in this colour?

I haven’t found an exact suit I like yet but just wanted to see if I’m on the right track or if I should just wear something else?

@PegasusReturns hey I’m happy with midi dress suggestions too, what style would you have in mind? I don’t tend to wear longer dresses often, mainly outside of work. I have loads of blazers/boots at home though…

I wore a cobalt blue jumpsuit to a similar event.

I’d avoid a brown suit unless it’s excellent quality and fits immaculately. Otherwise you run the risk of looking like shit. Literally and figuratively.

If I wanted to stand out and there’s no need to be corporate I’d wear a fitted midi dress; boots and a blazer. But last time I suggested a blazer and dress it started a bun fight, so I guess it’s horses for courses 🤷‍♀️

I love a blazer (especially > a suit jacket) in pretty much all circumstances so I'll back you up on this suggestion!

khlomoney · 28/10/2023 20:23

I love jumpsuits too, so many options!🤯

I would wear a dress. The Reiss suit is nice but very dull and corporate. You could get a nice autumnal dress for half the price of that Reiss suit.

How about something like this? Style with some heels rather than the sliders that the model is wearing. It's understated but with great hair and make up would work in my organisation for this sort of event.

The OP isn't going for an interview.

I feel like there might be some AI bots on this thread

khlomoney · 28/10/2023 20:43

ahhhh thanks, longer dresses are a tricky one as I’m petite - sometimes the proportions are off. I could do with trying things on in person but the high street near me isn’t great!

Definitely don’t want anything revealing, I’m 27 and think I’d give the wrong impression. Don’t want them thinking I’m a “party girl” or not taking the event seriously

The brown suit really reminds me of the one main character wears on Fisk. If you haven't seen it, it's a brilliant Australian comedy about lawyer who specialises in wills and probate (enough said)

If you wear this you’ll look like you can’t afford Winter clothes …

FaintlyInglorious · 28/10/2023 20:53

I think it's lovely and completely appropriate, but definitely the first, cropped trousers and not the longer flared ones.

FelicityFlops · 28/10/2023 21:05

If it suits your colouring, you can never go wrong with navy. Jazz it up with a silk shirt.

Agreed. Why are posters suggesting the sort of outfit you might wear to an evening reception after a work conference?

cunningartificer · 28/10/2023 21:42

Reiss suit with beautiful jewel colour blouse and great shoes would be stand out and you could wear it again.,,

Mountaindhew · 28/10/2023 21:44

Civil service event = m&s trousers and a blouse for most people attending. I wouldn't be surprised if you see a few jeans and trainers.

I'd honestly just wear the clothes I would normally wear to work but ones that are for smarter days.

RockGirl · 28/10/2023 21:51

Please don't wear a brown suit, I cannot think of anything more ghastly. I bet you would look amazing in any number of items.

I'd go for a midi dress.
